Please please take my advice. I did a lightning swap on my 2001 supercrew and changed over to dual fuel pumps. The assembly came from a salvage yard that had taken it out of the truck and put on a shelf. After a couple of months of driving the socks came apart got through the filter and clogged all 8 injectors. After allbyour hard work please replace the socks and be done with it. Hope I'm not to late

I love that you guys actually film yourselves doing the work, and offer useful tips for DIYers, it's not just "here's what I / shop XXXX did off camera" like most channels Part of the reason I don't watch much Tavarish anymore other than CarTrek. The "work" is done by others, and on other channels. All Freddy's wrenching seems to be done off camera or is so complex that no unsponsored shade tree mechanic could get the expensive machinery required. Keep up the great content!

Suggestion, the exhaust clamp bolts should be pointing down so you can get to them easier when the cab and bed are back on the frame. Leaving them up now will cause headaches later. Yeah, I know you probably know this but there's a lot to do and you can't catch everything when you're busy. Thank goodness for the arm chair quarterbacks. Now I have to go troubleshoot an IWE. I don't think your lightening has that....

Great Video, suggestion for use with the Walbro Pumps instead of the Walbro Socks (providing the Fuel Tank offers enough room for them?) is to add a pair of Holley Hydramat Fuel Reservoir / Pre-Filters (3" x 15" PN 16-111) which will offer 15 Micron of Pre-Pump Filtration as well as prevent Fuel Starvation (running Lean) at less than a quarter tank of fuel. I've been running one of these in my PWC for a while now with amazing success. Randy AKA randog311

If you want something to easily cut vacuum hoses and soft fuel line nice and straight, then use a PVC cutting tool. You can find them in a few places in Lowes/Home Depot. They are Definitely in both the plumbing section and the electrical section. You can probably find them in the hand tool section as well, if you find that easier. The hand tools are usually right at the front of the store. Good luck with rebuilding the Lightning! Can't wait to see it all put back together and cleaned up!

Agreed, on deciding how far to take your restoration and then sticking to your plan in order to keep things rolling. It may bother you to know that there are ugly spots or some rust here and there but keeping it reasonable and not getting OCD can help with pacing, staying motivated and hitting your big milestones in a reasonable timeframe in order to not get bogged down and/or abandon a project. My daily driver, resto-mod, 2JZ Studebaker Lark is at the road trials stage after only 15 months of work because I didn't stress the non-critical stuff. One day I will do a frame-off, but for now it's safe, straight and only needs interior work, in just over a year!

Although I recently picked up a lighter faster Whipple 5.0 Shelby SS Sport F150, the styling and driving position of that vintage Lightning can’t be beat IMO. Full Bassini, cammed 5.4s sound intoxicating. Don’t miss the fuel “economy” haha. Love and appreciate the content!

I learned a few years back when you tear down a big project like this and there is multiple wires or hoses or cables or all combined in an area it helps to individually mark each wire or hose with paint marker and mark the corresponding location, same with the brackets ect. I was wondering why you don't use grease on the nuts and bolts when you assemble things I have found it to be good practice when you need to take things apart again. If you've never been there you will love the Gilmore. I have been there 8 or 9 times over the past 15 years. Mostly to attend their annual vintage motorcycle weekend, but also just to visit. It used to be primarily focused on pre-war autos, but today it has a great building with lots of 60's and 70' muscle cars and even a small building for motorcycles. It is super ironic that you will be there next weekend. When you were at the show here in Chicago last month I missed it because I was at our camper that spent the summer at a campground in Michigan about 40 minutes from the Gilmore. Now I won't get to meet you and say hello because the camper came home a couple weeks ago so I will be here in Chicago and won't be able to make the day trip up for the show. If you are an airplane guy I highly recommend a trip to the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo. It has a really great collection including an SR-71 Blackbird.
