I think that the man had a car accident but somewhere along the way he realized that he had passed away and now is wandering in the afterlife ,more so, when he encountered the ghost that is his wife. The last part of his criticizing her physical appearance and her cooking was a loving jab at his wife for pranking him. Like some couples would especially if both of you have a sense of humor ♥️ This is just my interpretation. It's such a sweet story of a couple's unwavering loyalty and undying love for one another.

Well, you couldn't really classify this as a horror story. But it certainly is supernatural.
