Hi! My name’s Conner, I’m the dev for this game! I really really appreciate you giving this a play! You and Sean are 2 of my absolute favorite RU-vidrs, and I’ve been binging your guys’ stuff while I develop these games! Seriously, thank you a ton, and just know that you’ve had a real impact on me and my process. I’ll always make sure to have a prerelease build sent your way :)!
So nice! You did a phenomenal job! I hope one day I can be a gamer like her and Sean because they’re also my favorite RU-vidrs. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Hi! My name’s Jenny, I cast and directed the VO in this game and voiced Dr. Miller! Really appreciate you checking out the game, Connor really put his heart and soul into this.
i saw the name pop up on the credits and i was like “am i thinking of the garret watts or is there another garret watts??” i’m so happy to see him voice acting!
I find the premise of this game fascinating. A game where you type things into a computer and an invisible person interacts with the world around you due to your computer interactions is pretty cool. However, like others here, I'm pretty confused by the ending. Who was the person hanging? Is it you, is it your friend? Wy did he have a big hole in his torso? That's not an axe wound. What is the meaning of the statement "You think to yourself...We Never Left." ? I'm not really clear what's being implied there.
Oh! i love the possibilities and you make a good point. was he doing it for himself or a friend of his past that he "needed to get rid of" cause everyone in his past needed to pay and he needed to move on? hmm🤔🤩
I've watched lots of Garret Watts and didn't recognise his voice! That's some great acting right there. Great game, can't play horror games, can only experience them through others & Gab is so thorough, I don't feel like I'm missing anything.
Totally agree, the voice acting in this was great! Tense atmosphere too that had me hooked. A pleasure to watch as always Gab. Thanks for all the enthusiasm, chill vibes and personality that you bring to your content and viewers. I salute you :D
Jonah Scott! Man this was awesome! He is such a great voice actor, he really sells the part of Michael losing his mind and becoming a serial killer. For those who may not know Jonah voiced Aiden from Dying Light 2 and he is the voice of Legoshi from Beastars! He is a phenomenal VA and will no doubt have a lot more incredible roles in the years to come. 🌞❤️
Omg thank you for this comment! I knew I recognized his voice from a video game I played, but I couldn't quite place it until you said Dying Light 2. He really does a great job at voice acting.
@@xxDemonLalamixx No problem, I figured it might help to list a couple roles he's done for people who might not be familiar with him but recognize his voice. Also, yes he does do a great job voice acting! 😊
aaa this was great! so, theory time, i have a few different ideas, one being that maybe he really didn't leave, he started killing and collecting bodies, and once he had enough he laid it all out and chained himself up in front of the game, the hole is less of a literal thing and more metaphorical that he was never able to truly fix the emptiness, or the feeling that something's missing. Then the aspect of us being his friend and going through it all was simply the friend finding his body and exploring the house. a more obscure theory could be that his friend died and he went mad, thinking that they were still alive. He played his own game pretending it was his friend, with the end result being to end his life. another possibility is that none of it happened and he was completley and totally delusional. A lot of people seem confused abt the hole, but i think it's more metaphorical than anything. it's possible he aquired a weapont that could create the hole, but it doesnt seem like it was a typical wound. i think it could potentially be a bunch of this mashed together, maybe his friend did die and he was delusional, thinking he was the friend, and that he had to chain the 'friend' up, to make sure they never leave, when in reality it was himself? again with the hole being a metaphor for the emptiness he never cured. the missing part he never found.
Idk how no one caught the slip up at 38:51 and whether it is intentional or not, it definitely foreshadowed what was to come with, "the laundry room is to my immediate right, behind me is the kitchen." It is so eerie how it goes from second to first person so fast and I feel like it really shows what Michael is thinking.
@@JaysunGodsent it switched from second person perspective to first person perspective. So the usual text-game narration "you do this..." changed to Michael narrating his own actions.
Honestly, everytime I hear Jonah voice act, I always think "Jonah Scott's voice acting is something that I never knew I needed in life". He's so amazing, everyone else did a great job as well!
I am curious. Does anything happen if you type "Kill Yourself" or "Use axe on yourself" into Michael's game? Also, I find it funny that every time our character gets up from the PC, Michael is probably like "Oh crap! He's getting up. Need to hide somewhere!"
That was cool! I would've liked just a bit more backstory to really solidify the "we never left" sentiment, like this was where they lived or visited as kids, maybe some memories of them making up games here.
I think it's a reference to the fact they used to make/draft choose your own adventure games together as kids. And those games were never 'finished' until the murder in-game ('finish the game' was the note on the door michael left). So the two of them never 'left' that time. And looking from michael's point of view, he's right. The protag played the game right all the way up to the end. Even though he could have made many different choices along the way, the protag decided to follow the path michael set out. A game can't be played without a gamer to play it, and a text adventure can't type in its own commands. It was a confirmation of Michael's thoughts and feelings -the protag is special, and would understand this was all art. It wasn't just the protag's murder Michael was excited about, but the fact that finally, someone validated him and his ideas. We don't get detailed information on what the protag is thinking of all this, but the fact he continues through the game does suggest a curiosity/fascination with what Michael's trying to do. Fear obviously comes in when he comes across the dead bodies, but instead of... most anything resembling a typical fear response, the protag pushes through. Two possibilities: "if I follow through with what Michael's asking me to do, he'll spare me" (make friends fear response) or "this is terrifying but...I want to know if I play through the end, will Michael kill me or not?" The latter being interested in the true feeling of horror. I'm not really interested in getting a definite answer on this-the horror lying in that ambiguity is what makes this game memorable and interesting.
@@vivil8005 Yeah, I get that. I would've just liked a little more detail than "oh yeah we used to make games together" like an anecdote or something idk. Just to really tie it together better.
Oh my gosh I was really itching for an indie horror and this one was so, so good. I love the text based element, sounds like I need to check out Stories Untold! Thanks for the video 👻✨
The whole atmosphere of the game was amazing and the story was good but I'm confused about what happened at the end there. Was the guy hanging up the friend you had been playing?
wow this was so cool.. most media don't really make me feel that much (lmao not me and michael twinning 😟) and this one really just made me feel so deeply unsettled and disturbed throughout the whole thing. the atmosphere and setting were so great too, i really loved the faint thunder and rain in the background. the voice acting was amazing, they really made me feel 10x as immersed in the game because they felt and sounded like real people. and the music was fire. such a cool game i wouldn't even have known about if gab didn't play this hehe (i have my daily routine and now i can almost not even drink my tea or coffee without watching gab play a game 😭). loved this video, thanks gab!! 💗
It’s RU-vidrs like you who can find the niche games and make me enjoy the content even if I won’t regularly play it. A notification from you always brightens up my day!
holy SHIT! When the lightning flashed and the man's silhouette was cast on the wall I got chills! What an awesome atmosphere and premise, I was hooked the whole time. Excellent video as always Gab
Loved this playthrough! The developer did a really good job at building tension and making the player feel like they were going to cause a jumpscare. Somehow, the lack of jumpscares made it even scarier. I do wish the ending made a little more sense though. This was great either way!
If you like fun text based or chose your ending horror games I definitely recommend The Letter. It was recently put on the switch and has a bunch of different endings for each character. Also my cousin Amber Lee Connors voices one of the characters haha
This was awesome! Hats off to the dev and rest of the crew! If you like games that jump between a computer screen and the game world you should definitely check out Welcome to the Game! It has some of the biggest jumpscares I have ever experienced in a horror game and the ambience is super intense!
M’lady, would you post a playthrough of Jenny LeClue: Detectivu soon? You’d love it, it’s based on Nancy Drew kinda, and is basically a cute mystery adventure game. It’s on Switch as well as PC and mobile etc. Lovely little indie that deserves more recognition, especially for art style!
Maybe I'm being stupid but I don't get what 'We never left means'. Who is we? Where did you not leave? I don't get why the guy thought it before killing his cousin
Very cool game. Gab, have you heard of The Devil Came Through Here trilogy by Harvester Games? It has Downfall, The Cat Lady, and Lorelai? You should definitely play those if you haven't, you would love them. They're point and click horror and absolutely amazing
Usually horror games don’t get me, but this one freaked me out so bad! 😰Home invasion is one of my worst fears and this came just ticks all the boxes. Super cool tho!! 👍
Oh I haven't been so unsettled by a horror story in a long time. Definitely should check out the other games in the collection if they're of similar quality!
Oh yay I'm so glad you found the Dread X collection!! I think you would like a LOT of the ones from 1 and 2! Plus, 2 has a sort of little hub world with other little puzzles too.
As someone with intrusive thoughts, I totally related with Michael there for a bit (minus the murdering people lol). But the whole "it's too dark and disturbing" thing? Yep, heard that a lot. Like no shit it's dark, you don't even know half of what's going on in my head. And then when I try to find healthy outlets to cope, I'm told those are bad too. There's just no winning with some people🤷
It's super interesting that they chose the Lord's Prayer for the radio; as far as I know, it's largely used at Alcoholic Anonymous and Addicts Anonymous
Buddy Simulator 1984 is a really great game for those that like text based stuff, it's one of my favorite games and I don't understand why more people haven't played it
I saw Jonah Scott in the credits and now I'm extra excited for this game. I love his voice so much. He's such an amazing voice actor. (^__^) Jonah Scott is MICHAEL. His voice is perfect!!
This was such a psychological thriller, and such a good one for being so short. Interesting that he chose his cousin who initially didn't like his work (maybe the first person who didn't like his work?) to be his ultimate victim. And so many bodies, yikes. I kind of wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt at first like maybe he does just want to write horror games and the 80s logic is against it, but no no. No, he's crazy. They're always crazy lol. Hearing him walk around in the background was tense, especially at the end. Great job to the developers.
Having coffee while watching Gab's Let's Plays became a routine for me... I just can not have it especially if Gab is also having one hahaha so coooozy 💜💜
Michael's voice was driving me mad, I knew it, but couldn't for the life of me remember where from. It's Aidan from Dying Light 2 🤣 I had to look it up in the end. Such a good voice actor!
I never understood text based games when I was little, I just couldn’t figure out the right responses or I’d get lost and forget what directions I chose. Lol now after watching this im tempted to find em and play em right this time. I think my biggest issue too when I was lil was I had adhd and I hated reading bc my 1st grade teacher bullied me and constantly made an example out of me in front of the class bc it took me a lil longer to learn than everyone else. Now im diagnosed/medicated for adhd and I loveee reading so I think I’d enjoy these games now.
( SPOILER WARNING ) Can anyone explain the ending? I was kinda confused by it… so did they actually die or was that the cousin that was making the game??
This was a pretty interesting game, and definitely makes me excited to see more from the dev. Your editing and commentary were so on point, added to the super spooky vibe!
16:19 I'm sitting here in March 1st with my Christmas lights still up don't judge me it's hard to say goodbye a a whole year to Christmas 🎄😅 and it's snowing out here and all cloudy and dark and I'm curled up with my own Starbucks creation cinnamon Dulce sugar cookie iced coffee watching this hearing the snowy rain hit the window and hearing the rain on t.v it's so cozy 😍
Ergh... another one that has been blindly seduced by the number 69 and its false whispers of greatness only to lead them away from the resl greatest number ever 42.. if uou dont know why i weep fir your soul... 😜
omg what garret watts in the intro caught me so off guard and the voice acting???????? its soooo good alr n i love his stuff sm edit: not gab complementing his va omgg
I mean the therapist is right if the game was just the text based game I’d be concerned about the mental state of the developer but if it’s a game like this it’s cool
48:23 - I sure hope the dead bodies aren't "real" at this point, or that they have a bigger role to play than being literally inanimate props, as the character put it.
