Haha yes, we definitely have too! We were pleasantly surprised by our stay though, friendly staff and a great sleep! Sad that it's going to be demolished soon 😢 a place with so much history!
Hotel "Yugoslavia" was opened in 1969, it was one of the largest hotels in the country and a five-star hotel. It was hit by 2 missiles in 1999 and has been closed. In 2006, some Greek hotel company bought the hotel but it went bankrupt and the hotel remained neglected. Now it is for sale or has been sold. The future of the hotel is still uncertain, according to some news, the hotel will be renovated and will get one or two skyscrapers, according to others, some parts of the hotel will be demolished, but not all.
Thanks for sharing this! It would be sad to see the hotel demolished! It seems to have been through a lot! It would be great if they could return it to its former five-star self 😀 thanks for watching 👍
Hotel Yugoslavia is one of the symbols of Yugoslavia. Unfortunately, they recently placed it completely on sale and now in March it will be sold and then who knows :/ they are even mentioning it will be completely demoslihed and then a private company will build residental buildings here. It’s a shame the country was not interested in keeping and renovating one of the symbols of the old country. You got a chance to be one of the last residents of this iconic hotel 😄
You should feel honored to stay in the hotel Yugoslavia! It is not a hotel it is a relic of an era. It is about to be sold and turned into "the best Bg hotel" so it will no longer be affordable for mortals.
Zlatibor is actually not famous as a serious ski resort, it is more recreational. It is extremely popular as both summer and winter resort for enjoying walks, the town itself and surrounding sights. There are some of the best sceneries in Serbia there.
It’s a pity the weather was against us in Zlatibor that day! I bet the views would have been epic at the top of the gondola ride. Maybe we will return one day in the summer months to experience it in better weather ☀️ thanks for watching 👍
Most of the building is abandoned, hotel renovated all rooms but basically everything else is old. Hotel Jugoslavija will be soon on auction, in march i think, so it will be sold and they plan to build two big skyscrapers there.
That Hotel going soon for demolition . Who told you to stay there ,LOL ???🤣🤣🤣At least was cheep 43 euros /night. If you want good hotel in Belgrade you have to pay at least double ,specialy around Cristmass .
How do you dare to call hotel Jugoslavija worst hotel !!! It is a Institution of the past times and making joke of it is rude and stupid ,because you do not know nothing about it 😤
Having gone by the reviews online… it is one of the worst rated hotels so it’s not being rude it’s just facts. If you watch through you will see our experience was entirely positive and we had good things to say about the hotel and staff! 😊 we are however sad to hear it may be demolished as it holds so much history
To be honest we had a great stay! The staff were very friendly and it’s cool to say we’ve stayed in one of the most historic hotels in Belgrade! It’s a real pity it’s going to be destroyed 😞 thanks for watching 👍
Fingers crossed the new investors return it to its glory days! However, we must say, overall we had a very good stay and the staff were amazing! We won’t be able to afford it if they return it to a 5* 😂 thanks for watching
Not sure what made you guys pick hotel Jugoslavija but it is about to close down and turned over to developers who most likely are going to knock down the entire property. You should have known better guys!!! Enjoy rest of Belgrade/Serbia
It was mainly to experience a retro hotel and one that is very historic! It would be a pity to see it knocked down! Thanks for watching, we had an amazing time in Serbia 😀 we also didn’t know it was being bought over/planned to be demolished at the time of our stay
The restaurant was wild! I've never seen food like that in my life; and the waitress feeding Dan was so funny! I thought the black jelly-like things on top of your desserts were prunes, ha!!
Hotel Jugoslavija was built in the 1960s and at that time it was 5 stars, unfortunately it is now ruined and for sale...it was bombed in 1999. In 2015, the Kempinski hotel chain was supposed to buy it, but that idea was abandoned. what is interesting is the swarovski chandelier which weighs 14 tons and has 5000 bulbs and entered the guinness book of records as one of the largest chandeliers in the world. it's a shame it's for sale
Yes I would have liked to have stayed there back in its glory days! It will be sad if the hotel is demolished! That’s a very cool fact about the chandelier! Thanks for watching 👍
I hope it’s not demolished! A building with such character and it was a pleasure to stay there actually despite its negative online reviews! Thanks for watching 👍
i am not sure, you maybe know maybe not but serbian and yugoslavian history is full of scotish people. Nurses, politicians, writers, politicians, agents,...
Also, officialy, 5-8% of serbian genetics is CELTICs genetics. Scots are not Celts 100% but Ireland is my first association on Celts, Scotland is second.
First time I went to Yugoslavia was in 1965. I had been every year in the 1960’s, once in the 70’s and several times in the 1980’s. I haven’t been back since 1989. Yugoslavia has like the rest of Europe a star rating for hotels. Back in those days all foreigners had to stay in 5 & 4 star hotels. The lower star hotels were for domestic Yugoslavs as everyone was entitled to good vacations (socialist country). I would think that many of those 5 star hotels have been sold off to foreigners. So these foreigners picked up some very plum properties. This hotel you stayed at in Belgrade was a top hotel that has been downgraded. You can clearly see it’s still pretty good. One thing I will say is that the food I had all over Yugoslavia was excellent (except for the communist restaurants which had really bad service). The only thing I didn’t like was the Yugoslav beer. It was awful. My guess is it has improved since then.
do you remember the beer brands that you tried? Lower star hotels were also available to foreigners just as the 4 or 5 star hotels were available to Yugoslavs. It wasn't a closed country were you were forced where to stay, what to visit and so on.
To be honest, our stay was comfortable. Staff very friendly and a decent enough breakfast! Would be sad to see the hotel be demolished! Thanks for watching 👍
@@BelgradeArch It was conceived to be a high-end hotel, but it never was. It was built for 20 years, when it was finished it was already out of time. It never made a penny, it was supported by the municipality of New Belgrade, it has been slowly decaying for almost 60 years.
It was a reference to the hotel in Tallinn we visited- Hotel Viru! Which has a museum at the top floor which used to be where the KGB would listen to the ‘bugged’ rooms. We were just joking! Thanks for watching 👍
02:32 it is not main but is one of main, becaming to expensive for a lot of serbian pockets. verage monthly wage in Scotland is probably something like 1500-2000 euros or more, average wage in Serbia is 800 euros. Life is way more cheaper in Serbia but is not 2 or 3 times cheaper compared to the Scotland.
Stil, buses and trains to Zlatibor from the rest of Serbia are full but Zlatibor is more and more expensive i am not sure how long will be ful of pasangers.
If you want to ski, my recomendation are STARA PLANINA, it is a new sky resort on bulgarian border. 2 times cheaper then Zlatibor and more then 2 times cheaper then the most famous sky resort in Serbia called KOPAONIK.
Skiing in Serbia does sound fun! However, when we return next time I think it will definitely be spring/summer time to enjoy Serbia in the warmer weather! Thanks again for watching 👍
I dont know if this is in real time, but if you are still in Niš, you should visit restaurant called Kafana Mrak and in the morning, get burek from bakery Anton. Cheers!
@@AshAndDan. Awesome, their best burek is with cheese, many say its the best burek in Balkans, but that restaurant has grilled meat like no other place, really, here are some vloggers that made video about it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qsu1Ql8mrRA.html
皇家壹品火锅 yipin hot pot - is the name on Google maps! Located just 3-4 minute walk along the river from hotel Jugoslavija. Next door to Splav Keops 👍 highly recommend the food there! Very friendly staff also 😀 thanks for watching!
the wall at the entrance is a disaster, the wardrobes should have been removed, painted in a lighter color, this is the disaster, the clothes hangers are all different ??? GOD ??? sad..I'm from Serbia from one of the larger villages near Subotica..I would have thanked them and left the hotel..SHAME !!!
Haha! It’s not perfect but to be honest we had a comfortable stay and the view from the balcony was amazing! The bathroom needed a bit of attention but the staff were very friendly 👍 overall we had a good stay and the price was pretty good! Thanks for watching 😀
