When you're native German, the pronunciation isn't actually sounding hard, the "ch" is pretty soft :D it's a really common prejudice that German sounds very harsh, but if you actually know how to speak it, you know that it sounds softer than everyone expects :D

WES SAME my Cantonese is literally just sentences translated from English so a lot of the times what i'm saying is grammatically wrong. as for Chinese class, i took Canto for a few years as a child, but when i moved to HK i learned Mandarin, so the Chinese i read now is in Mando instead of Canto and it's so annoying because i have to mentally translate Mando to Canto to English because the way i learned Mando was translating it back to Canto =_=

I loved this topic! It was cool that I could understand a lot of the Korean, since I've been living in Korea for 2 1/2 yrs. I am currently learning Korean and use it every day, so I can confirm Ashley's claim. Watching Korean tv shows/listening to Korean music is a big help in learning the language, when coupled with study and practice. I had a big step up from my friends in listening skills and pronunciation when I first started because I had already been exposed to the language through Korean shows. It also helps listening skills (when you listen actively), allows you to casually pick up new vocabulary and grammar, and reinforces newly learned words and phrases. I am Mexican American, but my parents spoke to us in English when we were growing up. (I'm 3rd/4th gen.) They used Spanish when they didn't want us to understand what they were saying. I took Spanish in high school and have barely used it since, so I'm super rusty. My Korean is way better.

Taking a Korean class after years of Japanese I was definitely overwhelmed by the different tones. Japanese is definitely easier to pronounce, but korean is by far easier to read/write. Also, for "aishiteru" you don't really say the "i" in "shi." So it doesn't really sound like you're saying "shit."

Plus "dich" is not pronounced "dick" it is the same with "ich", it is more like a sigh: [ɪç ˈli:bə dɪç] I love your work and am waiting for the 2nd episode "Single by 30" which is still not available in Germany.

Ashley gorl, Don't say you're a disgrace to your culture just because you don't speak Japanese. This is a subject that I am becoming more and more passionate about. I'm in the same boat as you, as I am yonsei, fourth generation Japanese American, and don't speak a word of the language. In the past I've struggled with the idea that people looked down on me for not knowing the language but I have recently come to terms that I am who I am. For a long time I have felt the weight of individuals who do not know my ethnic and family background "other" me. They place me in this grey area of not being Japanese yet still viewing me as Asian. When people do this, they essentially take away my culture and ultimately my identity of being Japanese American. However, these same people do not know where I come from and the many struggles my family has had to face being Japanese in this country. What makes you and I unique, is that we don't have to place ourselves in one specific box. Being Japanese American, is a culture within itself. For people who are a little removed like myself, I don't feel the need to have to speak the language to identify with being Japanese because at the end of the day, I am. Ultimately, what I'm trying to say is, don't be ashamed of yourself, and don't let people take away your identity. You're Japanese American, as am I. Gorl, be proud. Brandon

I live in Canada, so English and French are the main ones. And you have to take French up to grade 9(unless you have an IEP, which I do) so I chose not to take French, and I'm going to take Latin instead. I know simplified broken Cantonese, a little bit of French/hardly any, hardly Mandarin, a bit of Korean and a bit of Japanese. And I know how to swear in Swedish

And barely any Spanish, I just know like thank you, welcome, water, ect

This was the first lunch break I ever watched, and revisiting it all these years later, i don't know if its nostalgia, but I think it's still my favorite! Honorable mentions: - the one where Christine comes back with her running man glasses (The LAST lunch break pt 1 & pt 2) - The one where Jen calls Justin (Who's getting married last?) - All of their christmas stuff. Not a lunch break, but it is a 'More Wong Fu' : Operation Cinnamon Cookie Latte! (Office Holiday Make Over!)

Ich liebe dich 😂😂 You don't say Ick liebe dic"k" . The ch is more a softer k? lol I don't know how to describe it 😂😂 ch is defnitely not pronounced like a k xD
@a7xmaNga
@a7xmaNga 7 лет назад
you wouldn't pronunciate the "c" as in K sound but only pronunciate the "h"
@HNhungPhan
@HNhungPhan 7 лет назад
mhm. only pronounciating the "h" doesn't sound right as well xD maybe when you speak the austrian german? and instead of "dich" you say "di" x'D

it's really frustrating that most people think that german is a harsh language :(

+Hong Nhung Phan you pronunciate it in a different way :D not exactly a straight "h" sound and I don't know how to explain it at all :D
@glitchw3

you can describe it as "sh"/"sch" the german fisch and fish sound exactly the same and I think is a good reference for the german ch/sch sound.

There are actually two versions of saying I love you in spanish. To your friends/ family it's " te quiero". For a lover, it's " te amo". Each "t" has the pronunciation of "th".
