We need your help. We’re starting a new 4-part series on the global energy crisis, but… we want to cover questions and topics that are interesting and relevant to YOU.
It could be questions ranging from: Why are our gas bills going up? What does Russia have to do with it? How does it impact different communities?
Or it could be topics that you’ve noticed around you: how it impacts a certain community in a different way, an inspiring innovation you’ve seen, or an unintended consequence it’s caused.
We want to hear it all. 💬 Comment below, 📩 DM us, or 📧 email us at stories@earthrise.studio.
If we choose your topic or question, we’ll make sure to give you a shoutout in the episode!

what can we ACTUALLY do to help. I know some small things add up but it feels like a grain of sand sometimes

When I was younger, I watched Finn and Jack on this channel when it was known as JacksGap. To see this channel being reinvented into a climate change advocacy project is amazing! It's so cool to see you guys doing the work you do for such an important crisis. I am currently taking a climate change course at the University of Maryland and will definitely be sharing these kinds of videos to my professor for module and assignment ideas!!!

I’d like to see an episode on divestment from fossil fuels by pension funds or governments. And reinvestment into clean energy

Would love to see a video about energy & finances. How can we prevent monopolies and rather transform to a decentralized, collective energy grid.

I would love to hear more information about what our current sustainable tech options for energy are and what’s new and upcoming? I think there is a huge misconception in the masses about how sustainable our current options actually are/are not and would love to hear more about how we can look forward to more sustainable energy options (where to fund, do more research, etc) without burning our current bridges/energy solutions that are in place that keeps the lights on for all (especially the poor)

Honestly would love to learn more about Jack’s journey into this field and how young people can similarly mobilize themselves in direct ways (eg. what programs, volunteering, & advocacy work is reputable and accessible) in order to make an ethical and impactful difference

I work in climate protection and the one thing that stands out to me is, that a lot of people do not understand how much they themselves can do to not only protect the planet but also protect their wallets. Now I cannot speak for all countries, but in Germany there is generous funding for insulation, installing clean heating and other measures improving energy efficiency. There is a tremendous need for informing the people that they too are eligible for these grants and for transparent calculations on how it saves you money in the long run. At the same time I see a need for more strongly communicating climate adaptation. Cause we need to be thinking ahead on this. If we are installing heat pumps now, we should see to install those that can function as cooling systems in the summer. We need to think about the cooling effects of facade greening etc. - prevented energy use is always better than green energy use. - none of this is a question, but maybe it can give you direction :)

acutally i have even more to say. I think that one thing a lot of people feel is powerlessness in the face of these massive systemic issues. I would love to see you highlight some creative solutions that can answer the question: how can we in our local communities tackle this issue? For instance, there are citizen run energy cooperatives (in Germany) where people can invest their money in green energy locally - which in the long run also improves the local economy. I've even heard of examples where the members started installing solar panels themselves (with the aid of professionals) to combat the skilled labour shortage.
@tomatenmagnet
@tomatenmagnet Год назад
one more thing: I am observing a trend where there more hydrogen is talked about as a solution, the more people seem to believe we will have solved the issue in a couple of years. There is this unfounded optimism that if we just install enough solar/wind - there will be hydrogen for all the natural gas based systems. That is just simply not the case. I am quite certain that all hydrogen will go to the industry and potentially clean alternatives to kerosine before any of us will get to see any. Not to speak about the much lower energy content of hydrogen. Yet, people are buying new natural gas based heating systems because they promise to be "hydrogen-ready". I want to see more incentives to explore other alternatives and a realistic conversation around hydrogen.

Coming from a developing island nation where the global climate emergency is a reality we observe every single day as our islands disappear and water conditions are changing so rapidly, we wonder how to support communities to truly, truly see the benefit in managing forest and reef resources for carbon offset / trade might result in economic benefit to the local land owners and rightful owners of the resources rather than succumbing to pressures like commercial logging? From a place where corrupt logging practice is so rife many communities don’t even have a chance to fight for their resource before it’s taken… the process to secure forests and reefs for global benefit has to become a real option before it is too late. It’s these island nations that suffer the most that may also be a huge part of the solution 🤷🏼‍♀️

Cool that you're crowdfunding the topics, some potential topics come to mind: 1) Monopoly of fossil fuels 2) Our addiction to energy: Can we close the tap? 3) Renewables: Potential vs actual, green washing, scalability and storage problem 4) Systematic solutions: Cultural and lifestyle changes to tackle the energy crisis, is that still possible or it's too late for our generation? Curious about the upcoming series!

I think an episode on how energy from natural resources is the basis of the world economy today would be great. Tracking back to the Industrial revolution and summary of how early industries were born from the use of water and steam, all the way forwards to present day where oil has been a key player in the development of our global economy.

A bit of a tangent but (from what I know), I'm kinda impressed with how energy companies have to predict energy demand and meet it at certain times of the day / seasons / etc. How accurate are they and are there anything about this current system that makes changing / updating this system difficult if we want to make it more efficient / climate friendly or otherwise? Thanks, and appreciate all your content!

From someone in the industry, I think it's really important to talk about why renewable generation (or nuclear) can't solve the crisis alone. You could talk about storage, demand flexibility, and other solutions which could help us transition to a decarbonised energy system.

I think one of the topics about global energy crisis that is underestimated is the connection between our current stuation and our food system. I would like to watch an episode in wich you tackle this topic. Many scientist said that one solution for many of our current environmental problems (like the global energy crisis) is switching to plant-based diet.

The same instructions as we have been given in Finland, i.e. lower the indoor heating of houses by two degrees, if you have a freezer, turn it off and unplug the power cord, and schedule laundry and cooking according to the price of electricity. It saves some energy and helps at least a little but the little is a still lot because the earth is running out of electricity due to overconsumption.

What can we do as consumers to reduce energy costs. Not home tricks so our bills are lower like turning off bulbs in unoccupied rooms but how we can affect the general cost of energy in our countries

My question would be the role (and the contribution) of geopolitical GAMES in global energy crisis. As a person from the terrorist state of Russia... Oil and gas craze is all over the internet, little to none renewable energy talks

I'm not sure if this it exactly what your requesting but we should be producing more energy using wind and wave power. Building dams often affect the habits of fish etc so they would would need to built in a place where wildlife aren't affected

How to get the legislation to enact laws against the climate crisis. I think you talk to a climate aware bubble here, we are doing our daily goods. But the system needs to implement legislations.

I'd like to hear some more complexity, beyond traditional narratives. In Bangladesh, the largest nuclear power plant in the region is being constructed through Russian financing, but will have a huge impact on a country that has been suffering from recent dangerous power outages. How do you balance these narratives?

Doesn’t energy come from thin air so can’t we create more? What can we folks at home do to prep for the crisis? Who is this going to affect the most? Where in cities does this need to be addressed? What solution is there for the authorities? How can we educated the people around us on this? What IS energy and why is the crisis happening?!?

This short video showed a lot of high tech capital investment at the expense of people, insulation, bicycles and moving your money ie divestment / reinvestment. While there is a place for large projects there is a strong case for that investment coming from government through bonds and being owned by the people and keeping, and reinvesting, profits back in public utilities.

Energy is being spent on commodity-creating industry instead of on basic human needs. The basic human needs should not be affected by other industries needing more energy. Let them spend money themselves on energy production.
