As to Johnathon queerying why Tandem rounds aren't always the first choice by players in Squad, you have to manually rearm your weapons (including AT ammo) using ammo points. Tandem rounds cost signficantly more of these points than regular HEAT rounds, so they're more expensive to take from FOBs (player built, resuppliable spawn points) or from riflemen (a role in game where you have an ammo bag for portable ammo points to resupply from). This means that holding on to your tandem (you get one ammo of each type) until you either really need it or can make sure you hit your target is a good idea, because it could be a while before you can resupply one. It's typical tactics in Squad to use your HEAT round to destroy/damage the engine, wheels or tracks of your target and then, once its disabled, line up the tandem round with a weakspot and destroy the vehicle.
I was once an importer of the HK 417 for the Australian Army; I can confirm that it was never rebranded as F 417 and all markings were factory standard. The Australian Army keep all of their HK firearms as close to factory standard as possible for ease of parts replacement. The HK 417 is not just used in the SF as it is often distributed through units as Designated Marksman Rifles
Not anymore unfortunately, they've been removed from infantry sections and replaced with the standard EF88 with a harris bipod, which is a crying shame
@@ImperatorClass really? why? I've used the ef88 in the navy, and its a lot easier to use than the old f88s, but to replace a marksman rifle shooting 7.62??
@@ImperatorClass Taking way DMRs with a heavier longer-ranged round, and replacing them with rifles in the same caliber as the rest of the squad, is basically almost eliminating the existence of the Designated Marksmen role :/
Love all the Australian representation in this episode Always nice when we get our minute in the limelight behind the heavy hitters in the military world
I know this isn't a hundred percent on topic, but getting the FN 249 to run with casket mags was worth it for Marvel. Visually, it is a perfect balance between real and the kind of sci-fi blaster you'd see in 60's and 70's Marvel comics. It is a tactical gun who's favorite artist is Jack Kirby.
21:17 Infantry here, it's referred to as the M240B if it's one of the older models, however they introduced a lighter variant (otherwise practically identical) that's called the M240L, as well as a vehicle mounted version (with no stock, a cut grip, and a modified charging handle) called the M240C.
Love seeing an actual F88/EF88 in a game over the base AUG. As an aussie it's great to see our standard service rifle being depicted so nicely in a videogame.
Fun fact: The M3 Gustav ammunition selection in real life includes anything from illumination, smoke, airburst HE, confined-space munitions, and even the ADM401/FFV401: A canister round that fires 1,000 flechettes for area defense. These kind of munitions were used in artillery, tanks, and the M79 grenade launcher during Vietnam to saturate an overrun position with devastating effects on infantry.
and hot air balloons that you shoot at knocked out guys to recruit them, but motherbase has to be pretty built up so you only realistically get them late game
Hunt Showdown really deserves a second look from Jonathan! They fixed the reload animation for the Sparks and have added more historically interesting guns like the berthier
Hes on the Royal Armouries RU-vid channel, considering he's a museum curator and keeper of 1000s of firearms I imagine he doesn't have a lot of free time
In game each team only gets 2 ppl who can use the HAT class which has access to 1 tandem and 1 HEAT warhead, each squad gets access to up to 2 LATs, usually meaning there are about 5-10 of these classes on each team (dependent on layer). These classes only have access to HEAT rounds, along with fragmentation rounds for anti-personnel with some factions. Certain factions also give both classes smoke rounds but this is rare.
Another thing he missed is the fact that the SKS front sight is comically large when aiming down sights, AKM and AK-74 rifles also suffer this fate in the game but to a lesser degree
A reaction to the first Insegency's workshop guns would be fun. There is a CZ Scorpion Evo 3 I'd like to hear his opinion on as I also own the gun irl and typically don't see it too much in games.
I wish they'd also do a review on the guns from Squad's older brother ,Project Reality, even if the models look dated and the game engine itself is old its still just as harsh as squad, still being updated and theres still a loyal playerbase. Theres even WW2 , Vietnam, Falkands, Chechen-Russian conflict, Gaza, and Syria maps in PR and more factions than Squad
One thing makes me chuckle, owning an sks and having two friends that own them (in Canada, like can’t throw a rock in avg gun store without one of those or a lee enfield, surplus dumping of those is real here 😂), like…don’t have feed one round at a time…just push stripper clip till it’s full, and rip out remaining clip/its rounds. But ya, I dunno, guess devs never really used one before. Part of that too, like gonna have stripper clips…in order to feed one at a time…gotta unclip them…which adds soooo much more time to your reload in reality than just forcing the stripper in, and pulling it out with rounds left on.
The problem with bipods, especially when the player is shooting prone, is how do you model the players fov. Because realistically, the player would not be able to turn without picking up the gun and putting it back down, so the field of aim would be so tight, that players would most likely just give up and don't do it
I'd love to see a future video on H3VR modded weapons- the modulAR and modulAK collections are a particular highlight with all the crazy customisation, but also Meatyceiver_2 (which introduces weapon jams), as well as vanilla H3VR features that weren't covered in the previous two videos that I think Jonathan would appreciate: tactical/retention reloads; reloading magazines with individual rounds including choosing the order of rounds (for e.g. you could have one mag full of tracers if you wanted, or alternating tracers and AP incendiary); using a shotgun to breach doors
Inverse kinematics is what you're looking for Jonathan. It's the math (maths because you're British. Pip pip, cheerio!) that figures out where a character's feet should go when they're standing on stairs, or with one foot on a slain enemy and the other on flat ground. If you're ever come to a stop in something like the Witcher 3 or Elder Scrolls Online, the character's feet will go to the default pose, and then slowly "float" to where they "should" go. Might be computationally expensive to do with bipod legs, but it'd work I believe : D
The updated Australian version of the F-88 became the original factory standard. The EF-88 is an upgrade from that. The F-90 is a further enhanced model. Oh the Minimi and Ramboing them: The Australian forces actually do exactly that. :P
i would love to see Jonathan react to Generation Zero, the guns are (from what i know) really well modeled and have great soundeffects. they also use a veriaty of ammo types
Game engines could do bipod legs accurately,. The tech is there, it's just a matter of ensuring accurate collision on surfaces. Something like a sandbag is probably using a box for collision, and the box is going to be as tall as the highest point, the top center of the sand piled on top. A game could use a simplified model instead, with proper angles to fit the surfaces, but the added complexity adds a decent performance loss as you start making all the collision tests using more complex geo.
i was a 240 gunner in the army for 2 years and you can accurately hipfire at around 75m and shoulder fire up 200-250m. the machine gun isnt that heavy and if anything the weight reduces the recoil enough to make it manageable
I have got to fire a SKS with wooden furnishing. And load it with the stripper clip and one at a time. Though I had to get used to the 7.62 round of it as it has been some time since I last fired the Kalashnikov round.
Can I request a series where Johnathan actually get to play games that he watches? Just curious as to how he would react to the 'feeling' of the weapons
it would be fantastic to see a round 3 of squad weapons with mr jonny. there now is the vdv, the chineese and you cant forget the usmc! i would like to see the ak12, m27 iar, and i dont know if they have any but some combat engineer toys like mines and c4 and things would be sweet! plus his veiw on ICO gameplay!!! oo oo ooo yeah!!!
Jonathan should react to Generation Zero's weapons, might be interesting for him especially with the Experimental Weapons and the new Resistance DLC weapons.
My machine gunner carried a MK 48 in Afghanistan and he loved it. It was way easier to employ than the M240B, especially off bipod. Which was lovely I'm the mountains.
In response to the comment of the gun looking floaty, it's probably just rendered as an image on top of what you see, you can tell by running into a wall. If the barrel goes in, it can have the non floaty style. If your character's face is in it but you see the entire gun, separate image
Every game that has the HK416/417 calls it something else because of copyright. Usually just swapping out the HK with another letter like M or dropping the letters altogether.
Try heroes and generals. Some pretty good old guns and vehicles. Also their bipod works in the way he mentioned. The bipod like locks into place whatever object is allowed and then you can pivot
Throwing in my vote again for a look at Post Scriptum! Would be another good look at a "realism" based series! I always felt the sound design in PS was out of control good, while there's a lot of walking simulator gameplay, when firefights break out you really feel like you're in the thick of it.
Somebody tell Jonathan that RPD doesn't have disintegrating belt. SQUAS devs depict it incorrectly. In reality it has a non-disintegrating belt much like the RPK.
It's so nice to see game developers paying attention to little details, like the reloading of the SKS. We've come so far from the original Medal of Honor games.
And in some ways we've also gotten worse. The M1 Garand in Medal of Honor Allied Assault was more realistic than the M1 in Call of Duty WW2 or Vanguard.
I would like to see Johnathon review war thunder and talk most of the different caliber types from both tanks or planes and warships. from the small arms Machine guns on armored cars and tanks to the massive 14-inch guns on warships
One thing these "realistic" shooters tend to miss is the team nature of weapons like the FN mag and shoulder launchers. They are very often used with two people, one shooter and one ammo carrier/reloader. Its done for more accsesible traditional gameplay though, so i get why its like that.
I'm pretty sure the unreleased "team fortress 2: brotherhood of arms" was going to have a feature where 2 players could operate a machine gun at the same time.
Things we Americans take for granted and don’t realize.. #1 it’s not easy for people in certain country’s to get weapons. #2 going to the store and picking up military grade weapons. Not so easy elsewhere hahahah.. (Granted most weapons you can’t just go and buy instantly here lol). Even tho there’s a lot that you can :). It’s just weird to think like in the UK you can’t go to the walmart or whatever they have there and buy weapons and ammo lol just it’s weird and interesting and kinda cool. When you stop and think it’s cool to see the differences. Most Americans don’t do that stop and ummm what’s the word again? Oh think! Lol jk i love my country
Id love to see another look at insurgency: sandstorm, where they show actual firearms people use instead of just grabbing the stuff from the ww2 update to get a reaction
Jonathan might get surprised to ravenfield's workshop community weapons and its wacky secret weapons, and i would like to see him react to the in game weapons and its mod packs
The reload on the FN MAG isn’t that accurate, you have to kinda hold the belt in place with your pinky finger and close the cover on it, it’s kinda scary at the start because you feel like you will smash your finger when you close it, but there’s a big enough gap, I’m a year and 8 months into my service in the IDF and I’ve never seen a belt just lay there waiting for you to close the cover, there are MGs like the IWI Negev (LMG) that have “teeth” that the first round of the belt can hold onto
If there’s a games series with weapons that I’d like to see John rip into, it’d by the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. franchise, particularly Clear Sky or Call of Pripyat as they include the weapons cut from Shadow of Chernobyl. I’d love to see his reaction on them some day
