this feels alot like us! we dont use acc often however we do have one selectively mute little alter while in headspace their being taught to use picture cards with words on them (we used flashcards alot as a kid). we really only use acc during meltdowns because we tend to just say angry things without knowing what were saying.

I can talk but rarely do, it is so difficult and stressful. I use Proloquo, picture cards & a bit of signing. I could use text AAC but it is too easy and I overshare so only use that with people I know. using symbols acts as a buffer and helps me to regulate what I say. I am selective mute - thats not very selective. Am I autistic? not certain but I definitely have some traits. Everyone seems to think you are deaf and dumb as you do not talk and sign a bit.

@@Paul-s3m8m I fully relate! Selective mutism just means it happens in certain situations not that you choose to people have criticized the wording. For me it is selective since I strongly prefer not to speak verbally when I have meltdowns since I end up saying random angry words that I don't even understand how they came out.
