I don't think the "Great" in Great Britain ever meant power but meant the "whole of" the collection of countries

FYI, Great Britain is called Great Britain because in ancient times a writer thought of us as Big (aka 'Great') Britain and Ireland as Little Britain. So it's more about size when compared to Ireland, not about calling ourselves brilliant.

From what I've read, it was the French who first began calling us Great Britain to differentiate the Britons from here from the Bretons from Brittany in what is now Northern France as they viewed themselves as different from the French. I wonder do they know the ancient Greeks coined the term Great Britain to distinguish it from the other big island of the British Isles which they named Little Britain (Ireland). We are called Great Britain for short, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, not because we are great although I believe we are. The UK is the actual short name. The biggest island of the British isles is Great Britain, other islands include Ireland, holly island, isle of white etc.

Dr Fox looking very decent! I remember him and DJ Martin Collins in the radio and they were fab - nice to see him on. If Salmond was in charge we should be more worried but with Sturgeon I think we can stay together - the real question that most people are baffled by I think is what precisely is it that Scotland (SNP independence supporters) actually wants/expects from independence that that don’t receive/have at present? I can only see a return to the EU membership and so I think sense will prevail and we are staying united. As for NI it will require some very astute and firm and effective leadership in London and that simply isn’t available at present.

The in 2021 population of Scotland is 5.5 million and Northern Ireland is 1.9 million. The population of the entire UK is 68.2 million. Now, Scotland and NI enjoy a much greater proportion of the UK tax revenue per head than anywhere else. Scotland has massive health issues and a lot of other issues to deal with. Apart from the strategic location of the ports for defence and also the mineral deposits, there isn’t much else of value to the rest of the UK. The population of London is larger than Scotland and NI combined. If they wish to be independent, and are led by the nose into becoming second world countries we should not stand in their way. The only rules should be that they cannot keep the pound, must take a fair proportion of the national debt. Fund a wall between Scotland and the England to stop illegal immigration and England and Wales would be required to have a referendum if they ever wished to rejoin.
