Emma, when it becomes time to put the mattress back in, use 3 long ratchet straps to fold it in half long ways. Release the straps after it is back in place.
@chaosplan

I was thinking the same thing, giant hot dog bun. Or use seatbelt webbing and buckles. They can double duty to hold mattress up when working on the under bed systems. Straps mounted under mattress latch to buckles on the ceiling.

Sugestion, invest in a book 📖 on table saw usage. What you don't know is going to get you hurt. Never try ro cross cut a long board by holding it against the fence. Please get instructions.

Hey Emma! First-time commenter, long-time lurker! I noticed only one other person say it, so I wanted to be sure to echo it as well. Ventilation underneath your mattress is very, very important! My partner and I purchased a converted shuttle bus (before redoing the entire build) and noticed our mattress was getting moldy very quickly. Please make sure you have proper ventilation under your mattress, for your healths sake. Glad you're back and hope you had a lovely trip.
@tedpreston4155
@tedpreston4155 Год назад
Shana, I'm curious whether your mold problem resulted from high humidity where you live. Like Emma, I live in the Rocky Mountain west, which is very, very dry. For many years I traveled in a Volkswagen camper, and there was no ventilation under the mattress at all. I never experienced any mold or moisture problems. I have plenty of ventilation under my current mattress in my van, but I'm not sure it matters here in a desert climate.
@jdsquared
@jdsquared Год назад
@@tedpreston4155 I live in the deep south, have a plywood platform for my bed and I haven't had a problem yet. I hear this said, like I hear about condensation problems, so I don't know what I did wrong, but it works lol.

Great to see you back. You are already using a cordless Ridgid drill, pick up a 18 gauge cordless brad nailer and the batteries will be interchangeable. Take care :)

Emma, you need to make yourself a straight edge guide for you hand circular saw. It's extremely easy. Get an alluminum flat bar of 6mm long as you need, drill some holes, screw it on some thin plywood and then cut it along the bar with the hand circular saw, making sure it's on the largest part of the saw's shoe (in your case the left). It will save you a world of frustration... The newly cut edge is your straight edge, which you align to your marks and you'll be spot on every single time. Even better if you glue on the underside a thin strip of rubber close to lengthwise edges, just to make it more stable. 😉 The best is to help yourself in the simplest way possible. I still admire your inpiration and devotion to accomplish your endeavour. Go,Emma, go! 👍

Invest in a finish nailer that does the 3/4"-2-21/2" nails (2 n1 nailer) how about a smaller portable compressor for the bus. For inflating scooter tires,water board etc. Blowing out the bus..you'll have that nailer for a very long time, so invest in quality not quantity ;)

*tip* run 2 ratchet straps under n over the mattress on both ends, cinch tight and start ratcheting, bends the mattress in half to move easier. Hope that helps for future Emma ;)

Since you're going for a platform, consider getting a moisture barrier for under your mattress (like a Hypervent Aire-Flow) or drill some holes for airflow to avoid condensation that can cause mold/mildew in a space like yours

Kind of late at this point, but ratchet straps really help to move foam mattresses. I folded mine nearly in half and kept it in place while moving with them, and they made great handles. Separately, some people suggest against a solid bed frame because it lacks airflow and can increase chances of mold, mildew, etc depending on your humidity. Having the slats connected to a larger frame, and being able to lift the frame (and mattress) with a removable ceiling pully could work.

Stick with air for the brad nailer, the home depot Ridgid brand is the best. A cheap electric brad nailer WILL be crap, if you do go that way the Milwaukee 18g fuel is the only one to get. As for plywood for the bed deck... drill lots of 1' or 1 1/2" holes in the plywood for it to breathe or you will get mold. Lay out the holes so that when you flip your mattress the area that was over the hole at one end is NOT over a hole when flip to the opposite side. Just my 2c.

Hey Emma, Electric brad nailer will work fine. Just keep these tools lubricated and they will last decades. You don't need to break the bank on tools meant for people that do this professionally. On your cuts, I can't say this enough and I know it's a bother but you have to have a secure the boards on a level surface. Also, if you are looking for precision you need guides and use that clamp that you had sitting on the table to secure the piece your cutting. You are doing great though. Keep it up.

You are funny and I love that !!... your videos makes me smile ,thanks!... get a small compressor no need to get a big one for brad nails, electric ones are good too but if you already invested in pneumatic a small harbor freight for $50 bucks and about 10lbs will have steady power ... $50 against $150 for something you only need for few nails and then put away... just my take on getting more tools that will do the same work regardless. Good luck.

Just to echo the comments of BeartrapKara…the Ryobi 18v air nailer is an excellent alternative to the air gun. No tank and hose to lug around. And the various size of nails make it a great trim and pin nailer. Have owned one for 3 years now, love it. Also great to tack boards in place so your able to screw them in to their final position.

You’re just the best person to see before my weekend starts. You have the superpower to lift one’s spirit three or for levels higher. As Dolly sang “your smile is like a breath of spring” and we saw lots of beautiful smiles in this video. So you made sure that spring will be here very soon. I think your plan to do it slower and more careful could work. And a table saw is frightening for sure. In short, you made my day as always. Keep up the good work and see you again soon. 👋🇳🇱
