Extra point: major weapon of Law is slide and WS from neutral. It is not so easy to do it reliably and what most important: fast. This may be the reason why in higher ranks main weapons of Law are not useful...
I gotta say, Law seems really strong in my experience, but I feel like the Law players let him down. Around Tekken King rank, I find they still spam d2,3 and such.
beacuse its tekken 8 . literaly bot can be tekken king . i have people in my steam friend list, that played tekken 7 for 10 years , and never got above mighty ruler , when tekken 8 cameout , they became fujin in 10 days
Law NEEDS slide, the entire gameplan is based around enforcing the existence of slide & its mixups. He doesn’t have enough NH launchers, so his slide needs to be high reward.
Picked up Law because of his character design, and that was it. No looking back. I struggle through matches as though Im Sisyphus, but no one actually told me to roll that boulder up the hill. In fact everyone that walks up the hill just tells me to walk around the boulder before continuing on themselves I am way to stubborn for my own good and get in the way of my own progress. Law has not carried me anywhere. Instead I am dragging him behind me to each match.
Important video, law players have to be a bit more vocal sometimes about these things because the echo chambers on reddit/twitter can get really annoying. Im pretty sure it was TMM who first talked about how "super brain dead easy" law is and everyone keeps parroting it without realizing that literally every character got dumbed down and that laws gameplan is a bit complicated and he still has dss timings to worry about. Also about dragon tail being the worst move, i actually think they gutted jacks debugger even harder now, jacks debugger used to be i24 but it's i29 now and just like dragon tail doesn't get the benefits of a snake edge, however u at least have to consciously use debugger and cant missinput it like dragontail.
Yeah with main man hes a tekken g.o.d level player so he has to be careful what he says. Just bc its piss easy for him doesnt mean that represents the majority of the player base
law's dragon tail , is never meant to be thrown from neutral , its only for wall splat , when ur opponent is a bit far away , to do regular 4,3 dss3 wallender . So you do junkyard , with dragon tail ender.

I usually hate playing against law, and I am a law hater in general, but I agree with everything you said. As you mentioned, law is a scrub killer, and this game has a lot of them. This actually applies to every character that reddit cries about, except dragunov and jin.
People hate fighting Law because he was given a lot of gimmicky stuff that reduces how interesting it is to fight him. No one uses Banana Peel, Poison Arrow, etc. 99% of people reduce Law to: - 1,1,1 - Slide - Nunchucks - Throw launcher - Power crush kick And it's effective, to blue ranks. It turns the Law match into "Did you guess the 50/50 right?" much more than a lot of other characters, which is unfun. That's not entirely "Law's fault", because people are choosing to play him that way. But we could then say this about Dragunov's 4 moves that make up 90% of his fights, Jin's 5 moves, etc etc. Compare with characters that most people are okay with fighting... they tend to be characters who can't rely on a handful of moves. Bryan, Steve, Lee, etc. As for Dragon Tail... Rising Sun is still the worst move in the game (and I'm not a Kazuya main, ew). The full 4 hits anyway. Dragon Tail is really bad, but what could be worse than Rising Sun? It's a legacy move that was made because it looked really cool back in the day, and it's useless in modern Tekken.
Correction I use banana peel It’s good for a lot of set ups that a lot of. Other Law players don’t use I mean I am a tech in emperor now and it is not easy with law. We have no low launcher.
@@ultimit_taijutso you have a launching throw, that's even better than a launching low, for several reasons: - Many launching lows tornado, so you can't get a full combo - A launching low blocked is itself launched. When you break a launching throw you both just return to neutral - Launching lows have 20 to 30+ frames of start up
Manual DSS into blue spark moves exist, which can also be chained in combos for even more execution, Law haters: "Law is easy, DSS is easy, no skill is needed."
Law is dope. People can say what they want. Every character has their weaknesses. They wanna roast law but forget about how broken alisa or dragunov are….
People always talking about us law players we literally had the same move set for years. It’s not our fault that you guys defense stinks. Honestly I’m tired of it everybody gets a launcher off of heat smash even if they’re clipped but yet with law all we get is a knockdown but it’s all good. That’s what makes us players so strong we know how to get in and out of if y’all haven’t look me up.
I think law is just hated at low level to intermediate level because he’s quite strong at those levels. Once you reach high level play that hate drops off because people know how to face him. There are a few characters that are like this as well.
Its so funny that fighting game players don't understand that high win rate and low pick rate go together, if you've ever played any hero shooters (not Concord, obviously) / MOBAs you'll know this is true, but even then its just basic knowledge surely. It honestly hurts my brain that people can't figure this out. I haven't played much since I was at VSFighting (for some reason I ended up in the mens room with Double multiple times lmao) but I fear Law is going to be nerfed in the next patch thanks to all the unfounded discourse around him since Double won that tournament. I fear it'll be difficult to get back into the game if he does get nerfed too much, especially at a time where the game feels due a balance patch. The only thing r/tekken ever gets right is hating on the terrible matchmaking system. People on Reddit approach Tekken 8 like its a hyper competitive first person shooter, reading all the salt on there makes me want to get a lobotomy.

I'm new to tekken and I think I hate law players more than the character law. Law is really good but the players aren't. So when I see them struggle on Law I just think they're braindead people. Lol lots of them be mashing buttons from range 5 when I'm no where near them 😂
All these tier lists even from popular youtubers/streamers were so wrong when it comes to Law. Almost everyone said Law is S or A tier and an easy character but the overall negative winrate suggests that he is far from S tier and the fact that his winrate is about the same in low and high ranks suggests that he simply is not an easy character otherwise in low ranks his winrate should be significantly higher.
Good comment. Extra point: DSS is not guaranteed plus frames. For various reasons sometimes you have plus frame, sometime you do not. So DSS is possibility of getting better (although not incredible) frames. Easiest to compare him to Hwo - Hwo has always hit frames, Law may get it (and they are worse btw). There is a reason why we have just single really solid Law player at the top (Double) and one second league (not meaning he is weak - simply he is not top 10 i.e. Mangja).
Most people who hate Law are those who main characters at the bottom of the popularity list. They main characters that 98% of the player population have no interest in.
First of all, I’m not embarasssed to say that laws 1,1,1 heat engager shouldn’t be punished. Without it, he would just b a normal character !! The only reason why he’s solid in tekken 8 is because of the numbchuck addition they added to him . Other than that, there isn’t anything SPECIAL about him. Other characters have WAY better stuff going for them. Law was supposed to be a fast counter hit character but u no what? He doesn’t even have the most counter hit moves. I don’t even think his frame data’s as good as people make it sound. Bryan’s got way more counter moves.. Steve probably does too . Steve’s also got a lot a lot of fast moves that’re like frame 13….. Laws oki is average , maybe slightly above average but he’s not kazuya or any of the mishima players ! He’s not Bryan ! And people on Reddit and RU-vid love to make law sound like he’s plus on every move, no he’s not!! he’s minus on SO many of his moves. And also, law is HARD to rank up with . When I first started using law , I found out that people knew how to duck and punish his moves way earlier in the rank system than they did when I played.. let’s say.. Yoshi? Bruh, I didn’t meet people that legitimately knew the counter play to yoshi until I got to tekken king level in tekken 7 and they still sucked. Law on the other hand isn’t going to carry you like that. You have to learn how to play at a higher level pretty early with him compared to other characters so I’m not surprised people in orange ranks are struggling with him. He’s easy to use but HARD to win with and HARD to master . And he’s not a “free” character either. Other characters have more interesting things about that should be nerfed like their gaurd breaks or garunteed crouch grab set ups ! some characters. Can launch you from half way across the screen like LEO. Like noo nooooo. Laws perfectly fine the way he is and I’m not apologizing for my comment . He’s the definition of FAIR. Also, a lot of characters have hear engagers that allow them to punish moves. Most of them start at frame 14 though . Laws 1,1,1 is the only thing he’s got going for him. All his other moves that are amazing are punishable as fuck , even the numbchuck. Other characters that are hard to win with are Characters like asuka. My point is .. law and asuka are characters EVERYONE knows the match up for. If you don’t know the match up by now then hit the lab.

i dont truly hate him,but im definetly dont like playing against any type of law,im tekken emperor rank lili,i kinda know his strings,kinda know the punishes,never really took time to dedicate a lab session for him,but the amount of knowledge check he has is absolutely insane,unending strings,ws4 pressure strater,dickjab ch launcher (10f highcrush btw lets not sugarcoat this one) ,flips no longer launch on block,probably all lows are plus on hit,FC mix,yes all of this stuff is a risk to do,but its so aids to deal with ,you try being patient and not press into him and you lose your turn for quite some time,you get fc mixed,you try to take you turn and you get highcrush ch launched,its just really pain in the ass to deal with all that shit
Funny just yesterday TMM trash talked law because of DSS change that he’s super easy and I feel like it’s just not true tekken is more then DSS. Yeah I wanted to try law out but I love how lee took jeetkundo's methodology, "take everything that is useful, take out the useless, and make it your own" basically his own version of MMA
Might sound like an asshole thing to say but if you look jin (top 3 character) is also at the bottom for win rate. A lot of the players piloting these easy characters falter when they get to higher ranks simply because they lack the skill to compete due to cruising through the ranks with cheesy/ easy characters
Jin is in the same boat as law on many levels. He is very good, like law (although not top 3 imo) but he is super popular, everyone knows how to counter him, even though it isn’t necessarily easy. His movement is also shit, like laws. And like law his execution was dumbed down a lot, but he is still quite complex to master at higher level play.
Db3,3 is worse now in another way compared to old versions. The second hit was guaranteed against a grounded opponent at the wall if the first landed. Not anymore. So useless. And I scream constantly that Law needs a low launcher.
This is a really good logical assessment but let's not forget that majority sentiment (none of the people that actually go into the minutia of the game) boils down to the fact that they find law annoying mainly because of his screams, and they hate losing to a "not cool" character. Therefore, when he DOES get any buff people think "why does a JOKE character get these buffs? This guy's supposed to be cannon fodder!" I wonder when we'll start using mountain dew to water our crops..
@lambkin I have always said this about Law: Law is a valid mid tier character; I feel validated because you have stated everything about Law, the good and bad that I have argued over online for people talking shit about him. BUT one thing is damn sure, in the category of being the FUNNEST character to use, Law is SS Tier. There are no two ways about it!!! (Steve and Yoshi can fight for the 2nd and 3rd place). Hey I gotta say that I like Law a lot. I tried him a bit in previous games and I learned the slide trick with the analog sticks through your videos 😂. I don't use him in tournament because I find him not as dominant as my main. For me, his command of the neutral isn't quite as overwhelming as other characters. He still has to poke quite a lot for lower reward. I don't mind eating slides or db3 because of this. Choosing when to act after b4b cannot be understated too. How to threaten the FC timing correctly is tricky too. Kudos for sticking to him
I’d like to think I have an okay law which I could take to Fujin probably - but then is we how you use him and it’s a world of difference. And that’s where all this talk usually leads to imo, the players skill outweighs the characters strength necessarily

super easy execution, wich was never case before , law's full power was locked behind such a tricky and hard execution , now in 8 literaly no satisfaction pulling off combo , i have like 60 hours and i am Fujin already with , law i literaly uninstaled it and went back to 7

its because other heatsmashes dont actually give a combo, fengs and jins heatsmash dont do a hard wallbreak (as in it doesnt break walls that need two wallsplats to break, it will only do a hard wall break if that wall already had to endure a wallsplat). Just to correct you there. Law is a powerhouse poking character with oppressive frames and good strings. I do agree that his movement is ass, as a jin main i deal with a similar situation. Regardless you shouldnt let the negative talk get to you, you are a solid player and shouldnt be discouraged by anything others say about the character you happen to main. The tekken community tends to be extremely toxic, It is what it is.
Played Law since T4. He's never been easier to play and was never able to hang with the top tier, he's high mid tier. The only good low move he has is his slide but he's left vulnerable because it's not instant. Not the best launchers and most people know when the launching throw is coming and how to break it.
Coming from Josie in T7 I can't wait to get a muay thai character so I can stop playing Law - the lack of good lows is a real pain in the ass for me. The unnecessary hate and criticism is because his screams are quite annoying in my opinion.
i liked play law, cuz, WHooaaaaaaAA and scream with law when i win, i get nice vibes. the problem is, you need to win matches, and this part is diffucult of course.
I tottaly see all the points you're making and in the first place I dont think law is OP but Im a yoshi main I feel the matchup favours me. I wonder though where do you stand on the Yoshi outcry for nerfs, Id love to hear your take on it. Also based on the graphs you showed, I personally feel that most of the arguments you made for law apply for yoshi as well except the cheesy argument which yoshi has lots but its situational. But in the end of the day as you said this game has lots of scrubs and yoshi can definitely be a scrub killer too so since scrubs cry the loudest...
Yea a lot of the points in this video apply to yoshi as well. I don’t think he is hard to play in the way that there is little to no execution, but he is very complex as well. More than law, but less than t7 yoshi. He is in a weird dpot right now. I think his 1,1 is a problem and samurai cutter, but maybe that’s just because I’m used to play with law who has a shitty backdash do I can’t escape samurai cutter so easily 😆 There is some truth to the complaints about yoshi, but as a yoshi player myself I think that a lot of it is also exaggerated. Edit: I think flash is fine as it is btw and if they increase the health consumption on spin a little bit I think that’s fine too.

I think he’s just a scrub killer to be honest Like in any game you get some really annoyingly good characters in pubs but are not so good or more difficult in pro scene because of their 1 dimensional gameplay there’s not much else they can do outside of what they got (not saying law is 1d I don’t play him but you get my point). Simplistic characters r harder to win with the higher you go

It’s fake pressure, you can sidestep duck to potion select. Not saying that it’s necessarily easy to do, but there are clear counters to dss pressure. As reflected by the online winrates, it’s not at all brain dead or abuseable
@Lambkin-_- Yeah, definitely seems like laws DSS is a pretty normal stance then. Most stances have option selects which cover everything except 1 option.
I feel like we shouldnt complain about dragon tail to much cause who uses snake-edge like moves anyway in high level, even if we might miss input it and get killed by it. The negativity especially towards characters in this game is insane to me, i feel like if you have time to complain about those thinks, maybe go and just lab that char, cause in the end the player who is winning the match is the one who is better at the game and getting cheesed in a best of 2 just means u dont know the matchup well enough in my oppinion. The whole dragon tail rant was mostly because I don’t like that they removed his backturned d4, while every mine else got to keep their low launchers and ch launchers. And I hate dragon tail not because I want a snake edge, but because I don’t want to missinput dragon tail. I don’t think it’s true to say that the player who won the match is better at the game. You might be able to beat me. But if I can beat 80% of the people YOU can’t beat, then I’m better at the game. Technically. Getting cheesed doesn’t mean you don’t know the matchup. That’s the definition of cheese pretty much. A move or string or tool that is hard or impossible to deal with even if you know the matchup. You know that giant swing is a 1-break, and you know that shining wizard is a 1+2 break, but the fact that they have the same animation, so that you can’t react to it, making it a true 50/50 that’s cheesy. Just to give you one example
Disagree with lack of matchup knowledge being the cause of unpopular chapters having higher win rates….. their rates are higher because less scrubby players use them, and the contrary for the popular ones

So what is your point? At High level every char has to learn how to play the game cheese isnt working there as much for every char. thats not saying law is "difficult" to play. Its just that law players rely on cheese because they learn to play if they even learn it later than others for example if you play steve you get nothing for free you are forced to learn frames and movement etc really early to even climb the ranks. You have to learn how to deal with cheese very early, because the char has huge weaknesses and relys on timing also the punishment is very weak. Bryan also only has counterhits and damage for him her relies on timing aswell but he has to learn how to play the game very early. Law players, alisa players, Jin players rely on their cheese instead until they hit a wall most likely high blue ranks or gold ranks. And then they have to start learning the game or they dont and lose alot and keep doing their cheese. Its a double edged sword but it is the reason why the winrates of these characters are so bad. The amount of reina players spamming ff2 even in "high" levels is absurd. Or jins with scourge because it does so much for them. These players build bad habits and its then hard for them to remove these.
I don’t think King is OP and I never said he was, except for pre- patch 1.04 I think king is getting destroyed online, actually for many of the same reasons that Law is. His fundamental movement (backdash and sidestep) is really bad, which hurt him a lot. Just like law. And he is also very complicated to play at high level, just like law. I could replace the word “law” with “king” in many parts of this video I think, and it would still apply. But I am not a king specialist, so I’m not qualified to make that video. But king is absolutely cheesy.
Law has the third worse win rate because Law players dont really know how to play the game nor have fundamentals. Super easy super strong character. Their gameplan usually consist of "mash my opponent" which is why Law players average defense is 45. Law is a really good and really easy character held down by braindead players who only know how to mash which is why his win rate is low.
yes law is brain dead, yes he is s tier, good tracking, good mix, good combos broken ass nunchaku yes there are stronger characters than him but those are the broken tier, if they remove the nunchaku then we'll talk about him being "weak" stop lying
law and dvj are the ultimate mid level demons, both have really good cheese that works on mid level players but imediately fizzles out once they come across people that know the solution to the knowledge checks
And ye im completely fine with admitting that my hatred for law comes with a skill issue along with the fact that law players in asia servers are coonsistently the most obnoxious, toxic players ive come across in 400 hours through t7 and 8
@shaghilathar3588 i was refering to the innumerable flowcharts law has that his opponents need to know, even his flip have a bunch of knowledge checky elements with specific strings being safe, junkyard is also a really strong knowledge check, if the opponent doesnt understand to low parry the second low it becomss an insane mixup, he also has a pretty good grab game making sure that mid level players struggle.
Almost every character in the game is the same. If you are a good fundamental tekken player it automatically becomes harder to cheese you. But laws slide is really annoying. Especialy becuase of the guaranteed follow ups he gets on the ground. He shouldnt get those guaranteed follow ups.
@@Bosko_Ivkovic he gets that follow up after otjer knock downs as well. If it was only the slide then it would be fine. But to get it after almost every knockdown is just bad.
