ABOUT US:
As the #retirementtravelers, we have always dreamed of traveling, but we never in a million years thought we would become #travelvloggers and start a RU-vid channel. But, that is what we did! We work hard every day to become better and create something that others will enjoy. Having a community of friends, old and new, follow our journey is fun and exciting to us.
In 2019, we achieved our goal of visiting every state in the union in our Airstream. We also visited every national park in the lower 48. We are big believers in lists, so of course we plan to see the remaining 12 parks in the next few years.
In 2021, we made the big decision to extreme downsize to just a suitcase and a small backpack, each. We started our journey around the world beginning in Central America. We hope that over the next ten years, we will have seen many beautiful things, made many memories and new friends, and shared the experience with our children and grandchildren.

do you pay taxes as perpetual travelers?

SDE, unfortunately we still have to pay federal taxes, however our permanent residence is still Florida so we don’t pay any state income taxes. We plan to be in the United States a couple of months each year visiting with family. John and Bev

It is always great to find other like minded youngsters like us.🤣 Congrats on your upcoming retirement and taking the plunge of selling everything. We don’t regret it at all. I retired from Alcoa, so have made a number of trips to the Perth area. We hope to travel throughout Australia, but it is a little difficult now while we still have our 11-year old dog. We plan to concentrate on Central/South America and Europe for the next few years. We are planning 9-months in Europe next year, so hopefully can give you some good ideas for your travel. @@RetirementTravelers Hello John and Bev, thankyou for the reply, we are happy to be conversing with you both. We live in a remote mining town 12 hrs north of Perth and appreciate the benefits of such a lifestyle. We are using the next 26 months to downsize, learn all things social media related, drone flying and then we will book a one way ticket to Europe in late 2023. We have a few events we'd like to do.....the Mongol Rally, Hadrians Wall and possible buy a van and drive all through Europe, so we are keen to see how your travels unfold, as we can learn from you youngsters! I hear ya! I'm 57... let's call that "mid-50's". I have been on a very focused quest to downsize and simplify my life for the past few years. It has helped me as we transition to living 8 months a year in the US and 4 monther a year in Britain travelling ;-)

Congratulations on selling your home. I know it's quite a process. I ended up hiring an estate sale company. We also retired in our mid 50's in 2019 and bought a Class A (we had never owned one before). We were at Badlands NP the same time as you. I regret not stopping by to say hello. I look forward to see how you're travels unfold. We are going to focus on North America for the next few years. So far we've loved it!

I’m making my way through all your videos and I can’t tell you how much I’m enjoying them! 🎉❤ Yesterday as I cleaned I had your channel on auto play and watched many of them. Enjoyed your video and am looking forward to following your travels throughout Europe and Asia. Curious to know what you plan on doing to get back in the housing market later down the track when you no longer wish to travel full-time? How will you protect yourself from the high inflation that they're predicting now that you've sold your home? We're in our 50's too and looking forward to doing lots of travel starting with a one year trip around the world once travel opens up again. But in the meantime we're busy getting rid of stuff so we can downsize into a smaller place. So will need to check out some of your other videos I think to get some inspiration :-)

Thanks so much and congrats on your upcoming trip around the world and congrats on the downsizing. We have no regrets in our decision to sell everything. Great question about inflation protection. We took ALL of the money from our home sale and have it professionally invested. We don’t plan to touch any of it so that we have options on buying a home/condo 10 years from now. The reason it made sense for us was because we were paying high yearly HOA and golf fees in a gated golf community whether we were traveling or not. If you add in taxes, insurance, vehicles, boat, etc the expenses that are freed up for travel are significant. Hope you enjoy our videos and keep us posted on your travel plans. I used Passport Heath to plan my Trip to Africa and they were fantastic. Note, that you can get many of the shots through your local pharmacy and may be covered by your current health insurance which will save you a lot of money - just make your appointments online. If you have an HSA account you can also pay for the cost of the Vaccines with that and submit your receipt to your HSA provider. The Yellow Fever vaccine can run you more than $300 alone.

I highly recommend Spain as being dog friendly. I spent the summer there last summer and was shocked to see people with dogs on trains, metro, restaurants and just about everywhere. I really recommend Chile as a destination as well. It is a beautiful country with the nicest people.

5 kids and 6 grandchildren. Our plan is to come back to US twice per year and see them. Additionally, our Christmas gift to each child is a trip to anywhere in the world where we are at. Some folks purchase evacuation insurance for international travel that will transport you home if you have a severe medical issue when traveling abroad and aren’t comfortable with the level of care in that country. However medical care in many countries is considered to be equally effective if not better than in the US. Your plan is what my plan would be if my wife was on board. She loves to travel, but at a max of 5 weeks.

Thanks for the tip. We are actually getting a number of health related items done in Medellin Colombia right. Prescriptions, dental, eye exams, etc are all so much cheaper here than US. We do understand your wife’s concerns, but we are having an amazing time with only 2 suitcases worth of stuff. No turning back for at least 10 years. Thanks for following along. John and Bev

We gave most of our items to our children, sold the condo furnished and gave the rest to charitable organizations. It was a 2-3 year process of downsizing, but well worth it. Do you guys realize that only a 3 month visa is available for Europe and you have to leave for 3 months before a new visa will be issued? We all look for ways to get around that but very few options are workable.

What are your thoughts about long-term care? I don’t know anyone who has LTC insurance. It’s expensive but when retired, and LTC is needed (eg- stroke, dementia) it concerns me about loosing everything to fund LTC and quality of life in my 70s-90s.

That’s a difficult one because LTC is so unique to each person’s overall health and financial situation, so it doesn’t feel right giving our thoughts when we don’t know your circumstances. LTC is a very important topic and we have integrated it into our overall retirement financial planning. John and Bev

Thanks for the note. You are correct that we are financially stable, but only after working hard at a career for 34 years. It was still a big step to sell or give away all our possessions and take a leap of faith that this was the right direction for us. We hope to inspire people of all backgrounds to travel more and realize they can live with less “stuff”. How are you doing master John aunt bev actually I am new subscriber Arabic lady citizen since I began to subscribe to British American RU-vid channels since Christmas 2019 I learned so many things iam still learning we are as foreigners subscribers as overseas students enjoy to explore places unknown to us to increase our cultural level improve our English language as well it’s impossible for us to travel to USA it’s very difficult to get visa England much easier to travel thank god the modern technology especially internet and RU-vid channels makeing us as tourists around world in 24 hours or university students honestly we admire your style of life it’s great for mental physical health you explore new places meet new people we too as foreigners subscribers make friendships with people from different countries learn new costumes traditions hopefully this global pandemic end soon amen the USA have great history amazing nature as Florida and Alabama and California states ilearned there southern accents each state of America have special law policy stay safe blessed good luck to you your dearest ones

Actually not so well. This was at the very beginning of our journey, and we underestimated the amount of learning curve on traveling, planning, making RU-vid videos, etc. It was just too much at the time. If we go back to a spanish speaking country for an extended time, we would be better prepared to try it. Thanks for following along and great question. John and Bev
