We Owe Demon's Souls For Soulsborne (Retrospective) 

Nicely done. When Demons's Souls debuted, I was still a relatively young man. Now I'm enjoying Elden Ring in my 40s.

Demon's souls is definitely my favourite of the souls games. Maybe it's the tint on my nostalgia glasses, but I just love the feeling of it, the atmosphere and how the world feels "real". I've finished it so many times but I always feel the need to go back and give it one more try. The only thing that comes close to that feeling is sekiro. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the Elden ring dlc. But nothing quite hits that high of playing Demon's for the first time. What an experience.

Awesome, glad finally someone discusses it. Played before DS1 release, and I see now many people hopped in during or way after DS1, and don't know, count, or like Demon's Souls. It's the first Souls game, pretty damn simple. Just is less "open" than Dark Souls, which is still super linear. But many precedents and the combat system comes from here so I hope more people give it credit

I think out of all the things souls brought us my favorite is the multiplayer mechanics. So strange but so fascinating

Man that remake still looks unbelievably gorgeous, nutty to me a launch game still blows away lots of current titles. I got my buddies into Demons Souls years and years back, started a lifelong love of the series with all of them. I'd been playing a bit of Kings Field and Armored Core, way more AC, so i picked up DS. Haven't liked back since, i think a lotta people skip over Demons. It's got its own quirks, shortcomings and all that but it's a great game overall. Especially all the new players Elden Ring brought in, it's worth your time.

Cool video, and I respect your takes. I personally don’t really like the changes made in the remake very much, but I can understand that others do for things like a stable 60fps. I wish they could’ve done a Halo Anniversary style remake (you can switch between old and updated graphics), and that they hadn’t changed maiden astrea's theme, but oh well

After the Elden Ring DLC I want to play this again.

I enjoyed this video, and I’d like to share my perspective. The cadence with we’re taken on this ride, I would say is rushed. Performing this video at half speed, and taking an hour to guide me through this, I think I would have valued it more than I already do. I don’t want to feel rushed while hearing and trying to understand your innermost thoughts on a franchise and installment we both deeply care for. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, and I can’t wait for more uploads! Liked and subscribed!

When you really stop and think about it, souls games stole almost 90% of its mechanics and style from metroid. The bonfires are basically save stations and everything good about the level design is also metroid

Man, i agree with you. Demons souls is very special, but you should have shown the original. Emulating it is very easy nowadays and talking about the things that make demons souls special while showing a vastly different version of the demons souls that changed it all doesnt feel right

I still debate what I like more Demons Souls or Elden Ring. But you should really be play Demons Souls on rpcs3 because the art design, sound and NPC voices on the remake butchers the story.

PS5 Demon's souls is NOT the definitive version of it, what they did to the atmosphere is disgusting.

How is it that I prefer how the Demon’s Souls remake visuals/animations better than Elden Ring ? I have 1000+ hours in Elden Ring. Haven’t gotten to play Demon’s Souls yet, but now I have a PS5 and the digital deluxe edition is on sale so you already know I’m getting that with my next paycheck 😂 idk though, I’ve seen a bit of the game because I refuse to by a game without knowing that I’m going to like it. The visuals look great and animations as well. It may be because ER’s open world is pretty overwhelming to me (ADHD over here) i start a new character and can’t stick to it for too long before either getting bored with the build or just not having fun anymore. I’ve not even beat the game yet and I don’t see when I will unless I just rush it (who knows maybe I’m meant to be a speed runner 😂) I just can’t seem to stick to it. Demon’s Souls, like Dark Souls, is much more linear and I’ve actually only ever beat dark souls. I’ve played all the dark souls games, but I just restart towards the end due to getting bored. One nice animation in Demon’s Souls was the back stab with fists (haven’t seen much lol), compared to ER, I really feel it when the animation is playing out lol. Probably not the right place to dump all this word vomit, but here you are 😂

Alright I know commenting before watching is… well whatever. This “definitive” version of the game isn’t deserving of that title. It’s an overproduced product that doesn’t come close to what it was originally. It just upsets me, why did they change the music and voices I can take the art changing but why did they have to homogenize what made it the most unique in the whole series.
