Yes and we all wonder why the pilots onboard allowed this ship to be blown off course, and continue in high desert cross wind/dust storm. Incompetent human error. Lessons to be learnt for sure.
My wife and I are sailing around the world in a small (34ft) sailboat. We often radio these big ships to say "have you seen us (visually or on radar)". Getting run over by one of these huge vessels is our greatest fear, which is why we invariably call them. They are always very polite and often change course to give us more room.
@@Akt_gaur Good for you. Around Central America, however, we came to the conclusion that many short handed vessels do not keep a constant watch and rely on alarms to identify risks to navigation. We could see them, of course, first on the AIS (~ 30 miles) and then visually (~10 miles) but by their bearing it was obvious that they could not see us. We would radio them at about 10 NM and they would confirm that they could neither see us on radar or visually (and a sailboat we have a mast head light) but took our course and position to take avoiding action. Some have told us that they still could not see us at 5 NM, which for a ship with limited maneuverability doing 18 Kts is too close for comfort! This last month we installed an AIS transponder, so hopefully they will now see us far earlier.
Till now I have come across many sailing boats . And it's really good to know that you have installed AIS transponders . It's hard to see you guys from such big ships at longer ranges
@Ryan Yes, we can try that but we are already running the mast head tricolor (that sailing vessels are allowed). Our experience is that we are not visible until about 3 to 5 miles, most nights, which gives big ships comparatively little time to maneuver. Hopefully adding an AIS transponder will give them a much larger margin to react. We came close to being run over by a ferry in the Sea of Cortes, who was actually maneuvering to avoid another large vessel (freighter) and doing so came within a half mile of us. Terrifying!
My father was a Captain in container ships I traveled with him since I was 4 years old i ❤️ your videos brings back so many memories Respect for all maritime !!
Karanvir normally I wouldn’t say this to anyone. But you have a knack for these videos. Not wasted time in video or trying to fill dead space per say. Many people make videos and by a few min into them you want to stop watching. But you video is very well put together. Congrats. Hopefully all is going well for you. Many years ago I used to work on a cruise line. Got to see the world and it was a great time. Sadly RU-vid etc wasn’t around back then. Stay safe!
@@tarangshah6718 Evergreen is the shipping company. Evergreen names their ship "Ever (blank)" Example: Ever Globe, Ever Safety, Ever Glory. All Evergreen ships with it painted on the side, but the ships name is not Evergreen.
@@joyfullyenjoy it was a joke. I actually have no idea what factors lead to the incident, nor do I believe one could learn to pilot a shop by watching a vlog on youtube.
Middle Eastern accent by the captain of the merchandise. Overwhelmingly fascinating sandy Suez canal. It is the crucial narrow passage from Middle East to the West for merchandising. It however, gets blocked often due to the strong wind that brings the sand into the fairly less depth canal obstructing the passage of cargo ships. Wow! Over 500,000 dollars just to cross the canal! Insane! Thank you for showing us this marvellous. Somebody should make a film over this canal and its life.
The last time ever I had anything to do with Suez canal was in my sixth grade geography lessons and 30 years later I am actually seeing for the first time the real Suez canal even if it is only in a video, all thanks to evergreen and karanvir sir
Can't help with this, but I do help with personal mastery and would love to get your feedback on my latest video so that I can do better. Thank you in advance. Hope you have a great week ahead 😊
During the annexation of Goa (Daman and Diu) portugese PM sent warship to attack India but PM Nehru and PM of Egypt were very close friends. (because Egypt was also non aligned like India). Egypt PM didn't allowed the warships to cross Suez canal hence we got our Goa back
I'm a musician. Respect to all the sailors in the world. Whatever your profession, do it with passion and always see the beauty in the world and in people.
@Anzu Wyliei Operating more than 700 vessels globally Maersk is continuously reviewing our fleet composition to match current and future operational requirements. In the latest review, it has been decided to divest eight vessels to external parties, with deliveries expected from mid-September 2020 to the end of this year. Upon handover, these vessels will be under technical and crew management by their new owners, and Maersk plan to time-charter them back to the fleet for a period. The length of the time charter will vary from vessel to vessel. With a revised mix of owned and chartered vessels, Maersk will have more flexibility of adjusting our fleet and capacity to market demand going forward. In deciding on which vessels to be divested several factors have been considered for example age, efficiency, network requirement, alternatives available in the market, etc. With these divestments Maersk will no longer own Dutch flagged vessels. This is in line with our Flag Strategy and will reduce complexity and cost of running our business, which has also been a factor in adjust the number of seafarers employed by Maersk Ship Management BV (The Dutch Maersk entity) accordingly. It is our intention to discontinue the employment of officers and ratings, except for Captains and Chief Engineers, by Maersk Ship Management BV. Maersk has initiated the discussion with the Works Council of Maersk Ship Management. As soon as we have reached an outcome this will be communicated directly to affected employees. Maersk will no longer be able to assign the trainees and cadets to Dutch flag vessels. We will, however, offer the current trainees and cadets to complete their seatime onboard of other vessels subject to finding availability under current crew changes restrictions. . No change for Top2 on divested vessels In order to retain experience in the fleet, Captains and Chief Engineers will not be affected by these changes and will continue their employment unchanged. Captains and Chief Engineers will be assigned to other Maersk vessels when their respective vessel have been delivered to their new owners. No change for crew on other contracts Crew on the vessels above flying Hong Kong flag and crew employed on other contracts than those under Maersk Ship Management BV on the vessels above flying Dutch flag, will not be impacted but planned for other vessels in the fleet. Questions If you have any questions you are welcome to ask them to your respective Manning Office. The eight vessels being divested will be invited for a telephone conference shortly to answer their questions directly. Yours sincerely, Tanuj Luthra, Head of Fleet Operations, and Niels Bruus, Head of A.P. Moller - Maersk
I guess you are the first mariner to my knowledge who really know how to make videos, intros are also awesome,(especially the music, would like to know the source if feasible for you).
Great job and very interesting in your presentation for most of us never seeing what it takes to run a cargo ship through the Suez canal. I'm impressed.
I think that before yesterday, the number of views was not even more than half a million. I believe that by tomorrow it will exceed the 2 million views, because the video appears in the trend of the Suez Canal ship accident
Thank you for the tour. It bring back memories of growing in the Panama Canal Zone. My father was a Canal pilot. I was fortunate to transit the Canal with him several times. On the largest of ships, there were 5 pilots aboard. The locks required multiple pilots at times.
one of my fav childhood memory as an Egyptian is taking a trip to one of the canal cities and sitting on the side of the canal with a view of huge ships passing by
@চট্টলা এক্সপ্রেস "Officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt, Egypt spans from the northwest corner of Africa to the southwest corner of Asia. Given this geographical location, Egypt is considered a transcontinental country: a country that has part of its landmass located in two different continents" So yes, a part of Egypt is from Asia.
I wish I had not screwed up my education, I would be at the age when I would finish naval school and be an officer on a ship like this. I always find it amazing to see the ocean, canals, rivers, storms in high sea. I wish I could spend my whole life sailing the sea, it seems to peaceful. Nothing to worry beside your ship. Instead I'm unloading those ships now, from what I've heard I'm paid better than the crew and I go come every day. But idk man, sailing seems just so much more of a nicer life experience.
From a person who could only read up on ships and sailing instead of taking a career at sea due medical conditions, your videos bring a mixture of joy, wistfulness and further enlightenment and knowledge gaining. Keep up the great job!!! Looking forward to videos from your next deployment... 🙂 P.S. The piano background theme in this video is ABSOLUTELY Amazing! You should use it more in your videos. Could you please tell me what is the name of this tune/theme? From a guy who traverses the skies to one who traverses the seas.... see you around, mate!!!
I remember the transits so vividly, even though it has been about 12 years. It was so peaceful, but, boy was it HOT! I had to stay on the bridegwing wearing a ballistic vest and watching out for my ship to the port side.
Just wow! When I was young I also dreamed to work in a container ship and I've been watching videos of emma maersk whenever I search about container ships and it feels like I'm the one on your position while watching this video! Keep safe bro nice content!!
Wow, this video was very interesting and the area is beautiful. It is very expensive to cross the Suez Canal. Thanks for your info! Greetings to you an the crew. I wish you a safty journey! 🤗
@@chirstopherj22 no not that. I meant that suez canal has become an important topic of discussion lately, which grabbed many's attention. However, usually it doesn't get that much of attention, and this kind of attention made me feel weird because I have never valued it's importance until now.
Who is here like me after blockage of evergreen ship in suez canal.... I just loved this canal and thts beautiful view am here to know abt suez canal history and its trade
8:16 that's probably what happened to the Ever Given. They wanted to film the monument but missed it aswell, so the captain decided to make a u-turn and go back
