If you include the live albums Unleashed in the East is their best album according to me. And yes i prefer Priest over Maiden as well. But great Show. You managed to bring two of the best reviewers. Awesome!! Cheers.

I came here because of Martin and Pete, with they added bonus of Priest being my favorite band. My all-time favorite Priest album would be hell Bent for Leather. And Firepower is amazing! They finally got the amazing production that they needed back in the seventies (improve technology, but even through defenders of the faith I found their production sometimes slightly lacking)... Thoroughly enjoyed the show, and I subscribed to your channel 🤘⚡🤘

Firepower is really special to me. I bought it after school and put it in the car stereo wondering if they still had it. Needless to say, that opening riff answered my question. My number 1 would be Stained Class, with Firepower at number 2. I love all of them.

7) Rocka Rolla 6) Defenders of the Faith 5) British Steel 4) Screaming For Vengence 3) Stained Class 2) Hell Bent For Leather 1) Unleashed In The East/Priest In The East The Japanese import with the full set (15 tracks) is killer!! Unleashed is the perfect Priest album on every level and the only one you can't live without.

I find Painkiller and Firepower dificult to listen to. They seem like they're trying too hard and there's no heart/soul in them. Classic Priest always had emotion and dynamics. I don't find the Painkiller-sounding Priest appealing at all!

5. Sin After Sin 4. Firepower 3. Screaming For Vengeance 2. Stained Class 1. Unleashed in the East (If Unleashed doesn't count, move everyone up and add Painkiller as #5) *** Several times Martin mentions that Priest was the only band playing this type of metal, but I disagree. KK says in his book that it was Priest and the Scorpions who were exclusively playing heavy metal.

Have Martin written about the famous “stolen Tapes” PR incident ? A friend of mine played on a festival in mid Norway with Priest in Mid 70s . My friends band was called “Satans Horns “ and was a jazz group. He d said Halford was a super nerd while the rest were great to party with . My self I used to party to Judas Priests in cars and home parties and student days from 78 . I just got back my original Vinyls from the 70s .

Painkiller and Hell Bent for Leather are my number 1 and 2. Painkiller is just pure metal. That’s why people love it so much. I’ve always said if somebody who had no idea what heavy metal was and you wanted to show them I don’t think there is a better song to encapsulate heavy metal than Painkiller. Drum solo, following by the crushing unrelenting drum beats, insane guitar solos, other worldly vocals talking about the end of the world and apocalyptic sounding riffs. to accompany it. And the album just keeps that momentum going till the very end. It’s metal perfection.

@@GuitarHack66 Yeah I know mine is a bit different than how most people would rank em. I’m a younger Priest Fan so I tend to lean towards the stuff Painkiller and on so that’s why I rank some of their more recent albums higher than some of their earlier ones. Plus I tend to really gravitate towards the faster stuff and Painkiller is that for me. And lastly, Stained Glass and Redeemer of Souls are really tied at number 5 for me, although if the production was just slightly better on Stained Glass than I would definitely had put it at number 5 no question

Point of Entry is definitely underrated imho - it's one of my favourites from Priest - great upbeat album. Solar Angels was one of the first tracks I heard from Priest that convinced me to start listening to them. I would of had Angel of Retribution quite high too although it takes a while to get going once you hit Demonizer the rest of the album is killer.

I 100% agree with the concert sound these days. It's not just that is too loud, but the sound people really have no idea what they're doing. It's an art to properly mix a live heavy metal band. They emphasize bass too much to make it thicker and heavier, but all they do is muddy it up. Especially in huge arenas. Frequencies competing with each other so everything sounds like mush.

My fav is just Unleashed...but It's a Live album so, I get it...but for me that's the ultimate JP album. In the studio they never reached that perfection (imho). Otherwise I'd say Sad wings, Point of Entry, Sin after Sin, Screaming and Painkiller (although mainly for the title track-what a track!). Rock on!

'British Steel' gets a lot of love, but it really is the start of a commercial era with 'Point of Entry' coming after. Older people hated 'United', 'Breaking The Law' and 'Living After Midnight' for being commercial and poppy. Live, they were great but at the time it seems we were losing them to America and they diluted their sound for American radio / MTV (see Whiesnake). 'Sad Wings Of Destiny', 'Killing Machine' and 'Sin After Sin' are prime Priest.

Nostradamus definitely has its own identity. It is profound and elaborated but plagued by lot of flaws for example production, fake orchestration, weak guitars and its whole length exceeding 1:40 end even more minutes holy Gowd...too long overlong, but there are really masterpieces kinda Alone or Death (here I lack stronger guitars, but as whole I love it)

Interesting that the majority of choices are up to Defenders and after Redeemer apart for Painkiller. Personally I'm more with Martin P on that one and my top ten is virtually the same as his though I'd swap Sin After SIn with Killing Machine (sorry being a Brit I just cant get to calling it Hell Bent for Leather) because SAS has my favourite Priest song in Let Us Prey/Call for the Priest, it was also my first Priest album. I also think that there would be a stunning killer Priest album (possibly a double) if you take the best songs off of Point of Entry, Defenders of the Faith, Turbo and Ram it Down. Favourite solo is in Call for the Priest, though I also really like Glenn's solo in Freewheel Burning and KK's in Before the Dawn, which I think is probably the greatest ever Heavy Metal ballad. And for Priest v Maiden I'm in the Priest camp - again for the same reasons as Martin P - Guitar Hack quoted the run from Stained Class to Defenders of the Faith I'd extend that back to Sad Wings. As for live sound when I saw Priest at Manchester in 2005, with Scorpions supporting, Glenn's solos were just too ear piercingly loud and made it quite uncomfortable so for me that night Scorpions took the honours. The Ripper albums - not for me, I prefer Nostradamus over those and as for Nostradamus, it maybe would have been a lot lot better as a single - cut down t around 40-45 minutes it could have been a killer - and i've just done that by removing those silly short interludes and ending up with a tracklist of Revelations/Pestilence and Plague/ Conquest/ Alone/Persecution/Nostradamus/Future of Mankind. Cold possibly switch out one or two of those for Prophecy or Detah, though it makes for a far better listen. Looking forward to the Black Sabbath show, in advance my favoutrite 2 BS albums are, controversially, Technical Ecstacy and Never Say Die :)

I just gave "British Steel" & "Hell Bent for Leather" another listen & respectfully I just can't get into those albums, there's maybe 3 songs in total between the 2 that I like, & imo "Point of Entry" is better than those 2 albums combined! I definitely need to give "Screaming for Vengeance" another spin, because everyone praises it so much!

One of the most wasted thing in priest and lied about was Dave Holland . As lesbinks fan i was super rude on Dave But reading incredible comment of Glenn hughes , KK , ventor from Kreator and realizing that Pantera , and Mercyful fate were huge fans of Trapeze , after 17 years of drumming and a more mature ear and artistic concept , i checked up Trapeze live stuff ... and even i loved the album Play me out (1977) by Glenn hughes i never wondered that was Dave playing on it . But Trapeze.live 1972 , and 1975 .. Man What a Drummer and arranger A pretty good Pionnier ( Medusa was 1970 ) and one the best Funk drummer ive heard ', good swing drummer too ( Before and after piano section in Fairytales ) and a good heavy , doomy , progressive , modern godfather funk metal drummer . Killer snare and crispy Toms fills , and very more fluid groove than Priest actually . And even.when you listen Keepin time live in 1972 ,( the intro is brutal for the time , see Dave feet intro ) Your love is alright in 1972 , To the live Jury 1975 and Medusa Even ending or most of Live boat Club , The guy was using some double bass drums on thoses songs and did update live stuff So he was ABLE to do it . As he did in Genocide too live in JP in 1980 .... so i stopped to hate him. I mean business is business but i am a drummer and the fact he did solid double bass control in 70's and did not much with Priest wasnt at all an unability from him . It was an order direction . So politics that Rob ( sorry man ) and Glenn tipton did spread about Dave s drumming is one the biggest Lie i discovered

Love Rapid fire and Steeler, underrated. Hate United too ( Liverpool football fan here). Grew up with Turbo as a 13 old. Never listen to it now. Painkiller, British Steel, Unleashed, Firepower and Screaming for vengeance for me. Not familier with the 70s albums but like live versions of them. Impressedby by their endurance, still Great band like Maiden.

My top 5 (unleashed would be my number one, but if only studios are accepted): 1.Stained Class 2.Painkiller 3.Sad Wings 4.Sin After Sin 5.Killing Machine (honourable mentions: Screaming, Defenders, Firepower). British Steel is mediocre, some killer songs, some crap. The other albums are equally mediocre (Ram It Down, Redeemer of Souls and Angel of Retribution) or even worse. Still, Priest is my favourite band of all time.

I hate the arena concerts , they seem to bring out the worst in people and they’re way too expensive. Much prefer the smaller venues where you can wander about with a beer and go back and to for a pee ..... all night. Honestly the loudest concert I’ve ever heard was Priest at the Manchester Apollo on the Redeemer tour and it was crystal but wow it was way louder than the times I saw Motörhead there . That said I love concerts , the build up , the company, beer but do I hate getting home and most of the time I’m not even sure how I’ve done it , oh and weekday concerts suck ! Sorry folks I think it’s going to be a long time before we can mosh again and I’m not sure of the wisdom of rescheduling any of these dates atm

Resuming watching from when I got home... sorry about the Irish Goodbye last night... 😎✌️... had to add...I prefer smaller venues for shows just because they can do a better job of getting the sound good ... most recently, Pre-Rona of course, Alter Bridge at a casino show late February (a bit loud but bearable) Tom Morello (sounded killer at the SF Fillmore), Eric Johnson sounded amazing at the Rio in Santa Cruz doing his Anniversary Ah Via Musicom show, as well as, Steve Vai doing his Anniversary Passion & Warfare show also at the SF Fillmore... but I go to the big shows if that's the only option... LOVE LOVE LOVE live music... the energy is palpable! I also saw The Double Bill of Judas Priest doing Fire Power & Deep Purple with Steve Morse (guy's a monster!) at "not" my favorite place, the Shoreline Ampitheater in Mountain View CA... but still an awesome show! I'll often buy tickets for others just too have someone to go with... can't wait for live shows to come back! 😎🤘🎸

I'll do a different JP list. My most underrated and overrated albums: 1) Point of Entry-A couple of terrible tracks on it, but it had some great songs and I like the fact Priest was trying to explore in other directions with this album instead of making British Steel Pt. 2. 2)Ram It Down...not a great album, but not as shitty as some make it out to be. A couple of great tracks on it. 3) Firepower-Really amazed the group could do (arguably) a top 5 album without KK Downing this late in their career Most overrated (Just one) British Steel-I'm sorry, not seeing this is some people claim as their greatest album. Half of it is borderline pop-metal (Living After Midnight, United). Not a terrible album, but it's one that a rarely care to listen to.
