Zach Johnson, the “Millennial Farmer” is a 5th-generation farmer who’s spent his life growing, working, and learning on his family’s farm. His wit and dry sense of humor appeal to children and adults alike. A product of the millennial generation, his appreciation of new technology blends with his old-fashioned work ethic, and he offers a unique ability to deliver his message in a way that resonates with lifelong farmers as well as those with no knowledge of agriculture. With growing consumer awareness about where their food comes from, Zach has identified the need for an independent voice from the front lines of agriculture. Zach actively promotes agriculture by sharing his day-to-day experiences in the agriculture world while providing farmer-to-farmer education to help facilitate a collaborative conversation between farmers and the public.

When blocking under the trailer dollies you should place the blocking lengthwise with the trailer. That way if you back under and the trailer has sunk a little, you won't push it off the blocks with the semi tractor. Been there, done that, and it's not fun trying to crank the trailer up high enough to get the tractor under it.

One of the easiest ways to get into the axle on a semi you need to tug out is turn the wheels out and reach down. It’s how I do it when the snow is on the ground. An old heavy wrecker driver showed it to me when I was learning heavy.

What Jim is calling actuators are actually slack adjusters. If you know that one brake will hang up put the caging bolt in to lock that brake in the off position. The other 3 brakes should hold the trailer from rolling on you. We never had that problem because none of our trailers had maxis. If the caging bolt isn’t on the back of the maxi you can get one from your local NAPA or truck parts store.

You need to watch some Matt's off-road recovery videos to see what those yankum ropes can really do. After seeing what he can pull out with an XJ Jeep your ranger would have been able to pull your truck out with no problem. Back up about 10 to 15 ft and give her the juice. Let the kinetic energy of the rope do the work.

Doesn't matter where you are, those are Spades. Points have no side blade or chisel, sweeps are long side blades mounted on shanks behind points/disks. Spades and sweeps are all "shares" A chisel is a heavy hardened plate on the shank for breaking up hardpack or soft rock like sandstone. So you can have a chisel and sweeps on one shank to make something that works like a spade but what you have there is a spade which is a shallow grubbing tool head. There's like a vocabulary page for all of it.

A wise man once told me when dropping trailers, set your trailer brakes and back up to take pressure off the lock jaws, get both legs on the ground, release the lock jaws, and then dump the air on the truck to set the trailer on the legs, and then pull out. That way when you re-hook to the trailer, you just need to back in and everything should already be the right height.

It’s a lot easier to plant plots with our case planter. The only thing we have to do is turn off bulk fill or center fill and you can plant. We don’t have to add extension or put plugs on.

Thanks for another great video Zach. It was interesting for sure with planting going on. You asked about duals on the sprayer. To me, the thing to do with all the mud and wet spots. You are going to need those duals this year by my judgement. Got them on anyway. Truck and trailer stuck. No wonder with the rain and storm that rolled thru. The handy dandy rope did the job once again. Those are the best product ever. Planting. Well, not too bad but you had some problems. This test plot thing. Sorry, but you have me totally confused completely. Wow. Assume you are doing this for you seed corn company???? But you got me lost changing those Boxes. Oh well, getting old is tough. You are getting planting down to the wire-ya!!!!!! The old moline started good to pull the semi out. Good stuff. About it I guess. Trust your fertilizer truck will show in the morning so you can get moving with the planter. Good going Zach and Jim and Dad. Good to see Jim again. Good guy there you have for help. That extra hand is so good to have. All for now. I will be quiet for a change. You all take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. Appreciate this good run of videos. Thanks for everything and the filming. Thanks too Becky for editing. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

Your camera angles are always appreciated! I've never done videos for RU-vid, but I have dome some video production and I understand how much work it takes to keep moving cameras around and all the time to edit. You and Becky do an amazing job! The joke about being voted "mostly likely to make tractor videos'" was good, then I went, wait, RU-vid didn't exist when I was in high school and I think you're a little older than I! Thanks again for the great content!

When I get depressed at all his nice stuff, at least i have a sprayer as nice as he does. Maybe fun things happen to wheel motors. Maybe its ok

Cage the brake that sticks on the sprayer trailer when you park it at the end of the season so it doesn't stick. Make sure to chock the tires, and to uncage it before you take it on the road. There should be a Caging Bolt with a T head on the side of each parking brake pod. The T head goes into the hole in the center of the brake can (pop the rubber plug out), and then you turn it a quarter turn at the bottom of the hole to lock it in. You don't need to tighten the nut, just insert it with the trailer brakes released, and turn the nut down so it's barely touching, and when you apply the brakes it will keep the spring from putting pressure on the brakes. Install the cage bolts on whichever brakes stick every year in the shop, and then park the trailer, and in the spring take it back to the shop to remove the bolt, so no crawling in the mud! As long as you aren't parked on a slope, having one or two wheels with no parking brake is not a problem, especially if you throw some chocks behind the tire to remind you to un cage them in the spring! Lol

when they where working on the trailer brakes i was menatally yelling "just cage the brakes and move it off the grass" but the only reason i even know its a thing is i watch truckin channels to 😁

@@thedragonhunter in this video, caging the brakes wouldn't have helped though. The spring brakes were releasing, and the slack adjusters and thus cams were moving, so it was the brake pads basically corroded onto the drum that was locking the wheels. Caging the brakes just compresses the parking brake spring, and does the same thing the air does, it doesn't force the pads off the drum, only the return spring does that. So yes, when the brake pads are frozen to the drum like that, hammers and pry bars are the only way to break it loose, they were doing everything correctly (diesel/industrial mechanic and heavy haul driver here, with plenty of experience with these things! Lol) The suggestion of caging the brakes was to prevent them from getting corroded to the drum over the winter, by simply keeping them from touching the drum after it was parked.
@davecramer9725
@davecramer9725 2 года назад
If it was caged the brakes would not have been touching the brake drum
@ke6gwf
@ke6gwf 2 года назад
@@davecramer9725 once the brake shoes are rusted to the drum, caging the brake chamber has no effect. The cam that applies the pressure to the shoes backs off, but it doesn't pull the shoes away from the drum. The only thing pulling the shoes away from the drum is the small return spring, which is no match for the corrosion. My suggestion is to cage the brakes before parking it over the winter so they don't corrode onto the drum, but that's the only scenario where caging the brakes would help in this situation, because applying air pressure to release the spring brakes does exactly the same thing as caging the brakes, and that part was working properly in this video.

Why didn't you use the fork lift on the tires, Larson farms did it with their fork lift using the skid steer.

Zach have you tried the high productivity sweeps (Dad calls them shovels) that Deere sells? We've been really happy with them, they last longer and do a better job I think. They are wider than the standards you are running.
