We Need to Carry What? | Fr. Kirby Homily 

I would have been a better person if I knew Fr. Kirby all my life. Thank God I found him and can hopefully make up for it.

Father Kirby, I started watching your homilies pretty recently. When I heard you asking the parishioners all of the parts and how many books there were in the Bible, I was like ,I don’t know that! I only know the Old Testament and the New Testament and Matthew ,Mark, Luke and John wrote the gospels. And I went to Catholic School from 1st through 12thGrade, from the 60’s through the early seventies. Unfortunately, we did not get much Bible study. We did get to learn about Jesus teachings, the parables , the Baltimore Catechism and the commandments. In high school the religion class taught us about Jesus Christ Superstar , by a lay teacher, which I found offensive. I have rerun the beginning of your homilies several times each time, so that can learn the parts of the Bible and the number of books ; and today , what they are in the New Testament. I learned so many things from you today, that I did not know , such as that Capernaum becomes the Lord’s home with Peter, after Nazareth. You teach us history, the meaning of the gospels and the reasons why Jesus did or said what he said. I have always had trouble picking up the Bible to read the Word of God as we are supposed to every day, because I don’t understand what I am reading. So I wasn’t doing it. I so appreciate how you teach us what we should be doing , while explaining the gospel and how God’s Word is the Living Word for today, so needed. The way that you teach , is so relatable and humorous at times, but also very serious about the message that you are giving us. I am among those people that are always asking God for help to fix everything. But I try to end with Thy Will be done, even though in the back of my thoughts I still think, I hope God fixes or cures this. 😊. Sometimes I offer up my physical pain or anxiety attacks to God , for the conversion of sinners, or for the reparation of sins.But still I’m like , I hope this goes AWAY though! The way you talked about being a servant and of service to others in the name of God in our life and how we must carry our cross, made things more clear to me. Yes, I used to think, why did Jesus HAVE to die on the cross, it was such a terrible thing that I couldn’t think about His Passion. But you help us to understand. I thank you Father Kirby for being a true shepherd and giving your service to God’s people, the body of Christ. I will be watching and learning. God Bless You.

This is the first time I heard Fr. Kirby, in this fashion, a sermon. I read the Bible every morning before I begin my day. This is the first time I truly can understand and follow what I am reading every day! Where may I listen to more sermons with Fr. Kirby? Previously, I listened to him in "Morning Offering." I am just amazed at Fr Kirby’s homilies. He is a great teacher his congregation follows , responds and participates in a manner that I never seen before. God blessed them all 🤍

This is FASCINATING! I was reading my missel b4 mass an I could not find the book of wisdom! Also thanks to that Holy Spirit I found it in a separate book collection an it’s called Wisdom of Solomon! This is so cool
