It really does matter.....each track of theirs is different. They had a wide range of musical tastes, interests and styles. And frankly, some songs come off better than others. They say so themselves.

Drummer John Bonham is arguably considered one of the top two or three drummers in Rock history. Likewise Jimmy Page as lead guitar, and Robert Plant as lead singer. John Paul Jones (JPJ) is an unsung hero in the band. He is a musical genius in his own right, playing piano, keyboard, melatron, base guitar, and mandolin.

The thing that most people don't realize about Zeppelin, and John Bonham, was that they were the first to bring the drums up as a major part of the mix. Other bands wouldn't hire Bonham because he hit the drums so hard, but Jimmy Page embraced it and used it to create the greatest rock band ever assembled. There have been many imitators, but never a band that could equal the sound and originality of the Mighty Zep.

This actually comes from the album "Presence" and has a combination of influences. It basically tells the story of trips Jimmy and Robert took to Morocco and other places. There's a bit of William Blake's poetry when he mentions Albion. "Albion" used to be a poetic way to describe Britain. The "mighty arms of Atlas" refer both to the mythology of Atlas holding the world on his shoulders, as well as the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. This song is intense. I consider it the last of their "Epics" along with Stairway and Kashmir. Jimmy had 6 guitar tracks and managed to assemble and complete the entire song in one night. The album as a whole was completed in 18 days; the fastest they'd worked since their debut album. The staccato drumming sounds like a machine gun and John Paul Jones' galloping bass line imply swift, anxious movement. Ann and Nancy Wilson from Heart readily admit they stole the bass line for their song Barracuda. Robert tells a story about a time he had a friend over to visit and while they chatted, he had music playing. At one point, he stepped out of the room and shortly thereafter, his guest came looking for him and told him they didn't want to be in the room alone anymore because the music playing was too intense. Intrigued, Robert came back to the room and the song playing was Achilles. There were a lot of changes going on during the making of Presence; new musical genres like punk were threatening to overthrow bands like Zeppelin's relevance, Robert was rethinking the band dynamics and his place in it as well as his life's path in general. He didn't want to be away from his family during the accident's aftermath and was angry at both Peter and Jimmy and felt they were unsympathetic. Presence is massively underrated; it's very stripped down and is full of intensity, anxiety, anger, pain, - a lot of difficult emotions.

@ronaldelliott4373 5 месяцев назад
Hey Henrie, (Ron here) good to catch up with you once again. Couldn’t agree more with your summation of events and Robert’s feelings during this period. Have heard Robert give more clarity to this period than others. (Of course that could simply be my radar not working more frequently at other times) I remember buying this the day it was available and having to play this one over and over for my younger brother. Still his favorite all these yrs later. While lacking in popularity by some, I really loved this project and felt they still knew they had more to give. Be well, and best wishes to you and yours.

Robert has said that he was in awe of the talent of the other three when they were doing this song, calling it magnificent. And it is. His vocals are not as strong but keep in mind he was singing from a wheelchair. The story goes that he was so excited that he got through the song that he stood up in exaltation and promptly fell down. Everyone was horror struck, thinking he might if rebroken his ankle. Thankfully, he was Ok. But that injury dies bother him at times to this day. .

Now you have realised about john Bonham on the drums its the moment to do Moby Dick - the live performance at Earls court 1975 which is essentially a drum solo and vehicle for displaying his techniques . Once you've seen that you will be able to better pick out what he does in other tracks you come onto - masterclass in drumming. Love your reactions to this its so great to see people who really get this and are so enthusiastic. Don't worry you are not going to run out of amazing music and you haven't heard anything until you've done dazed and confused. That is really one you need to do the studio then the live otherwise you will never understand what is going on .

Ironically Plant & his family’s car happened on vacation in Greece, his wife Maureen was driving. Pages daughter was with them, & Roberts son & daughter, thankfully the kids weren’t seriously injured. Maureen had a skull fracture & other injuries, & Robert his leg & other injuries. The band was on a deadline to get their album Presence done, & the whole album was recorded with Plant in a wheelchair. What was really sad, there was some issue with taxes, & they had to record the album in California. While both injured so badly, Robert wasn’t home with his family, like he wanted to be. Yes he was in a wheelchair for about a year, not knowing if he’d walk again. The song Tea For One off the same album, is a slow Blues song, about Robert missing his family & is great.

Zep have the most diverse and surprising catalogue of songs you could ever find. There’s no “ typical” Zep style, except that almost all of it is awesome. I know this because I am 70 years old and I bought Led Zepoelin 1 in April 1969 with my birthday money. I was lucky enough to see them live in stage 4 times. They are still regarded as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. There are too many songs to suggest to you guys but maybe “ Dazed and Confused”, from their very first album ( recorded in autumn 1968 ). Great reaction and thank you both. Stay safe stay happy stay you. Best wishes from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

Let me preface this by saying Zep is my favorite band: Ween has a more diverse catalogue of songs, and it isn't even close. They put out a country album with legendary Nashville musicians, and another of their albums inspired the creation of Sponge Bob Square Pants. Zep was the best at what they did, and Ween was the best at taking what everyone else did and making it their own.

Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on RU-vid. 😀

Ok. As a Zep head for many years, I must reccommend that you review "The Song Remains The Same" and the "Rain Song" from live 1973 Madison Square Garden. Those songs go from one right into the next, yet are totally different. The concert is from the movie 'THE SONG REMAINS THE SAME". Some of the videos you already reviewed are from this movie.
