Toni Collette's wails of grief tear through my heart like a knife. I remember trying to comfort my mom when my grandma died, that scene evokes terrible, terrible memories
@eddietucker7005

I wailed like that when my daughter died. It’s like your whole body and soul is dropping into the ground. You wish there was a language with words that can say how extremely horrible it is, but there is none. Screams are not enough. When I heard and saw Toni Collette do that scene, I knew it. I felt it. It doesn’t get better. I know it sounds crazy but sometimes out of the blue, I get a strong smell of her. I can taste her. Just right in the middle of a simple sentence, it hits me. I wish it was her, but it can’t be. She is waiting for me at the gates of Heaven with the rest of my family.

In the parking lot Joan keeps making sure Annie doesn't turn around because her "grandson's chalkboard" was in her trunk brand new. 😹 I love that detail. Joan's actress is so good at the cult recruiter vibe with the no boundaries eye contact and the literal controlling of Annie's body.

I love how you had the one "jump scare" early on (when Annie sees her mom in the studio), so the rest of the movie you're waiting for the other shoe to drop. When she chases him up to the attic, it really hits because it's the only real jump scare.

The scene at the dinner table where Toni tells Peter she doesn't want to say anything to watch Peter sneer at her Later in the film when Peter see’s himself in the class cabinet reflection and his own reflection is sneering at him Its possibly the same form of Peter that Annie was already seeing at the dinner table Even creepier to think about

I'm still confused about the whole Charlie thing. Was Charlie ever there or was she always the demon? And why call him Charlie at the end if it's the demon?
@1bwash
@1bwash 3 месяца назад
@@sproductionsinc Basically Charlie (the daughter) was possessed by Paimon since she was a toddler. Remember in the movie they talk about how the grandmother was obsessed with Charlie and they were always around each other. The mom says that she never let the grandmother around Peter because they didn't have a good relationship while he was young, but it got better by the time Charlie was born. Charlie was a temporary host for Paimon because Paimon needed a male body. So that takes up most of the movie, they're trying to move Paimon from Charlie's body into Peter's body. I think they use Charlie at certain points just to remind the audience that Paimon was in Charlie's body or that Charlie became a nickname for Paimon because that's how he was known outwardly up until that point.

@jackcoleman1784
@jackcoleman1784 2 месяца назад
Charlie wasn't possessed by Paimon so much as Charlie WAS Paimon. Charlie was possessed as an infant so Paimon grew up thinking it was a female human child named Charlie because in essence....well...it was.

feel like every reaction I have seen to this movie people look at the mom crazy for having peter take charlie to the party but forget that peter didn't say he was going to a high school house party ...he explained it as a school barbecue and she told him to bring charlie so she could socialize... now was it the best idea no because you can't force socialization but it came from a good place...also people miss during the dinner freakout scene she said that peter never apologized or took accountability....it would be very hard for peter and the rest of the family to grieve and heal if there isn't even a sorry or acknowledgment of what happened ....and last point we all forget in her monologue about her family in the support group there is mental illness all through the family soo Annie wasn't mentally prepared to deal with the amount of trauma that got dumped on her in such a short period she cracked and i have loads of sympathy for everyone but people tend to turn on annie lol
@SilverWolf442

Charlie's headless body is not shown in the film, but Toni Collette had to walk out to a very realistic prop of Charlie's headless body in the car. I don't know how many takes it took to nail it, but wow, she's really experiencing that. It is haunting. If you're twisted like me you can google search for the image. Listen to the music that is playing when Annie consoles Charlie. It's Paimon's theme as a lullaby. It makes the movie all the more surreal upon a second watch. Because now you know the daughter is basically possessed by a demon and has been since she was born. I love that extra layer of weirdness.
@joshbates9015

You know, I never asked myself this question in all the times I've watched this film, but why did they not get Peter into therapy, like, IMMEDIATELY after the accident? I mean, I know there's bigger shit going on with the demonic possession and all, but holy shit man, he was the poster child for what PTSD looks like. Steve is a psychiatrist ffs! There's simply no excuse for that kind of negligence after such a traumatizing experience.
@sproductionsinc
@sproductionsinc 3 месяца назад
Getting into a therapy can take months or years, unfortunately.
@joshbates9015
@joshbates9015 3 месяца назад
@sproductionsinc Steve would have contacts in the psychiatric community, and those friends of his would absolutely go out of their way to make time for a teenage boy who accidentally caused his sister's death. That is 100% a critical situation that any therapist would move mountains in order to accommodate. They would have seen him outside of their office hours if needed. I repeat myself, there is literally no excuse for this level of negligence.

To me Annie isn't bothered recreating the accident because to her it's the only form of control she has over it, not really her being a psychopath but rather grasping at straws. That's why she was at that moment detached from everything.
@jackcoleman1784
@jackcoleman1784 2 месяца назад
She's an artist. It's a bit of a strange medium to be sure but an artist is in my opinion empowered and simultaneously constrained by their art. And it's become her primary coping mechanism but as a result the realistic nature of the trauma that is her inspiration is also seen as artistic merit by the community that buys her work.

Forgive me if this sounds a little bit defensive, but; Charlie is not weird! She has mental issues she cannot help or control, that are being caused and exacerbated by the demon that has been influencing her since birth (that her awful, selfish grandma and the others put inside her)! It is not her fault! Also; I wish people would stop saying things about the tongue click. If you've ever lived with something like Autism: things like that are coping mechanisms, purely to help you get through your day, and process things.

Do yourselves a favor and invest in a second headset so that each of you can enjoy movies with both audio channels available, the way the creative team wanted the audience to experience their work. Sound moves around during a movie and the enjoyment is so much better when both ears receive what they should. This film was a gut punch to me initially but the more I think about its acting, photography, editing, score/sound and mood, the more I think it belongs with the best satanic/cult horror flicks ever made.
