I'm glad there are still bear in Japan. Firecrackers are a peaceful deterrent. Everybody safe & happy! The bear are simply hungry and curious. It's great you were able to sleep in the camper with the two otters! I love Aty, Ui and Mr Cat!💕😚🐱
I'll never tire of watching Aty run across a field of clovers like that! It's so beautiful and he looks spectacular with how gracefully he gallops/trots across the greens with mountains and more greenery in the background. He definitely can run fast and was like, "Come on, Slowpoke Otterman!"
Wow, the adventures of Captain Aty and friends! I think it is just lovely how you all have been able to preserve and enjoy nature without destroying it. My deep respect to all of you there.
It's so cool that you take your otters on so many outdoor adventures! I bet Aty & Ui are the happiest pet otters in all of Japan! Thanks for letting us see all the beautiful areas of Japan . I hope I can see it in person some day.
I always love Aty's vocalizations! He was so obviously saying, "Daddy, run with me!" Yes it was good that sweet baby Ui was asleep in the car when that bear showed up in the distance. Aty was on alert but Ui would probably have freaked out. Bears are one of a river otter's few natural predators.
Aty’s little chirps and careful pace with yours lets us know that Aty knows you are hurting and he stays with as your loyal companion. Aw. So cute and sweet! God made all creatures so unique!❤❤❤

I have had wild bears very close to me and I think you all did the right things to stay safe :)I am happy to see you had a safe place to sleep and I think as long as Aty and Ui are with you they will sleep well :)
I just discovered Aty about a week ago and now can't stop watching. Every time I see one of the videos, I get the happy tunes that play stuck in my head for hours, sometimes days.😂🎶 The music is always such a perfect fit to Ui and Aty's adventures.

Aty and Toi certainly picked up on the bear's presence. Glad you were able to take shelter. What a wonder of accommodation. That's a 5-star camp (plus the thousands that light up your beautiful country, Captain Aty). Aty e Toi certamente captaram a presença do urso. Please be careful when you camp. Poor little Aty was frightened of the bear. I really believe that he was crying to alert you of danger. Bless his little heart, Aty is such an intelligent little guy! Aty sure could sense there was something out in those trees, I think that possibly was why he was whining to you Otterman. I think Aty sensed there was immediate danger, he seemed really on alert. I am really glad you saw the bear and decided to get into the motorhome for more safety. I worked in Northern Wisconsin U.S.A and I walked head into a black bear one time. We were so close we could have touched each other. I did exactly what I should NOT have done, I got frightened and ran, and you never run from a bear, stand still and scream as loud as you can. But it worked out well for me, because luckily the bear started to run the opposite way. I am glad you all left the area safely. Take care, big hugs to all ❤🌲🐾❤🐾🌲🌟🐻🌲🐻
It looks like Otterman’s shoulder is the safest and the most reliable place for Aty… I’m glad that the bear was not interested in what the camper looked like… 😅 Thank you for sharing this story!🤗
I think Aty has sensed the bear when you are running on the fields. He was like, "what are you doing so slow?! RUNNNNNNNN" "DUN STOP THERE. COME WITH ME" LOL glad you guys are safe
That’s a really nice camper. It’s nice that you were able to spend the night in it to keep you safe from the bear. Aty is smart to be on alert and on your shoulder when you saw the bear. I wonder what Ui would have done if she saw the bear. Otterman, I hope your ankle heals soon so you can do more activities with Aty and Ui. I’m sure they miss swimming and running around with you.
yeah black bears are unlikely to attack when you are not alone and seems aware of it's presence..also these black bears are smaller than the average adult males, brown bears though are a different story.
@@lyhthegreat you should never, ever take someone's word that a certain species of an animal predator is "usually pretty docile". always treat them like predators.
Aty papa ankle hasn't healed yet. Now Omichan's toe broke😞. Hope you two get better soon so that Aty, Ui and Toi can go out to play,take papa and Omichan💕🌳🍀🐾
*That* was challenging. I'm glad that everyone got away from the bear safely! Aty handled the experience well, and I'm glad that Ui was, as far as we know, never directly aware of the bear's presence. I'm not a bear-hater, but they're very large, powerful omnivores. I wouldn't want any of those people, either otter, or little Toy dog to become a bear's dinner! (We've actually had a couple of episodes of bears preying on people in the Western U.S. this year.) Safe and happy camping, you guys!
Aty sensed the danger on the walk back to the camper - that's why he immediately became anxious. Animals are much more intuitive than we are. Bless little Aty's heart - he loves his Dad so much!
Aty`s hopping and jumping through the grass was just adorable and how he kept turning around and waiting for Otterman, too cute. Looks like Aty is also famous in the animal kingdom, I can understand that Baloo the bear wanted to see him up close. And honestly, that tree he was sitting on looked really comfortable ;-)
It is a beautiful place to run through the green grass. Aty loves it! I see the bear, Aty sees it. Aty is uneasy. The bear was probably looking for food. Sweet to see Aty and, Ui go for one last walk.🦦❤🦦
I live in the mountain areas of North Georgia in the southern United States....lots of Black Bears!!!! So glad you took safety precautions as the Black Bear in the wild will win.
🍃 Your black bear was taking a nice nap in his favourite tree!!! Probably smart you cleaned up camp from all food etc bears are smart and always looking for easy feed. Good idea to all sleep in the camper (nice by the way) especially with Aty and Ui. I remember on one canoe trip I was guiding with a group from Japan in the back country. We always do a food hang to prevent animals from raiding the kitchen so to speak. One night we had a smaller black bear find his way to the food hang trying to get at it. Before I knew it everyone was out of their tents making so much noice along with camera flashes going off that poor bear raced out of our campsite into the river and swam away never to be seen again! Great memories for all on the trip! Bears are an amazing animal and just as smart as otters especially when it comes to food. I am happy all of you had a great experience on your adventure!!! Roxy Lee, Hello...It was a wonderful adventure that particular one anyways. Grills well it is best to keep them really clean after each use to remove all food odours. I would use a grill scrapper then general soap and water to clean the grill that really is the simplest. When I use it again I spray a coconut oil on the grill so the food doesn't stick to much then it's easier to clean. In my experience the key is to always keep all food tools clean after use that way you will keep the wild animals from visiting. Hope this answers your question. 🍃
@@carmmk6630 thanks, good to know that a wash up should be enough. Of course, some campgrounds have a grill provided that usually is quite dirty. Ugh. Guess one just should not use that public grill, and sleep as far away from it as possible.
Roxy Lee, glad I can confirm what you intuitively know. Sometimes you have to adapt to the location you are visiting. If you can bring your own grill that helps, but do your best with the ones provided if that is your only option. You got the right idea! Have fun on your camping adventures!
@@roxyiconoclast Something that is amazing to use for cleaning grills is (wash) soda. Not only does it help clean by reducing the amount of necessary physical force and labour, but it also is absolutely food safe, animal safe, environmentally friendly, cheap - and last but not least, it removes odours. Use a spray bottle, pour in water and wash soda in the right amounts, shake well, and then spray away on the grill (or the oven, or in case of a pet having had an accident, on that spot of carpet or blanket), let it soak for a while, and then, using more of the soda solution, start scrubbing the grill. You'll be amazed at how easy grease, that really dark, gritty, blackened to nearly coal type of grease can be removed without having to scrub your fingers down to the bone. After you've finished, you'll have a new looking and smelling grill, and should be quite safe from attracting bears. Only make sure that where you clean isn't anywhere near your camper, tent or such, some grease might still smell like the grilled goods it dripped out of, and if you pour your washing up water onto the ground due to lack of proper housing with plumbing and other such comforts, it can take a while for it all to trickle away.

I can relate because we were camping at Yellowstone National Park when late at night, Park Rangers came by announcing that a bear was spotted in the campsite. I had JUST come back from going to the ladie’s bathroom house where the bear had been seen. No more bathroom breaks for me! ❤️👻
It seems Aty sensed that the bear was close by and kept checking otterman whether he's following him or not as they were getting closer to the tent, not because he's hungry. Animal usually have higher/sharper instinct than human. Aaaanyway that's just what I think. I'm no expert 😅 Also love the fact that on their last walk, Ui kept sticking to Aty as if he is her assurance in unfamiliar environment 💕💕💕 8:55 I'm so proud of you Aty!!😘😘😘

Oh right. You're in Japan. Japanese camping seems so much more… _refined_ …than American camping. Granted I'm part of a culture where "You're on your own" should be the national motto. I've _never_ heard of any parks known for bears using fireworks to scare them off. And honestly, that black bear was just chillin' in a tree. They could have just let it be, acting only if it started to move into the meadow, which it never did. Culture thing?
@@naidamar1 Indeed, and Otterman is very sad about that. He went on a pilgrimage with Aty to the spot of the last confirmed sighting of a Japanese River Otter, in southern Shikoku. I still think Otterman may be a reincarnation of the extinct _Nihonkawauso_ even if he doesn't know it.
@@naidamar1 That is truly heartbreaking. Otters are having a tough time in pacific northwest in USA also. Here in Maine we take bears seriously, but not as serious as the campsite in Japan. Bears at campsites is a pretty common occurrence. Best to keep your distance either way!!!
The Japanese black bear is a subspecies of the Asian black bear that lives on three main islands of Japan: Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu. There are said to be 10,000 black bears in Japan. The population of black bears on Shikoku and Kyushu may be endangered or extinct. Wikipedia
Looking for more info, Wikipedia had an article on the larger Ussuri brown bear that lives on Hokkaido. It occasionally kills black bears and humans, reportedly. The article says that, while it is not the same species as the grizzly bear, it is one of the world’s largest brown bears. 😳
Amongst all of the campsite that Aty has gone too this is one of my favorite. Even though there's a wild bear there. 😂 I was juuuust a teensy bit worried that the Captain might challenge the bear or something. Jokes aside, im glad nothing bad happens.🤗
Absolutely in love with your fur babies ❤️. Just a suggestion, if you're having trouble with your ankle still, good, supportive footwear (definitely not Crocs) will help. In fact, Crocs and flip flops etc can make it worse. Just can't wait to see you running with aty!! 💖
I think the issue is more that he still has metal screws and bolts in his ankle that need to be taken out first. He's said in a video before that it's hard for him to wear shoes because his foot and ankle swell up
It's Japan, I assume they're very responsible with how they handle such situations. They have a deep respect for their environment, including its wildlife. 🙇
The bear certainly came vecause he felt that best boy in the world had come to meet him and support him.. so who wouldn't hang out with such a little soul 🤗 Aty, heart, bravely , smart...Angel little💙
