I genuinely don’t think there’s any other RU-vidr that would fought so hard to make such a miserable drive happen, I think the second time it over heats most are calling it quits
A wild PF appears! Westen might think his jeep is good, but until I see you test it I won't believe it. Maybe a special video - testing all of Westen's cars to find which is the best (including which made him the most money on RU-vid 😜)
You made an absolutely unbearable drive and then fixed it and drove all the way back. But I don't think anyone has mentioned yet the fact that you completed a level 6 trail rated as intermediate that "requires a rear locker" and 35"+ tires are recommended.....😳 With two open diffs, old ass tires and a clutch that was giving you hell! ABSOLUTE LEGEND BROTHA!!! 🤙
We had two 40’s Willy’s jeeps at my grandparents ranch and we put those things through more crap in the mountains and river and sand than they probably faced in Germany and they took it every time. When we very rarely broke them they were super easy and fast to fix. When you lock the front hubs and put the in 4 wheel low they are just about unstoppable. We had a couple of other 4 wheel drive vehicles there that couldn’t do half the stuff those 2 Willy’s could.
@@kyleh3615 I’d imagine it would pull a 30’ foot trailer as well lol. We use to pull 12’ wide drag behind ours to clean up and level out the surfaces of our roads to the river and our alfalfa fields. They are what I learned to dive stick in and nothing is worse than driving stick through the mountains almost 30 miles to town. Steering never was exactly the tightest and you always had to pump the brakes after a bit lol. Needless to say I was never nervous driving any other standard vehicles in the mountains and hills. The government got that vehicle right. Then again that was a different time with different builders and such. Truly amazing vehicles and in my opinion the most indestructible Jeep ever made.
@@kyleh3615 yep, we thought about changing them out at one time but ultimately decided that it really wasn’t worth it considering what we primarily used them for. Plus they are really easy to work on and are practically bullet proof. We had a lifted 79 GMC C-1500 4x4 with mechanical hub locks that we fully restored. It was more for more my grandparents as it was a more comfortable and had an A/C & Heater lol. Anyway neither it or the 82 Bronco could hang with the Willys. The only other off road vehicle that we had that came close was our International Harvester Scout. I absolutely loved that vehicle. It was in pretty bad shape and didn’t have an engine when we acquired it. We ended up dropping in a 454. It would absolutely run and I’ve had it airborne on several occasions lmao. The memories, I miss so much about those days!!!
@@P-J-W-777 hell yeah man. I built my jeep the winter of 2020-21 when I was making crazy money from the 'hazardous pay' Not a week after her first drive, I had the jeep in every type of mud I could find. I've just kept pushing it and it keeps going
My wife had never watched any of Westens videos and decided to watch this one with me and she was dying of laughter the entire time. Keep up the funny videos
I just wanted to say thanks! I'm going through some really tough times right now. My stress level has been the highest it's ever been in my life. Watching your video really helped me to get my mind off of everything for a little bit! Thanks
@@tallmarn8927 and he always uploads full videos, it might take longer to see another video but when you do you know it's something interesting. He could easily split up all his videos into 20 parts but he doesn't and i respect that a lot
If that ol' jeep can make it up there in origional form and minimal work i can only imagine what it could do with some extra time out into it. Amazing view!!!
That jeep brought back some memories. I had one in Korea, and elsewhere, that issue brought me back from a lot. Why the Army got rid of that, and when with another, is beyond me. Small, less of a target, a tried and true performer, something you could depend on. is what this jeep was all about.
Them old Jeeps are super capable. Some other channels they hit the Gnar obstacles and trails all over the country. It's not a step backwards for Off-road but a step forward !!
Thay old Korean war era jeep will be running long after all these new pos phony wannabe jeeps are long gone ! I've got 26 Willy's jeeps in my back yard to prove it !
i have been wondering for WEEKS where part 2 has been. THANK GOD its finally here, and also, i dont think any other RU-vidr would be as dedicated to this Jeep as you are Westen. Makes me happy, Much love man🤟🏼🤝🏼🫶🏼
The clutch dropping to the floor near the top of the mountain was unsettling!! ….then the gas pedal tried to hang up, felt like Final Destination for a minute!! 😆👍
Army Jeeps are either in phenomenal shape or absolutely destroyed, I can assure you my boss has destroyed more og Jeeps than were lost to ww2, we have several behind the shop I work at, one that was rolled and the body was rebuilt out of wood
That was just brilliant! And really, with a little tlc, she'll do it again. No lift or other spurious "improvements". Get the clutch fixed, work on the trans/transfer case and change all the fluids.
My rig is the little green machine leaving the look out in the drone shot at 19:59. We talked with the white jeep couple that is parked in the trees, nice people and a nice day to be on the trail.
That Jeep is the mascot for the "F around and find out" generation cause it refused to give up even when its best days are behind it. Good on ya Westin!!!
I think it would be cool if you did a road trip using the 3 military vehicles you got. They'll probably have alot of break downs but that's what'll make it fun.
The Jeep you have is NOT a WW II model. It is a 1950s era Jeep since it still has a flat head engine. In the 1960s, they body style remained substantially the same but they upgraded to an overhead valve engine, fully synchronized transmission, and 12 volt electrical system as well as increasing the tire size somewhat. The vehicle identa-plate will have the year of manufacture on it. By the way, WW II ended in 1945.
Someone will correct me but i think the Willy's did so well because of weight and gearing. They are really light, very short wheel base and geared LOW. So it does not have to work that hard to pop it over stuff. Wonder if you took a stock TJ and stripped down and geared it down if it would do the same?
Thank you uploading a RU-vid video seems like it's been awhile since you've been on RU-vid lately Weston hope you're doing well seven-year-old Jeep goes back down the mountain without losing the clutch! Great video can't wait to see your other RU-vid video next week!
Honestly thanks for making this video. I was sad as fuck, most of my friends are no longer my friends, I am lost in my 2nd year of university, just feeling that I want to go back to school, relive the nicer moments of my life (nicer because of the ignorant glasses of nostalgia). Seeing this video, this is exactly what I want to do in life. I remember thanks to you why i chose to study automotive engineering, and why I own multiple basket cases from the 70s on which i work whenever I have time, to bring back on the road. It really helps when im down.
Willys Jeeps and Fiat Panda 4 by fours for some reason are really decent off-road it's mostly because they don't weigh anything and they just kind of hippity hop over everything
Seeing you drive to my home town of junction and hitting up the O'Reilly's and car wash I've been to hundreds of times was really cool. Wish I would've been there to see you and let you know how much I've enjoyed your videos and appreciate what you've done!
Some Westen Champlin, always makes the day better. Doesn't matter you could be having a bad day.. Westen salvages it for you. Having a good day... Westen makes it even better!
My grandfather did an American roadtrip in a army jeep he bought somewhere in the 50s so it must been a jeep like this. He was a sailor from the Netherlands on the Holland-America line and he stayed in the States for a while. He’s still a live and 91 years old now. Still telling allot of stories about his time in the USA in the late 40’s and 50’s and beginning of the 60’s .
Westen remember that it may be 70 years old but when it was made it was made by the hands of people who were skilled and they put together a jeep that would survive WWII and more, she never gave up but she needed some updated stuff, that's one hell of a made in America jeep!!
I have gx460 and dig the lr4 looks and features. I was considering switching to a lr4 so I joined a few lr4/3 related Facebook groups. The GX forums are centred around mods the LR4 pages is filled with people consoling each other on whether they should fix or scrap their rides. Great build, good luck I hope you got one of the good ones!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, Westen. Easily one of your best. I hope somewhere there's a guy who worked originally building these Jeeps who gets to see this; i imagine it would be deeply satisfying.
