I absolutely loved having a different complicated rule to choose each started. I think it might be unironically my favorite format so far. I also think a good alternate title that carries the same vibe would be “We Used Yugioh Rules to Choose our Starters”.

Vinny giving a hint in that one round gave me an idea for one of these. Each round there can be a meh/good/best option. You always tell the opponent what the good (middle-road) option is. they have to choose to take the mid option or risk getting the worst or better option

To clarify with the last round, they said guessing the digits of the Pokédex number "within three" but the way they did it was actually +/- 1 or within 1 either side. But anyway i really enjoy the obscurity of each set of rules even to being personalized to their own YT channels lol

It actually sounds interesting to add a wheel during the battle part. Like, imagine things like: - You must use a STAB move (or switch out) this turn. - You cannot switch out this turn. - No rules this turn, but the next roll happens for the next two turns. - No rules this turn, but next turn has 2 effects instead of 1 (if they cannot work together, only the first one is used). - You can only use a move that has at least 1 letter in common with the name of your Pokémon (not the custom name). - If your current Pokémon has no nickname, you have to switch out. - Play Rock/Paper/Scissors. The winner chooses the loser's next move (either Damaging Move, Status Move, or Switch Out). - Can't use Status move this turn. - Can only use a Status move this turn. - Spin a wheel with all 18 types. Only moves of that type can be used this turn. - Both players must switch out this turn. - Legendaries cannot attack this turn. - Both players tell the other the moves they have on their current Pokémon. They write what they want the other player to use this turn and show the other what they wrote at the same time. - Both players write what they think the other's next move is going to be. Guessing correctly allows to choose the other player's next move (either Damaging Move, Status Move, or Switch Out). - If a player wins this turn, the other player wins instead. - If a player has at least 2 more Pokémon left than the other, that player has to switch out, then switch back in the exact same Pokémon to waste 2 turns (if this activates, the second turn has no additional rule). - You can use your additional illegal move this turn. (NOTE: Considering both players know the contents of the wheel during the moment they build their team, they can decide to teach up to 1 illegal move to each of their Pokémon but it can only be used when this effect activates.) Once all of them have been done once, the wheel restarts.
