The mistake you made was going for the double patty - I've had both, the beauty of the single patty cheeseburger from Bunsen with everything on it is that it's perfectly balanced flavor-wise; the absolute best version of the sort of burgers you remember from your childhood. Adding another patty completely throws it off and makes it unmanagable - the bread can't hack it as you saw yourself. Great work going there though boys - loving the content so-far. I'll be tuning in for more!

I like this style of bun, especially on this stripped-back no nonsense kind of burger that focuses on being juicy, which is seemingly what they are going for. Nothing worse than a crispy bun and a dry burger imo.

I know im 6 months late but i hate this style. What ends up happening is it eventually just disintergrates halfway through eating it and slides all over the place. I definetly dont like overcomplicated buns, but just a simple one like brioche or a potato bun with good strucutal integrity is key IMO. I find when the bun falls apart it just ruins the whole burger and makes everything a sloppy un-enjoyable mess.

Used to work in Bunsen. If ordering a double id always ask for it well done because its too messy otherwise. They smash the burgers that are well done. Thats how they time patties coming off the griddle

A bun that doesn't maintain its integrity is an indication it has been frozen and defrosted. KFC is an example, their buns fall apart after 2-3 bites.

Could you not just put a slightly thicker bun base, then a slice of cheese on the bun, lettuce etc to give the bun some juice protection? Then the score might just be in the 9s for the same burger assembled a little differently 🤤

Completely agree with you lads, I love a good burger but I’m not a fan of an overly messy one, I like it to all stay inside the bun, burgers should not be eaten with a knife and fork , they are hand food, last thing I want is it all slipping apart and I’m having to get cutlery to eat it!

how its assembled can make a big difference. well toasted and unshreded lettuce slice will protect bottom bun

Mustard / mayo on the bottom also does the job. Also, for a toasting technique sometimes I put the bun in the pan (with a little bit of oil) then blast it under the grill. That makes it super crispy and basically non absorbent because of the layer of oil

Big man, I understand your love for pizza from The gods. I was down south at Albert Docks to a place called Rudy’s, which is Neapolitan but I have to say, this was the best pizza I have had in Europe on my travels (that I can remember) the doe and crust was baked by angels 😇

Soggy buns ? No surprise considering the burger was wrapped, I'd say the soggy bun was due to condensation more than anything else, why wrap it in the first place if it's for sitting in. Waste of foil paper,waste of time and waste of what could have been a great burger by the looks of it.

With that bun I'm surprised it got 8.4. We've only been once and it's good but not out of this world. Orto, the pizza restaurant that you went to, is owned by the same group and it's way better. None the less, Bunsen is still better than Five Guys, which is over rated. I've travelled all over the world and the only 10 out of 10 burger that I've ever had is at Burger Burger on Ponsonby Road in Auckland, NZ.

On your next trip to Belfast (maybe better in the summer) you should try both Katsu Kitchen and Fin at Trademarket. Trademarket is a great place to sit for a couple of drinks and some great food.
