BUT is it good for someone with ZERO connection or draw to the franchise? Is it a good RPG playing as a wizard? Does it fulfill typical RPG fantasy or just good for the existing fans? Having a hard time deciding if it's good because of fan service or if it's just a good game.
@@djerikfury I think it's really more geared to the fans, there is a ton of dialog and cutscenes but the fighting mechanics are pretty fun. Is it a real full RPG? I would say no, it's more of a heavily scripted adventure game with serious limits on how "evil" you can be. Unlike Skyrim you can't attack any NPC you want. It's a fun game for what it is though.
If you can play for 80 hrs and still have a hard time sitting down and doing a review because you didn’t want to leave the game then it’s safe to say this game is GOOD
I'm just 2 hours in. Been playing for an hour after work last couple days and already loving it. My wife who is 11 hours in likes watching me play just to see how I play and the choices I'm making
This, this is what we need as gamers. Not an overly monetized game that flashes us constantly to keep our attention but one that is diverse and keeps our attention as a result from creativity from the developers.
it's $60 and can't even make it work properly. is NOTopen world. is not finished, it has lousy character animation and an even lousier story. ANY ACTUAL gamer can see is NOT worth the price.

Thanks for showing the game with PC controls. I'm 62 tomorrow and have been playing games since the VIC 20 so I'm a kb and mouse gamer. A lot of games just don't put much thought into making their games good with the standard PC controls. Looks like I'll enjoy the wizarding world of Harry Potter as well.
@m_train1 I mean I guess if your hand eye coordination is shit that’s your better bet. But I don’t see many people playing Mortal Kombat or TKN on PC. Mask for platformer‘s people do it all the time and have awesome success with it so I guess it’s all about preference in hand eye coordination everything‘s going to be easier with 6 buttons on a 5in by 2in square if the hand and eye don’t work well together!
I love that you never include any spoilers in your reviews. It's probably the main reason I love your reviews over any other. The fact the production is top notch and the writing is fantastic too just cements you as the best reviewer out there. There was one question I wanted to know. Does each house have a separate story during playthrough? Meaning, is there a reason to replay the game from the different houses to get a different experience?
You don't know how much this comment means to us. This was the first big game we've had early access to and could get a review out at launch. Do we plan on getting 1-million views, no, but this absolutely sets us down a path to be a more serious reviewer in the gaming space. In terms of the story changing based on house we can't say for certain yet. We were doing two independent playthroughs and while some of the timing was ever so slightly different, the actual content didn't seem to change. Will report back

Mostly cosmetic changes, like an occasional comment "just the stellar performance I expected from House X!" or there's a broom you can get with your house colors. Stuff like that. But I myself am still young in the game, so haven't seen everything yet.
There are different quests but the story is the same; like you have the same characters and things to do, but how you get those and who is with you when you do "that thing" is the difference between houses. Worth playing it at least twice; so the second time you just experience quickly the content you didn't experience before
For those asking about PC performance, I wanted to give my experience. I just bought a fairly inexpensive laptop to play various games that I couldn’t get on my MacBook Pro. So I got the $800 HP (i7-12650h, RTX 3050ti, 16gb ram - upgraded to 32gb) from the local big box. Game set everything at “low” settings, but it is still a beautiful game. Only place I notice low graphics quality is how people’s hair looks. I was getting 60-80 FPS consistently, and the lowest I saw was in the 30s. I bumped up quality to high and I was still getting 40-50fps. The one setting that hurt was when I turned on ray tracing, which dropped the fps down into the teens at some points. My biggest limitation with the system seems to be the vram which is only 4gb. Game runs smooth as silk for me, and I haven’t seen any dropped frames in about 10 hours of gameplay. One key note - this is a brand new computer that has been stripped of a fair bit of the pre-installed bloat, and I only use it to play games, so there is little outside interference to impact gameplay. Let me know if anyone has questions.
I really wish i could preload, its going to cut down the time i can play when its out because of having to download... this early access isnt 72 hours after that
I'm playing dark and darker in the meantime. Beta just got released today right now and I'll be a wizard. That's as close as I'll get to Hogwarts for now

There are people in this moment who have to sleep in the dirt, don't have access to clean water, have gone days without eating a meal. Just put things in perspective and it'll be fine waiting a little longer for your game to download. It'll be okay.
As a book main person I just am in love with this game. As soon as I saw Peeves and the History of Magic room I almost started crying. Just wandering around Hogwarts, seeing my house common room, the great hall- it was like a legit dream come true and I just want to be there. Flying the first time was like ahhh seeing the centaurs come to a fight everything !
I am about 10 hours in and I can honestly say, it is OVERWHELMING how much there is to do in the BEST way! I had to force myself to stop playing for a bit :)
@@snipingway in order to make it a complete game 🤷🏿♂️.. come on its 20/23 a online mode is essential for it to be a complete game !! Maybe in the future when they add quidditch to the game they might add a online feature
“You’re so far removed from your original objective you’re not sure that you care about it anymore” immediately made me think of Elden Ring. I got only about an hour of playtime last night but I think this game will be fantastic.
I beat elden ring and I still had no idea what the story was or who the characters were or what their motivations were. Talked to melina a grand total of three times for a few seconds each time and the game thinks I should care when she burns herself. Still don't even know why she did it.
@@edenarchive4150 you need to pay attention to the npcs and follow there questlines, also there are a lot of places where you get the option to talk to melina at a grace, ranni's quest is probably the one that gives you the most information also the description of remembrances give you a fair amount of information as well.
Seriously though... you'll be on a bee line for an important task and something catches your attention... BAM, three side quests completed and 5 hours wasted AND you forgot what the important quest was you were on.
@@whitehood1e there's a map online showing what time it will be available to play around the world. For me it's 12am GMT, so about ten hours from now. You should be able to find the map on google images by typing in Hogwarts legacy global early access times
Got roughly 8 hours in my first day and i am absolutely loving this game. So much that I don’t even wanna go to sleep lol avalanche really made something special here even if it doesn’t have a ridiculous amount of content like Witcher 3 or Skyrim
Witcher 3 sucked my guy. Completely filler expansive questing likely only suitable to new rpg players not for us veterans who've already played as good and better/fresher.
@@gibbleway I kinda agree no matter how hard I try to get into Witcher 3 I just fall asleep. I have had much more fun with games like hogwarts legacy and cyberpunk
@@thesilvershota3091 Fable came out before witcher and failed to live up to the same aspects. The story was unoriginal, uninteresting and the combat/menu's was clunky/tedious. I really didnt like the endless map exploring with basic annoying monsters. Many adventure games did this better and had an interesting story.
@@droppingstreaks2095 see both of those have seemed more enthralling, I think a low ceiling has been set with a lot of casual/newer gamers. Immersion has been missing since the graphics revolution started well over a decade ago and witcher 3 seemingly appeared to bring the new gen a watered down sense of adventure that hadnt been produced in their conscious lifetime. Your thoughts on that welcome because I saw right through that boring drolling petty game. Swamps were annoying, world map had no interesting places, hated the weird enemy npc's
I'm 18 hrs into the game and I highly recommend it. Combat is complex and smooth. Build trees offer a variety of game play options. Not too expansive, but with enough variety to customize preferred play styles. World is beautifully crafted with a ton of discovery. There are so many mini-games and puzzles, of great variety, which makes everything feel "enchanted". The game really captures the essence of the Harry Potter universe. It's also very cool to walk through the various areas of Hogwarts and say "Oh, it's this place from the movies!"
This is excellent for Portkey games and Avalanche because it's going to elevate them to triple A status. Gamers will go "Oh Portkey and Avalanche made this game, then I know it likely will be special and good". You have to admire that they managed to achieve this because they haven't had any big hitters under their belt. So hitting a home run with their first big outing is great. Can't wait to play it on PC maxed out. Seems to just it all the right spots in each area.
I love love love to see a game designed around what players actually want! You’re going to see this game be a best seller despite The controversy and not just because it’s a Harry Potter IP

@ButteredToast_93, do you have multiple saves for the different houses? Without knowing much about the game story myself, I'm hoping each House gets it's own main storyline.
@@tommantek3632 each house has a slightly different story/cut scene that gets you to the beginning of the main quests, so far. Me and my kids are all different houses so I noticed that but its just a few fun scenes, the overall direction is the same.
"80 hours & we've barely scratched the surface" yet I heard people saying they beat the main story in about 20 & all the side objectives in about 40 strange.

I'm from South East Asia (thus I have started playing it earlier than most) and it's everything we've ever wanted and more. Just the opening sequence feels like a bombastic Harry Potter movie.
@@ChronoMune now that the honeymoon phase has somewhat ended, the game has some slight issues. I chose performance over graphics on the ps5 and the facial animations are just "okay". The last game I played on here was GoW Ragnarok and since that game wasn't as vast nor had as many characters as hogwarts, maybe I'm just experiencing some recency bias and it would not be fair to compare the two games based on facial animations. All in all its really good. Just the sum of all the pieces is amazing. Exploring hogwarts literally had me lost in a good way, even with the minimap on.
The best games are the immersive ones. Games where you have objectives to do, but you have the freedom to do what you want. And a good story is a must to help motivate the game play.
I played those original Harry Potter games back on the playstation and to see the kind of game we have now coming out is amazing. I'm really enjoying the amount of love they put into this game with the visuals and environment. I'm beyond excited and have been trying my best to avoid content but I saw you posted and had to see the review. I truly believe with how much love they put into this, they may try to create quidditch as a multiplayer side game that connects with this version so this can still be a stand alone solo and include multiplayer where it makes the most sense.
That would be cool! And maybe just dueling as well like 1v1 wizard battles. Not a big fan of online but when implemented well could be great. But i am beyond happy that this is a no BS single player game and everyone is saying it’s GOOD !

As an oldschool Skyrim/Fallout Modder, I can tell you this game is going to be a classic like those games one day! Its already getting a good modding community and the game is just so rich and gorgeous - people are going to be playing this game for years and years!

As of right now. This game is game if the year. I’m not a super big Harry Potter fan but I can’t get enough of it. I keep catching little lore Easter eggs and seeing places from the books. The gameplay feels fun and I see myself playing this for a while. The spell casting is fun but the spell swap is a little annoying. Over all this game is 100% worth the buy
PVP of quidditch where each team is made up of seven players, consisting of three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper and one Seeker. The job of the Chasers is to keep possession of the scarlet Quaffle, a leather ball passed between fellow chasers. They must attempt to score goals (worth 10 points) by throwing it through one of the opponents' three hoops.
I actually am not a Harry Potter fan, but I preordered this. I have to say it is a very well written game. I'm having so much fun with the magic and the ancient magic and it's beautiful at times. Every other games has been pushed to the side. Don't regret buying it at all.

I can't believe it... But this is the most fun I'm having with an rpg with since Witcher 3. And it is very close to w3 in design too. And it's an HP game that does it. Wild.
The ONE complaint I have about the game... They should add a filter option in the map. I was trying to do a 100% achievement run and I missed a single side quest. It sucks because I don't know where I skipped it and I have to do an entire completionist run again just for 1 stupid side quest... The rest of the game is amazing tho!
To imagine Wired tried to rate this game at nothing but 1 of 10. But they didn't actually include anything about the game that suggested they really "Tried it". And even what they wrote seemed inherently false compared to what people see people enjoying on Twitch and youtube. But then, their purpose was to bash J.K. for not agreeing with degeneracy.

Nothing that broke the game, which was great. We never got stuck because of a bug. I will say the menus lend themselves to a mouse and keyboard, and even combat does, to a degree, but I'm still torn between K/B and a controller. I did notice a few frame drops here and there, but it's really hard to tell if that was because I was also recording. Also, the load times moving into different sections were pretty quick on my rig, but your performance is going to vary there.
Never was really able to become interested in the movies, I tried but maybe the game will be different...this looks like an incrediblely rich vibrant world.
I’ve already completed 80% of the game and the open world stuff, lemme just say saviour that prologue and the first like 10 hours after it coz experiencing it all for the first time is truly magical and getting used to the world while it feels amazing you do miss experiencing it all for the first time
How can you put 80 hours and still have not finished the game? I played for 25 hours and have completed the game and side quests (75% of the tasks completed). Do not believe everything you read guys, if you don't plan to do all the little trials and collectables the game is barely 20 hours long. Also the story isn't nothing new or amazingly written and the enemies are really poor, there are literally only 4 types of enemies (humans, spiders, trolls, and goblins). Overall the game is good, but nothing big like other open world games. It has a good world, but you can barely interact with it. In my opinion the game falls a bit short in terms of content and story telling and for me it's clearly under some games like Elden Ring, RDR2, The Witcher... I would rank it a 7/10
As someone who's been putting his hours into Elden Ring with no end in sight, I must admit, Hogwart's Legacy is ridiculously good, and it's kinda difficult having to choose between playing ER and HL. Good going to the developers.
I'm concerned with the performance vs fidelity modes, have seen screenshots where lighting effects are completely removed with performance mode on, notably the library. I can't stand 30 fps on consoles
Game of the century for me. And I play a lot of games. It's just so freaking awesome all around. Small things I'd love to see improved, but they're minor at worst. What an amazing game :)

I've read that this game won't be considered canon. Do you think, since this game is obviously going to be a huge success, and will most likely result in sequels and/or prequels, it will eventually be pulled into the canon of the Harry Potter world? It would be pretty awesome to get a sequel to this game that is closer to the Harry Potter timeline and possibly to go more in depth with the story of Voldemort, or Dumbledore, or something like that... I don't even know, has Rowling already written all the history of her Wizarding World canon, kind of like Tolkien did with LOTR, leaving no room for "new canon"...???
Im at 7:09 as a potter-world bystander thinking, this is the soul and breath that Witcher 3 never had in its brute-simplicity seeming all so boring and done before. Not just Witcher, but so many other games I never even bothered to grab to date since the graphics engine revolution of early 2000's.
I started paying yesterday, I'm at 4 hours and feel I just started. I was walking down the hall and heard a mom admonishing a kid, turned around and saw a howler. That brought the widest, happiest, more sincere smile to my face.
I would love to see this universe in an mmorpg setting with all the schools around the world, all the plane of existence, different races and creatures, potential bosses amd storyline, quidditch, wizard touneys. There's so much potential if they decide to do it and do it right.
I hit level 25, and I just feel a bit overwhelmed and burdened with all there is to do. I felt the same was with god of war ragnorok, assassins creed, ghost of tsushima... maybe I've just outgrown the genre... I kind of just want to focus on the story and stop with all the side quests, spells, collectables, etc. Feels like a waste of time, and frankly I lose the immersion because it feels like work. I already have plenty of responsibility in real life, I don't want to have to grind in games anymore I guess. Anyone else feel the same way?
I'm 32 hours in, and yeah he nails it spot on. Everything he mentioned that is not the biggest "I have to tell any and everyone about this system" is true. Flying definitely is different than other games. Transmog for appearance is like World of Warcraft, if you can wear it, you can mog it. The world itself makes you forget about anything. And yes, your level will NEVER matter because you will be exploring. My 2 biggest issues though. The acting/voice acting does seem a bit lacking though. It seems like the voice actors weren't really that great. And I think on a second play through, or even third, you would kind of reach level issues as you would feel like you've explored it all. Overall, I do think this is probably, next to Elden Ring, one of the best games there is. Bill Clinton 2.0
I will be honest I was expecting a bit more potions and maybe Ollivander having some more to show like upgrades that the broomstick shop's shopkeep has and makes ya do quests to unlock. Regardless, the game is beautiful and very immersive. I love seeing the interactions between students and the story is great. Most of the caves I find are frequently either the same looking or very similar and are small but caves like the Jackdaw are pretty large and inviting. So many spiders...
The castle is too empty at night. Not to mention there’s no prefects at night to stop you from leaving. Sneaking around hogwarts is a must. Also, not being to sit on the thousands on chairs and couches in the game is nuts. As is not being able to sleep in a bed. Come on.
It was super odd that there are two quests that feature a stealth detection system and then magically, nope, just back to normal. I think it was cut content

Biggest thing I would say could use improvement is the cutscenes when you’re talking to natty, Sebastian, etc are all very plain, wish they would’ve had the characters moving and doing something in them
Who would have guessed if you put love and care into your game, people will still support it to the very end despite it's having lots of issues. Those aren't important if the overall experience is good enough. The fact that this is not the best version it could be still baffle me how much better it can still be, maybe they can even milk it in the sequel, as long as they keep the same quality of design.

I was worried that I would be disappointed, but happily, I am really enjoying the game, and I am taking it slow. I stop and check out every little detail.

While this is a fantastic review, there is few important details left out for PC players that would have been nice to see or know. Like game/graphic settings, keyboard layout and how it felt, one other detail which might change their opinion is the day 1 patch/es for better or worse. But all in all I am eager to get my hands on this game more after watching this.

can one easily walk in HL or does one have to hold the perfect stick balance between standing and running? is there a walk or run toggle (not talking about sprint?)

man. I was worried that some doors in the castle were just cosmetics. but NO, it is really every single freaking door can be opened and there is something behind it worth to be explored
@@xDomglmao I FINALLY found a door that can't be opened. There is a house in Hogsmead that is barred shut and can't be opened, no locks or anything. I'm not even upset, it's literally the only one I found. I actually got excited like it was an accomplishment that I found it. lol
The room of requirement absolutely sold me on this game alone, I'm pumped for any DLC they might add to the game. Side note though I have come across some bugs, most just kinda funny but a horrible one dropped frames to like 3fps during combat, very oof. 😂
