The first step in building our dream home on our farm in Portugal is almost here, and we thought it was high time we answered all of your burning questions about what 2024 has in store for us here on the farm as we gear up for our biggest project ever - building our dream home, from the ground up.

Happy New year, Newbies. Building a house in europe south takes lots of time. If you where rich, no problem soon solved. But, if you have to go day by day, looking for money it takes even more time. Those "small" projekts like a hobbithouse etc are FUN doing and quickly finished. So, why not. John, Tara, do as you like. And asking if you are planning another baby is so indiscret!!! All I do is keep on watching and being curious how it all comes along. You are awesome and I love you!!!😊

Welcome to 2024! Thanks for you! Love the flash backs and the Q & A. I'm amazed that you believe you'll get planning permission so quickly. But I guess your architect has some of that under control. I'm a bit nervous for you re your own project management. How's your Portugese coming along? And will you be able to get all those contractors in the right time frame? I've been a watcher of Grand Designs with Kevin McCloud for many years. Although I don't think he's ever followed a project in Portugal, I imagine the pitfalls of self building have some universal elements. Maybe you should try and get yourselves on to that show?! In the mean time, enjoy your travels and may your plans work out as well as possible in 2024. Looking forward to keep following along. Best wishes to your whole and extended family.🎉

I love the recap videos - can't believe it's episode 90 though! Wow! Oh, thank goodness the kitchen will survive the mega project! It is far too beautiful to become skip fodder! It seems to me that you have started each project when it was needed to be started. There are very few things in life that have a guaranteed to the second end point, because there are always things that crop up, so rather than sitting and moping because job A has come to a halt because of xyz, you start job B until you can go back to job A again, and I think that echoes the fluidity of Nature itself and so works perfectly with The Farm. It's a bit obvious I'm late watching your last few videos after the festivities, so here I am wishing you a Happy New Year again! Lol! *Hugs * to you all! xx

Hello Newby's... me again. Ideas for the treehouse... there is a park in Bay Lake, Florida called Swiss Family Treehouse. You said you wanted to come to America. There are lots of photos of Disney World's Swiss family Robinson treehouse. All three of the boys would be bonkers.

I so wish you could have Trent & Allie as guests.. I can just see Trent. Daredevil and Adventurer together…. You both can an do tackle anything, free spirit, an so much could be learned from each! @@TheNewbys hi Newbys. Hope you all are having a great time in India. After a very long PhD journey, I have finally submitted my thesis and am traveling after 5 years or so. Started the travels with Maldives and planning next trips. Hence haven't been able to comment lately but I'm loving catching up on your videos! 😊😊 Just need to say 1 thing. I have earlier too read comments of people asking you to meet up with Trent and Allie. While that's cool, I think you should be aware that Trent has a criminal record. You can google 'Trent and Allie police case' and read up a bit. Not saying people don't change/improve but I think a family as lovely and precious as yours needs to be aware about this. Happy New Year, exciting times ahead. Can you not get planning permission for the extension so that it’s not a waste of effort? It’s a shame you have to knock down the one you are currently living in after the work that has gone into to make it habitable but i guess it’s to do with planning regs etc.

I'm glad you've taken your time and gotten to know your property before jumping in with both feet and doing something you may regret in the long term. As people who aren't there, we don't know all the ins and outs of the processes. I've watched enough youtube channels and tv shows of people building/renovating properties in Europe to know that it's probably not the easiest or fastest process. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in 2024. Happy New Year from Queensland where the weather has been going nuts from a cyclone that dumped over 2 metres of rain in places to storms with tornadoes and torrential rain and giant hail that have destroyed houses, crops, trees etc. All along the East Coast this christmas and new year won't be remembered fondly by a lot of people. I'm lucky so far in that where I live has escaped the worst of it.

That means John not doing anything but carpentry which hes brilliant at, that doesn't need signing off. I think you can do some elect but not alot. But you will really enjoy. We built our own home in 1990 and we did build it, but not the brickwork. I learnt roofing, plumbing, tiling, cemeting, plus my most proud thing was puttung in the cold water system in a 4 bed house. 😁 So proud. Its both of your turn now. I just hope you don't get ripped off in Portugal like we do in France, as a 3 year expat they look at us as a cash machine and we dont get a break. Its super expensive, even cutting 5 thin pine tree down they want 7500€, its a rip off. Good luck on learning so much more, and building maybe an extra bedroom on an ever growing family. maybe👨‍👨‍👧‍👦 Happy new year 🎄🎄
