my english teacher was a huge metal head and made us do a project on sleep token which is how i found em and even did a challenge where we had to write a essay on the meaning of our favorite song and whoever had the best essay got to go on a field trip to a concert i won it was me and 2 other students best senior trip ever
Vessel is a genius when it comes to that. It was the same with "High Water", "Hypnosis", and "The Offering" ... dude knows how and when to belt a really pain filled scream to epitomize his art. "If I can... HOLD MYSELF TOGETHER" "And I am ALMOST UNDER" "TAKE A BITE" He knows how and when to use a fry scream appropriately and in context. As a result, we the audience can really connect with the pain of loss he's feeling.
It’s Vessel and II the drummer who make all of the music. III and IV are members too, but they just play the songs live from what I know of the band and arrangement. So that makes it even more incredible to me 🤘🏻🤘🏻 I want to see you guys react to THE OFFERING, by Sleep Token from their first album, ITS 🔥🔥
I have a hard time believing their guitarist isn't doing most of those insane screams on the recording. Vessel might have the ability, but I don't think he can do it like the guitarist. He is the one doing them on the live shows.
@@kklovn9192that's not true I think he just helps back up vessel at the live shows and if you watch some of the new live videos of vore you'll see that vessel does most of the screams. I personally think IV has been helping him very better at the screams and probably teaching him how to do it without fucking up his beautiful voice.
@@kklovn9192vessel is most likely whisper screaming when recording and boosting them on the track while learning to be able to do it love. Absolutely not a dig as it’s completely reasonable while he’s learning but the guitarist is definitely the one doing most of the over powering screams while vessel is getting the technical aspects of it correct. You can see it in some performances of higher
Another reactor said he found Vessel's voice to become grating and monotonous the more songs he heard off this album, he said he expected him to do more with his vocals. I was like geez he screams he growls he goes almost falsetto, he raps, he has that deep melodious richness in the rest of his singing...what else did this guy expect him to do?!
Eh,don't listen to those weirdos... those are the "music experts" of whom tend to be shitty and heavily biased because they're paid to talk shit pretty much.
I listened to the guy and I don’t think he articulated himself well..I think he meant that the “plummy’ tones don’t vary much and it’s mostly melancholic. Well duh, that’s his voice and style
I’m a vocalist and I’m addicted to Vessel’s dynamic voice! I think people who find it monotonous aren’t able to hear the many layers and changes in the music.
Album of the year. By a mile. Nothing else is this new, fresh, clever, creative, immense. Masterpiece front to back. The level of talent and out of the box mindset on display cones once in a generation...
The "you make me wish I could disappear" section is easily my favorite part of the song. It has so much power and feeling to it and never fails to give me goosebumps and bring a tear to my eye
Korn made harder songs than sleep token (text and tone) , but for me, they both are gods. So try light “Tearjerker”, “4U” and more heavy “Falling away from me”. Maybe you find something in this band.
@@jeremykarwoski6913 The Death Of Peace Of Mind? Yeah it was really great, probably my fav album from them, but I still prefer ST due to the sheer diversity of their music haha
Ok, I have a theory on this one: "Diamonds in the Trees" = Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) "Pentagrams in the Night Sky" = 5-HT1A and 5-HT2 receptors "You make me wish I could disappear" = psychedelic drug induced "ego death". Along with many other references throughout the song that could be psychedelic related (even the title). So in this song he recalls the time he did DMT with the girl that all their songs are about (the one that dumped him...ultimately that's what all 3 album are about) and it messed her up (even worse than she already was, and she was already a mess) so that's why in the next song she exhibits self harming behavior.
Nice! I would not be the least bit surprised if you were completely right. He loves writing in all that scientific stuff. “Cause I look for Scarlett and you look for ultraviolet” and all of Alkaline. So fricking cool!
Nice, Although the song "Are you really alright" is him talking to his past self. "DYWTYLM" is him talking to himself in a mirror. And while the trilogy references a very toxic relationship with someone he is heavily infatuated with who hurts him and he ultimately ends up leaving in the end, its all a metaphor for his past and life in general, not specifically a single person. Could be a collection of emotions and thoughts from multiple bad relationships and how he has to come to terms with his trauma, acceptance, and healing to move forward. There is a significant amount of word play, analogy, and metaphor in all of his lyrics, so it would seam to me that the whole trilogy is an analogy for something else. The lore is that all of the songs they make are an offering to the goddess Sleep, so that they may be blessed with rest and dreams rather than sleeplessness and waking nightmares.
One of the things that I absolutely love about this channel is that the two of you do not just listen to the music, you feel it. You take it in as an experience and ride the waves of it.
Just popping in with the correct lyrics in case nobody has done so ☺️ "Who encrypted your dark gospel in body language? Synapses snap back in blissful anguish Tell me you met me in past lives, past lie Past what might be eating me from the inside, darling Half algorithm, half deity Glitches in the code or gaps in a strange dream" also "blood stains on the collar, please just don't ask" ✨️ worship 🖤
LOL i was looking for this comment after I typed a whole thing about needing these lyrics to be correct because of the brilliance of a "digital demon". THANK YOU because i felt like my comment really rude hahaha. worship. 🖤⚔
I think its Vessel and the Drummer (II) who compose all the studio tracks, then for live performances they bring in their Electric (IV) and Bass (III) guitarists. I may be wrong, hopefully someone else can confirm this in comments too :)
I desperately think you need to listen to Rain by Sleep Token. It has such a delicate feel to me but still really powerful in the whole song. The way he says "coiled up like a venomous serpent" just hits different, and the high notes... melodic. :)
This one continues to blow me away. I’m not gonna be that guy by going into detail, but did anyone else catch the identity confirmation? Cause the man does not operate in coincidences.
Yes. Both in Ascensionism and Euclid. I was very surprised and confused as to the reason behind the confirmation. I actually have several songs by Vessel's previous band and was shocked by his revelation in this album.
I love how in the visualizer for the video the dude looks like he is falling. But the beam of light makes it seem like he is acending at the same time just like the name of the song and the feel of the song. Perfect 👌
So glad you guys are enjoying this! Definitely hope you check out the rest of the album, it is 100% solid! Trust me, as you guys dig more into them, Sleep token will definitely keep you on your toes.
Happened on your channel because I recently found Sleep Token, and I have been obsessing. I love your reactions, especially because you let most of the song play through with only short commentary in between, then you move on and wrap it all up at the end. By allowing most of a song to play through your viewers, especially anyone new to a group or artist, really get to experience the music without too much disruption. Thanks for your great reactions!
I'd say it wouldn't be over the top to say their lyrics are poetry-- the way its spoken, the waiting, the use of space to create meaning--- that is poetry. Music on top of it? there is a reason that so many of us get chills listening to so many of Sleep Token songs.
You gotta check out, "the offering", or "higher" next! So beautiful, its from their first album sundowning (2019) i go back too so often! Trust me even if you dont do reactions to them, i honestly think you need to check it out! your comment kyle about the music is like a walm blanket, this album i find really does the most for me! Their 2nd album this place will become your tomb, is an amazing album as well. All of sleep tokens music just has such raw, polished quality. Each song i feel so deeply like no other band has done for me. Ive also done drawings of their bass and guitarst (iii and iv) and they have actually seen it and liked it! Its means so much to me that a band that "hides their faces" can interact and move people, without even needing to say what their intentions are for their music! Seriously this band i just love so much, so glad your getting into them! Eric i recon you would love "dark signs" off the album sundowning. :)
Loving these reactions guys! You're quickly becoming my favourite music reaction channel and you guys reacting to Sleep Token, which is my favourite band right now, is so good. Don't see many people pointing this out, but I am absolutely obsessed with the key change at 11:08. It's hard to put into words, but if you listen through from the breakdown at 10:47, that key change just hits like a truck and makes that section of the song sound so grand and orchestral, like something out of a movie soundtrack. It's such a simple thing but every time I hear it when I listen to this song I get goosebumps.
I can't count how many times I've listened to this song and watched reactions to it and it just becomes more and more of a masterpiece. Great reaction guys. Instant Sub. Worship.
I also agree that if they would have repeated that rap section as another verse it would have been amazing to vibe out to that musically genius section, but there is a method to their madness. This was definitely and more genre-progressive track like TMBTE. Whatever their recipe, keep serving up the plates, Sleep Token, 'cuz I'm gobbling this sh*t UP!
what I absolutely love about Sleep Token and this album in general is that you never know what you're going to get and then they give you what you want AND something you never knew you wanted and they blend it together perfectly 😅
A song to check out is Bloodsport and the live version "from the room below and the covers he has done. The live ones are just pure emotion from his voice and absolutely heart wrenching. But Bloodsport is my new current favorite from their first album (deluxe album has the covers)
Sorry but you 2 threw me into their rabbit hole of a very dope discography they have. Can't wait for you to still get everything they have. This track in particular got me hooked and I still gravitate to it. 🔥😢😎💯
When I tell yall this is even better live I MEAN it. I had no idea someone could sound BETTER live and Vessel did just that. This song was a godly experience live and I’m not religious in the slightest. The goosebumps and chills and the way he sang the song with such raw emotion was so beyond anything I could comprehend. I seriously hope you guys get to see them live because it’s an entirely different types of experience
Love how the song goes from ballad with piano, rap break, to all out metal breakdown. So, so good. Their signature really! Every single song I am impressed by II's creativity in using the drum kit to write and perform. He uses digital drumming mixed with the full regular set up. He mixes RnB/hip hop beats with Metal and it's just sooooo good.
"You're going to watch me ascend" whomever that was towards he freaking showed you lol cuz this album launched them into outerspace. Ultimate revenge song.
Amazing reaction. I love your channel and I suggest Euclid, Aqua Regia for a mellow song, and The Offering - Vore if you want something heavy! Can't wait for more.
The apparition Dark signs Alkaline High water Rain Like that The night does not belong to god The offering Euclid Those are my suggestions and some of my favorites
This band if perfect for the two of you. The hip hop head gets all the lyricism you could ask for and of course the metal head get's a pleasant departure from the typical metal, but it's still there.
One of my favourites the lyrics hit you so hard. I totally get what Eric saying as an alternative metalhead that listens and appreciates different genres I love Typo Negative and Steel does have that depth to his music. Vessel is a lyrical god multi talented and always in tune with his inner self. Ps love watching you guys ❤
I can totally relate to you when you say "it didn't hurt me enough" that's one of those things about Sleep Token that they do so well, much better I think than a lot of artists where you don't just listen, you feel it.
Wow the lyrics & the rhythm & the tone of his voice is just amazing. Thank you for doing this video. This is my 1st time hearing this particular artist and I've enjoyed it tremendously. Keep up the great work!
"got the last few drops from the holy grail" "you only drink the water when you think its holy" two separate songs, two separate lines. one example. VESSEL
You guys have a decent amount left on the album. I would suggest checking out the rest of the singles before checking out the other songs. But it doesn't really matter. Here is what you have left that can be done anytime: - The apparition - Vore - Aqua regia - Granite - DYWTYLM (try and guess what that means before you listen (: ) - Rain Now the final track Euclid I significant. I would recommend one of the following options for artistic sake. Option A: go back and listen to some of sundowning. Option B: listen to only the first track of sundowning. Option c: start sundowning listens after you do Euclid. The song has a lot of call backs lyrically, melodically, and instrumentally. You might not be as hardly hit by these in general but it might be cool to hear Euclid and be trying to find where these little parts come from as you go back to the start of this trilogy. Only if you decide to. otherwise the little dip into sundowning or tge 1st song from sundowning should be sufficient.
I knew you guys would love this one! Vessel does all of the studio instruments other than the drums, which are performed by ii (Roman numeral 2) then they have iii and iv who are not on the album but who perform live with them.
