Extract from the third conversation with Buddhist scholars at Brockwood Park, 1978.

This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.
The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'
We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.
Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at digital@kfoundation.org

What most people think of as “free will” comes from the illusion of the self. If I am separate from my environment, it may appear as though I have “control over my life” so to speak. But I AM my life. I am not separate from my life. When I see that I am my environment, I see that the choices I make do not come from some divine source, but rather are a projection of memory, and are therefore a part of this environment, which is me. So choice can never be free. Freedom is action without the self.

Interpolation between purush(spirit) and prakrati( external world ) i.e, as patanjali said: 'the law of cause and effwct is inherent and coexistent in mind , the yogi who has gaind libration ( kaivalya) is no longer in bondage to mental limitations and is able to transcend the law'.

I would love to talk to him abput this! It makes sense with the jungian idea of fragmented consciousness. When the mind is clear there is no choice. The choice appears i guess. Where did the clear mind come from? Not being fragmented? Wow im really finding some relief for my angst. What a brilliant thinker. Im going to muse on " freedom in Christ"

"K" kept asking a question to which there is no answer unless you enquire into it. It's amazing, how a simple question can elude educated people. Makes me feel not so stupid.

an action which there is no choice, in which there is no effort as will, breath would be a good example.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a matter of confusion, could simply be a desire to fluctuate, the reason there even is frequencies, or anything other than a void of nothing. Anyway, is the heart beat and our breathing considered part of free will to those that believe there is such a thing? He asks if there is action without will or choice, so yeah, I ask about heart beats and breathing.

Yes involuntary action like our biology is without thought and free will however action is present. K makes analogy at the physic free will without filter and conditioning which leads us to an absolute truth of free will

what is will and what is choice, what is action without choice and will? will is choice choice is will action a choiceless will action without choice and will is that’ which is free from any form of action. that which is not action is where the truth comes. when action realize its acting and when it does realize that’ any form of action is not that’ freedom for it continues to act where no audiance attends but it’s own tragic conclusion. so, does action end effortlessly? perhaps, action without any effort or hold to anything, including that conclusionend end and just love?? accepting that one is not “love” or ever was “love” seems to be the conflict between that’ which is truthfully indescribable.

Yes, when the mind is confused. Conditioning can interpret what this means, but most generally it necessitates that there be a thinker separate from thought. Thought requires this separation to induce conditioning which starts the confusion in the first place. Chicken and the egg. So once this is resolved, who is left to make a choice on what? Obviously thought is useful to make a choice within 2 dimensions, this/that, walk/run, apple/orange, stay/go, but beyond that, the fundamental questions of existence, its not useful at all.

Enlightened action isn’t “choosing not to choose.” 😂 It isn’t the “exercise” of choice.

There is desire to do something and when you do it, it becomes an action. Will is that you can perform an action without actually desiring for it. Like bashing your head on the wall 2 times and then doing 3 pushups and finally laying back on bed. This is free will. You have the ability to perform any random action at your will. I dont understand what is the point of discussing all of this. Only the people who have everything in life are free enough to ponder over such stuff where there is no conclusive answer. It may be a mental stimulation for the brain but from a sensible view, it is simply a "big brain time" or "you know this shi* deep and ima philosopha myself" type of activity.
