Re: challenges, in 2020 I tried so many "do this every day for seven days" challenges and immediately gave up after one day every single time because the sheer volume of reps they programmed would leave me so sore I couldn't move the next day 🙃

on building a sustainable routine, i'll share something that worked for me as an *autistic* person: start ridiculously small after a natural break in your routine. for me, that was after brushing my teeth in the morning but before getting any work done. i just did one squat or one push up (on my knees or even against the wall). sometimes i did more, but i did at least that 3x a week. eventually that evolved into me stretching every morning and practicing calisthenics. still a long way to go to get to my goals but i like how my body became stronger and more flexible :)

Im 55. I've been in perimenopause for 5 flippin' years. I've put on 30 pounds. I'm exhausted, have insomnia and brain fog, and my anxiety is often through the roof. But my workouts are helping. My strength, endurance, and flexibility are slowly returning. I'm starting to sleep better. This morning I looked at my chubby stomach and I wasn't ashamed or disgusted at myself. I was accepting. Because I'm 55 and perimenopausal, and I'm not going to look the way I did at 25. But I can be healthier and look better, and I'm working on it. And your videos have been a big help. Thank you.

Awesome video! In a recent meeting with my Coach, we discussed why am I training the way I am and just because influencers say a certain exercise is “essential” if it is causing me pain then don’t do it.

Appreciate this today!! I got on a more sustainable fitness routine at the end of last year, I’ve since lost 25lbs and am very happy with my size. However, I began this journey with one number in mind. I keep coming within 3 lbs of it and then I fluctuate back up and down. I’ve been here for about 5 months. I am happy in every other arena of my fitness, it’s just these few lbs I want to lose. Maybe I need to give up number goal and focus on the other great things!!

Thank you! This is so timely for me. I was thinking about my goals this week and trying to figure out how to make realistic, achievable goals that I would know when I met them. I’ve had this weight goal in my head…does it still make sense for me at this age and stage of life? What are some “non-scale victories” that make more sense? Appreciate you breaking this down and helping me ask different questions.

Ugh, I love your videos so much! I really want to do more as far as the gym, but my disabilities really limit me. After a long setback and gaining ~40 lbs it's been a real struggle. I have arthritis and my joints hurt, so of course it would help to lose weight. But that's really hard to do when everything hurts. It's a vicious cycle lol. Joints hurt, need to lose weight, can't exercise because joints hurt, ad nauseum. I haven't been able to find any kind of trainer in Houston that knows how to work with my limitations. But your videos give me hope!

This video is a healthy does of realism (and a nice antidote to the usual quick-fix promises). Congrats by the way for getting name checked in Josh Brett's AG1 video (1min 22 if you're interested). You are getting noticed by some pretty big hitters! 👍

What would you recommend for people who know generally they want to get more fit to be able to better do functional life things (e.g. play with kids on the ground, be able to run to catch a bus, hike on uneven terrain), but they don't what skill(s) that actually looks like focusing on in the gym?
@JustinaErcole
@JustinaErcole 29 дней назад
Following any well rounded strength program is a solid start! So making sure you’re getting all the basics: squat, hinge, lunge, rotate, push, pull.

I started calisthenics a year ago at age 44, I did inverted rows on the ladder of the lake I swam. I worked up to 10 pull ups with Pavel's Fighter Pull Up Program in 3 or 4 months. Usually calisthenics books have bad/unrealistically high standards (e.g. 3x20 jackknife pull ups in Convict Conditioning). Maybe later I'll do some weighted pull ups, but currently I'm not really interested as the lake is still warm here. I don't want to do the harder variations either (e.g. one arm pull up). My next goal is the front lever swing as one guy in the park does sets of 6.

This was really helpful from a client's point of view! Question: I'd like to get help from a personal trainer but mostly they way I see my nutritionist: about once a month to talk overall goals, progress and strategies. I don't think I need week to week support, would a PT be willing to work like that with a client? Is that typical?
@JustinaErcole
@JustinaErcole 28 дней назад
Oh 100% I know plenty of coaches who write programs for people and then do a quick check-in once a month.

Great video:) I have a question: I used to be a little bit overweight according to BMI, then a few years ago I lost some weight (13kg) and have been at a normal BMI ever since. But I started to do regular strength training 15 months ago(I train with Caroline Girvan 3-4 times/week) and now my weight is going up, approaching overweight again. I suspect the weight I've gained is at least partly muscle, beacuse my measurments haven't changed and I've got some visible muscle in the upper body. But I'm still getting anxious about my weight, there is type 2 diabetes and heart problems running in my family, so being overweight is bad. What to do, fat loss goal next? I'm 28 years old.
@JustinaErcole
@JustinaErcole 28 дней назад
Hey! If you're concerned, you can always check with your doctor and/or do a body scan to see your composition. I wouldn't recommend taking specific advice like this from anyone on the internet (including me!) before seeing what's going on internally :)

Would you recommend creatine for women? I work a part time job at Chick-fil-A. It can be a very tiring job, and I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a day. Do you think creatine would help me with energy and strength goals?
@JustinaErcole
@JustinaErcole 27 дней назад
I can’t prescribe or recommend supplements since I’m a trainer. Creatine definitely has some benefits for strength and muscle gains, but you need to be suuuuper consistent with it and hydrate a lot.
