they've never shared a bed (overnight) before now! in the show, it's not clear whether charlie's dad's comment about sleepovers was just referring to the group sleepover they had just had, or if he had stayed over previously. in the comics, sleepovers are never shown but when nick does eventually stay over, there's a spare mattress on charlie's floor. so them sharing a bed in paris was definitely a big deal for them!!
What is up with people forgetting the art teacher’s name? He’s in the first season, Mr. (Nathan) Ajayi. At the vending machine, Mr. Ajayi was fishing when he said he’d snuck off with a boy when he was Nick’s and Charlie’s age. Mr. Ajayi’s gaydar was on high alert lol.
Charlies answer to harrys apology was way longer in the graphic novel, but shifted to another storyline next episode, which is more fitting overall for the series (does this sentence make sense in english?)
Harry’s apology was pretty half-assed, he was smiling the whole time and it seemed like he expected to just say his piece and be let into the party. tbh even if it was an excellent apology he wouldn’t be entitled to an invite, Tara didn’t want him there! Harry also bullied Tao and Elle, but he doesn’t seem to remember or care to apologize to them… I don’t know if Nick and Charlie have had one on one sleepovers before? Charlie’s dad might have just known they’d had a friend group sleepover the night before Charlie told him they were dating. Either way, a sleepover at home with their parents is very different from a sleepover alone in a hotel room. Mr. Farouk contains multitudes!
I completely agree about Harry. When he first started talking I got hopeful. But it was clear to me his apology was insincere and he just wanted the alcohol they had.
The big friends sleepover with Imogen was their first one, so this is the first time they've shared a bed or been alone all night. As for the teachers, every person I know and reactor I've watched just fell in love with them!

I like how Harry asks to come in he knocks he attempts an apology even though it’s half assed but Ben he sneaks in he makes things super uncomfortable and he is hiding. Harry may have been denied entry but I think that helps him, he clearly acknowledges he’s homophobic but taking steps to be better.
You may not have noticed something that I thought was quite implied. When Nick's father asked Nick in an awkwardly way about graduation ending. I don't know about the laws in the UK but generally alimony or child support is supposed to end when the child turns 18, which coincides with the end of High School. I am sure that his father is still paying quite a sum in child support. Having a new family may add a $ hefty responsibility (and who knows...inconvenience?). And your comment in your previous episode about the length of the episode seeming to be and hour long TV show. Well...a regular hour TV show is around the amount of time these episodes are. You forget that TV in general, except Public TV, have long commercials. Shows we generally watch on TV are this long. 😊 Thanks for covering this wonderful show. Love your commentary! ❤
I’m so happy that you feel so much for Isaac, for someone who is the same as him it really does feel so confusing because you feel so broken because everyone else seems to understand and feel things you don’t, and especially since relationships are such a big part of life and it’s always talked about in a way that seems like a thing that everyone has experienced or want, it feels like you are missing out on something huge in your life even if that’s not something that you want. I’m so glad that even though it’s small, that they are exploring this with Isaac in this season because it’s not as talked about and represented in media. It’s understandable but I saw a lot of reactors not notice or understand Isaacs behaviour since it’s subtle and they get so excited about Isaac being with James and squealing at the kiss, and they get so confused at isaacs reaction and I get it but that kind of accidentally confirms how Isaac probably feels, because everyone gets so happy about it and they are like ‘he deserves happiness and to kiss someone as well!’ When that does misinterpret his reactions and feelings because he feels like he should want that but he doesn’t, and that’s not the definition of happiness
Tbf, his name isn’t mentioned much in Season 1 either. I keep reminding myself that watching the show and keeping names straight is a whole other beast when you haven’t react a graphic novel when the author writes people’s names with an arrow pointing toward them if we haven’t seen them in a while lol (Sorry if I’m wrong in assuming you’ve read the books, but that seems to be the divide in my experience)
@queerlyvictorian I did read the books... but tbf it's probably because i watched season 1 like 100 times... that might be why. I think I just feel a way because Mr Ajayi was such a rock for Charlie that it's unfair that everyone is forgetting him.

I’m glad they shifted some of the baggage in the book from Harry to Ben. Harry always struck me as an immature, ignorant 15/16 year old, but not necessarily on the same level of destructive as Ben. As we know (if you’ve read ‘Nick and Charlie’) Harry transforms into a slightly older obnoxious, but generally harmless, kid.
I wish there were places I know of that had just like heartstopper conversation groups, because I want to advocate about the whole forgive-Harry agenda. Not that Charlie necessarily needs to forgive Harry, but everyone in the audience of heartstopper, specifically those at least 25 years old. Can we look back and really interpret the reasons we are holding Harry's past actions against him in the face of evolving change? Can ppl genuinely say that every insignificant thing that we barely remember about being 16 was not incredibly hurtful to somebody; one who may still to this day remember it's as bullying? 0% of my forgive-Harry focus points revolve around Harry not being an asshole. Being an ass-whole is something that we can accept and work with in the overall picture of Harry. but I also don't think that should be his sole defining feature.
And for all graphic novel ppl, I feel like you should definitely interpret it from the point of knowledge you are when that confrontation happens. you cannot use information that Charlie wouldn't have had yet in defining why Harry has to be seen as a villain right now.
Stephane lost me the second he reached out to shake Nick’s hand instead of hugging him. I cannot stand men like this. If someone is so insecure about their manhood that they shake hands instead of hugging his own child, he is a damn clown.
i think i am the only person who really likes Ben this season. i think because last season he was mean to Charlie in private and public and denying his sexuality to himself and you can tell this season he is really going through it internally, but he is all alone and doesn't have anyone to support him or help him figure himself out. him admitting last episode that he actually likes/liked Charlie when he spent all last season denying it just shows how much he has been working on himself and figuring out who he is. and i feel so incredibly bad for him. it doesnt excuse anything he has done to Charlie but i can see his internal struggle and his extreme hatred for himself which i can relate to. i wish he had just one person to support him but because the only people who know about him are Nick and Charlie (and now Imogen), they are all people who he has hurt and who now (rightfully so) dont want to help him out. he didnt realize until after he lost Charlie how much he actually did like him and you can see now at the party how sad he is and he just keeps looking at Nick and Charlie together and you can just FEEL him wishing he could have that. breaks my heart!
you have so much valid points but still miss the point that no matter how privately or publicly mean ben was he was still mean to charlie and it still affected him. ben has a right to his struggles but him lashing out to people won't actually make people want to be nice to him. he pushed charlie away, who was literally the one person he could count on to keep his secret and understand him. so yeah you have valid points but that really doesn't make likeable especially to an SA victim like me. good for you tho.
He doesn’t actually like Charlie. He would have to know him to like him, which he never allowed. He likes the idea of Charlie. And even though he is struggling, he has not realized what he did that was wrong. He blames it on Nick in the last episode, which just shows that he has learned nothing. He can’t expect to “get help” without acknowledging what he did that was wrong. And you can’t expect people to care or want to help you when you treat everyone like crap.
@@ipurpleu1668 and sometimes people learn as they go along... not everyone comes to this world fully formed. I'm a believer in forgiveness and redemption and giving people the opportunity to grow. I don't know if your comment was aimed at me or the original poster but I don't think either of us ever excused Ben's behaviour. At all. We just stated that our hearts break for him. Because sometimes people aren't bad... sometimes people just do shitty things because of what they have dealt with in life. And I don't want to get more into it... coz I don't wanna spoil anything. Even though I'm sure most people have seen the whole season by now... But I imagine that both myself and OP are looking ahead.
@@dablackangel I definitely agree with you, but I don't think that necessarily aligns with Ben's characters. People can react to their environments, that's how people work. Reacting to your environment would make sense for internalized homophobia, wanting to keep a relationship a secret, maybe not being the nicest to people. But that's not what Ben did. SA'ing someone, gaslighting them, abusing them, is a choice, not a reaction. Ben CHOOSE to do those things, nothing about his home life MADE him abuse Charlie. At the end of the day, we all have a choice on how to act, and Ben choose to be cruel.
