I think the strongest aspect of the show it's the acting and chemistry between the main characters, the plot has its issues but they delivered a solid performance and worked so well both as a couple and with the individual drama. Kudos to Harriet and Damian!
Spot on. It really could have been a cringey romance series, but they’re all really great actors. Everyone delivers, especially these last two episodes. I’m also glad Ruby isn’t a a doormat And like you said their chemistry is insane. Can’t wait for season 2, although I wish they would scrap the teacher-student romance storyline
Just so you know, they're at Oxford for interviews as part of the application process, so they are not officially in yet. Maxton is one of "the" schools in the country, so their students probably get ranked a little higher than those from other schools towards the first round of eliminations which lands you the interview but not necessarily admission. That's part of why a lot of these kids here for interviews are from Maxton. The other part is that they are from wealthy, powerful families and some are legacies (their parents are Oxford alumni), so some of them are all but guaranteed entry so long as they show up and don't do anything stupid. That's why James blowing off the interview is the only way he has to all but ensure that he doesn't have to go to Oxford. They may give grace on this, given the death of his mother during the interview process, but it was a real statement of intent from him to change his trajectory from the plan his father made for him.
As someone from Germany, nudity is seen and handled very differently here than in the US or even UK. It isn't that big of a deal and seen more as something natural. We have nude beaches, you usually have to be naked in the sauna and there are some public pools now (especially outdoor ones) who allow women to be topless. And the media at least paretially represents that. I think it's healthier to not overly sexualize our bodies and just see them as they are. No hate, just an explanation why it might be surprising for Americans. Edit: they are already filming season 2 :)
I think in the US, we are fine with nudity and watching nudity, just not in public or amongst friends. We just get embarrassed, not sure why. 😂 It's just our culture to not be naked in public or expose our private areas in public. And I have never been to a naked beach although that would be interesting 😂
I really did grow to enjoy the show I was sceptical about James at the beginning but I liked his growth through the show I can’t wait to see how the show progresses in season 2
It‘s always funny to see US Americans see European sex scenes 😅 since they aren’t as explicit. Violence verging on splatter- no problem but skin… nah 😂 Glad you saw it in German- the English dubbing really made it look like a Tele-novella. It stripped the acting of all it‘s nuances. I've been obsessed with this show and it's been interesting watching guys watch it and your reactions. I've swooned at so many scenes and the tiniest expressions James makes. When James went after his dad at the end a thought came into my mind that something worse was about to go down. That one of them was going to accidentally kill the other one.
They kept season 1 pretty accurate to the book, but changed a few details that made sense to change for the show. For example, they intensified the enemies part of the relationship way more than in the book and I loved how they leaned into that. They cut out a scene from the very end of book 1 and left it out of the show, so I'm guessing they're leaving that for the beginning of season 2. I'll just say it's not cute and I don't know how they will play it out in the show. But book 2 is mostly about James and Lydia dealing with their grief, Lydia dealing with pregnancy and the relationship between Ruby and James ... Well I'm not gonna spoil anything haha. Can't wait for season 2!

There are whole sections of the book left out and I wonder if it will get tackled in series 2 since book 2 is mainly set up for book 3 and it feels like a tall ask to convert the second book into the same fast paced scenario. Maybe they will only do 2 series and take book 2 and 3 together which would make for awesome viewing on the other hand injecting the leftover info from book 1 into series two would also make for good viewing. I first listened to the books and then decided to buy them. I just finished book 1 in German so I don't know what the translations are like. I really loved it couldn't put it down. X
New viewer to the channel here and totally loved your commentary on this series which I loved despite myself and went into with low expectations. As usual you didn't disappoint. @@TK-oq9yf yes. I found the second one a little harder to get through although it starts and ends strong, I found the middle part a bit more tedious. On the other hand there is a lot to explore about the characters that we don't yet know so we'll. In particular the members of James' friends group. (Only read the original German version so can't speak on what the translations are like)
Ya’ll were on one today😂😂 had me dying I just watched My Lady Jane on Prime and I recommend it too. Alternate universe historical fiction fantasy dramedy of Jane Grey also based on a book. So great and great chemistry!
It's shocking sometimes the way Zuff says something and then it happens in what you're watching. This time was pretty predictable though. It was obvious that Jude was about to sit down.

The series is based on the three books “Save Me,” “Save You,” and “Save Us” by Mona Kasten, featuring Ruby Bell, James Beaufort, and also Lydia as the main characters. The first season covers the first book and sticks closely to the plot. The following seasons are expected to do the same. The second season will cover the second book. Filming has been going on for a few weeks now, so hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long. A third season will hopefully adapt the third book. The story of James and Ruby stays exciting, and their relationship is complicated by James’ messy family history and other unresolved plotlines from the first season, adding more drama and turbulence.
