It would be interesting to see how a Commander precon with Jamniscience would fare against a CEDH deck which doesn't have Jamniscience.
@therealax6
@therealax6 8 месяцев назад
Most likely the precon would win. CEDH decks aren't equipped to deal with multiple seven-mana threats on turn 1, because that's not what they see!
@garrisonwu5862
@garrisonwu5862 8 месяцев назад
@@therealax6 I would say it depends heavily on what precons/CEDH decks are played. Some precons have low card draw and some CEDH decks can just win consistently t1-3, so those matchups would be heavily heavily CEDH favored, but if your precon has a bunch of consistent card draw its possible you could use your infinite mana to draw out your entire deck and flood the board with creatures while keeping a hand full of counterspells to beat whatever the CEDH deck tries to do and just win via card advantage.
@yaza862
@yaza862 8 месяцев назад
depends on the cedh deck imo, a fine tuned midrange meta deck will get blown out but a good old turbo naus or any turn 1 or 2 combo deck will, well combo off without any pressure of having to protect said combo
@therealax6
@therealax6 8 месяцев назад
@@yaza862 I'm not sure if it would have no pressure. Precons still have removal, counterspells, etc. - it's just expensive. But if all that interaction is free, it's powerful.
@NevarKanzaki
@NevarKanzaki 8 месяцев назад
Depends on the precon, depends on the competitive deck. For example, if the competitive deck is anything but a combo deck, it basically loses. How fast the precon wins and how much interaction they have also vary on which precon. For example, Zedruu doesn't have that many counters, the creatures aren't super impactful, and they don't have enough crazy draw. Meanwhile, Kaalia is probably the best for this, having lots of big creatures that it can play for free, establishing a fast clock. Also, it has multiple cases of "Check if your opponent has Force of Will. If not, they die" in the form of X burns. Lightkeeper of Emeria resolving is infinite life which takes away the win con of some combo decks. Kaalia puts the quickest clock on the opponent and still had disruption. Meanwhile, if we're going beyond the first 4 precons, beating something like Jeleva is extremely unlikely. It has a bunch of x spells, counterspells, and draw while the commander is going to dig for any of those. Any kill spells will just kill Jeleva so it can be done again. I think this amounts to either kill the Jeleva player on turn 1 or you're probably dead.

Carl def had some responses. Looking over the decklist, a Terminate to remove Kaalia would've forced the first copy of the spell that killed him to fizzle, a Comet Storm for X = 10,000,000,000 would've also done it, Evincar's Justice with Buyback would've killed Yamin too.

Carl had a lot of ways to get out of it, let spell crumple resolve so he can't be decked out as easily and redraw into master warcraft then cast Oblation (which isn't even in Carl's deck?), get it ricocheted, let it resolve with both targets, destroy signet with thunder, then return to dust if Jamin tries to counter thunder with the counter on the stack (this leaves exactly 2 counterspells still accessible, flusterstorm/scattering stroke and spell crumple with vision skeins). In this situation Jamin can't get spell crumple again and cast it to counter because Carl can cast sulfurous + beam which Jamin needs to counter then he can cast comet storm for game. So this leads to the situation where Jamin can't counter thunder then Carl tries to terminate his own Kaalia. If Jamin counters it then Carl can cast sulfurous blast and cleansing beam in response which would wipe almost all of the board, Jamin can't activate Brian because he has no mana so he has to attempt to cast vision which runs into comet storm X=a bajillion. There's a lot that I missed but Carl could maneuver himself into a win with extremely careful play if he knew the deck list and counter amount beforehand. Even having this much time to work it out I still haven't considered all possible ways Jamin could play it and how Carl works through everything to cast storm when Jamin has no counterspells for it, comet storm also had to end the game or Jamin won with killing Carl through damage and essentially decking out Fele with Jotun grunt and skyscribing every turn or slowly killing him through damage which he could do very little about. This game was a beautiful mess of complicated interactions lmao

@@anamedninja5536 The funny part is Master Warcraft doesn't even do anything at all. There are no blockers, so he can't choose what creatures block or how. All creatures must attack, so he can't choose any choice other than "all creatures attack". And it doesn't let you choose *who* creatures attack, only which creatures attack. The card had literally 0 text on it.

Hilarious. We need more goofy game modes. Something we do in my pot. Every once in a while is you were playing the person to your lefts hand. They still are in charge of their combat phase but you’re in charge of using all the spells and you’re still trying to win. The only rule is you have to use mana if it’s available. We call it Zyri’s Clown Fiesta.

For every 5 CMC above 5, sactifice one permanent you control. If you want to make it even more in line, then make the sideboard part of the graveyard, to account for all threoff board interaction in ygo.

I think the Omniscience they have on Arena gets it about right, but if it's commander then it should be a Draft. Arena version: All cards you can cast from your HAND will cost 0 mana, and during each turn (including your opponent's turns) you have access to an additional WUBRG which can be used on anything you want, such as to pay for activated abilities or Flashback costs, or to play a companion tax or to cast through a trinisphere or what have you. In the Arena version your starting hand size is 3 and you can have one free mulligan before you go down to 2 and so on. I think that's actually a smart model. If we did simply constructed play by those rules we would probably have very short degenerate games with everyone running the same cards, but if we make it a Draft, that changes the equation completely.

As much as I'd have preferred an actual game of commander, this was a fun little video. I only wish each player had a game where they had their own rule in play, although that would have prevented the whole short video thing you were going for, lol. I know this would probably be a lot more work but I'd love to see alongside the precon price a shopping wizard total if you were to buy the cards individually, I think it would be interesting to see how the value of the sealed product holds compared to buying singles. I'd also love to see a little price tag whenever a card gets spotlighted in a video but that's just out of laziness, lol.

I have a couple ideas for what my -mniscience would be, and I can't decide between them. Transmogriscience: If you would create one or more tokens during each of your turns, you may instead choose a permanent that shares a card type with those tokens and create that many tokens that are copies of that permanent. Do this only once each turn. A kind of powered-up twist on Esix, Fractal Bloom's ability. The phrasing is a little weird regarding typing because it's referring to ambiguous tokens that haven't actually been created yet, and I wanted the typing to matter instead of changing everything into creatures like Esix does. But I feel like it opens up a bit more interesting options: make token artifacts like treasures, copy artifacts like signets or equipment. Want more enchantments? Cast a Rite of Replication on an enchantment creature like a shrine. Someone played a cool land? Cast a big Awaken the Woods and you now have a bunch of cool lands! Also I switched it from "The first time you would create tokens" to "Do this only once each turn" to keep the 1/turn restriction but not hamstringing yourself with the timing of when you make your big batch of tokens. Recurscience: Whenever a card you own is put into exile or the graveyard from anywhere, if it is in that zone, you may put it on the bottom of your library. If that card is a permanent card, you may draw a card. For those of us that always want to have access to our cool toys. The intervening if clause is so things like flickering permanents or Living Death don't cause shenanigans, and the permanent clause is so running a ton of instants and sorceries doesn't let you just burn through your deck.

Consider the following: The Grand Carl-culatron! Similar to how this starts with an emblem for each player, each player starts with an emblem that has the following effects: Each player’s hand becomes a program (an ordered row of revealed cards). Players can only play the first card of their program. If a card would be put into a player’s hand from anywhere, that player reveals it and places it anywhere within their, or another player’s program instead. At the beginning of each player’s end step, if that player’s program has fewer than five cards, they draw cards equal to the difference. When an opponent casts a spell you own, you choose its targets. Creatures you own, but do not control, cannot attack you or planeswalkers you control. Players may cast spells and activate abilities using mana as though it were mana of any colour.

That sounds a bit like the concept of a Battlebox! You should check it out. It's a really quick, easy and fun way to use any cards that don't fit elsewhere and have fun memories 😊

@@FartRainbows Well, I don't even think we had dandan back then, it was around Unlimited and 4th edition. It was more related to having a hand of Leviathan, Erham Djinn and Lightning bolt, with all swaps and plains in the board.

After casting Spell Crumple and Wild Ricochet, Jamin only has Mindbreak Trap and Scattering Stroke as possible counterspells left in that deck. Carl can still fizzle the Oblation against Kalia with: Path to Exile, Bathe in Light, Terminate, Mortify, Wrecking Ball, etc. and fizzle against Orzhov Signet with Orim's Thunder, Return to Dust. Carl can also kill the table once the counterspells are gone with Comet Storm. P.S. I'm not sure how this happened anyway as Oblation was in the Zedruu deck, not the Kaliaa deck originally...

If you get to draw your whole deck that means you had fun, you don't even have to win.

Imagine playing this but no lands. Or play with lands but you can only play cards that are 0 after cost reduction.

This was great! I'd love to see some other episodes emblem-esque effects in play similar to other powerful cards. Here are a few ideas: The Thoralfacle at Pendrell Vale All creatures have "At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice this creature unless you pay 1." Yawgmoth's Carlgain Skip your draw step. Pay 1 life: Draw a card. Tefele's Realm At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player chooses artifacts, creatures, lands, or non-Aura enchantment. All nontoken permanents of that type phase out.
