Just this past May (2022) I had the enormous pleasure of catching Jason’s cabaret show in St. Louis (his hometown by the way and are we proud!). His reminisces of life with his exquisite late wife were just as poignant and heart grabbing as you can imagine. He shared with the audience that after a long interval, he has found a serious new love. HOORAY HOORAY HOORAY for LOVE!
I wish I could state accolades about this great performance but I’m just thinking about Miss Marin. What a loss. She really remains an American icon and treasure. You are always going to be a legend and loved. Nobody interpreted like she could.
I met them outside the Pasadena Playhouse after their performance in "110 in the Shade", standing at the stage door with my 90-year-old grandmother. 2004. Unfortunately, Jason Danieley wouldn't let Marin stop for a second to hear any compliments. He was not very good as Starbuck and he knew it. She was fantastic as Lizzie, of course. He kept hold of her arm and didn't stop moving, basically dragging her away as she tried to be nice. Kinda set my mind against him ever since, a**ho*e.
@@jgregveneklasen2657 One never knows what anyone is going through on any particular day - but I understand how you feel. A pity it happened that way. Best wishes from Ireland.
According to Sondheim, Richard Rodgers loved these lyrics when he first heard them. When Rodgers showed them to his wife, she had a fit because she thought Sondheim was writing about their marriage! Next day, Sondheim was told by Richard Rodgers to write a new set of lyrics which are the watered down version that wound up in the show.
Ah, Jason and Marin, such an unreasonably talented, charming, beautiful and glamorous couple; so grateful to have been able to see them perform together as the husband and wife in 'Next to Normal'. I don't know how he wasn't cast against her in 'Kiss Me Kate', but maybe he had a conflict, or maybe the Fred Graham role is out of his vocal range? Anyway, we miss you, Marin.
The 1976 London version from "Side by Side by Sondheim", is also excellent and the version that first popularized this song worthy also of the great lyricist Lorenz Hart.
Jason Danieley: Honeybunch, Sad to say, but I have a hunch, Screen romances went out to lunch, That's no reason to pout. Don't look bleak, Happy endings can spring a leak, "Ever after" can mean one week, We're just having a drought. Smile and sweat it out. If we can just hang on, We'll have compatability. No need to worry, We're gonna be all right. One day the ache is gone, There's nothing like senility. So what's your hurry? We're gonna be all right. Meanwhile, relax! I'll take a lover, you take a lover. When that's played out, They get the axe, We can retire, Sit by the fire, Fade out. We'll build our house upon The rock of my verility. Better scurry, We're gonna be all night, Oh, boy! We're gonna be all right. Marin Mazzie: I was told "Just be faithful and never scold," Sounded easy, so I was sold. I've been miserable since. Don't you mean it could be an Oscar Hammerstein and Richard Rogers musical? Hammerstein being Stevie's mentor. Of course Sondheim's work is affected by the greatest team ever to put a show on Broadway, 20th and so far, 21st centuries. ;-). Marin, for me, is equities. My favorite mezzo soprano to ever grace Broadway.
