🫡HighGrounders, welcome to the story of apocalypse ridge. A lesser know summit and the first summit from the mega rally I recently did across British Columbia over 17 days. In total we did about 7 summits during this trip and I’m hoping to share a video for each of them but due to some camera challenges I’m not sure yet if that will happen.
Fair warning; this story also gets deep at some points and there are some darker moments in my narration. As you watch, please remember, I create content as nothing more than an authentic method of expression. It’s nothing more than art immitating life. The content reflects moments and feelings that are sometimes emphasized for creative effect through abtract and artistic metaphores for things i may be going through in my life. My content is not for views or clout. It just is what it is.
That said, this first video is one I’m very proud of. Not just because of the intense experience of exploring to this incredible ridge, but also the creative process I went through in a genuine attempt to authentically express myself while also honouring my memory of our friend Malcom Conn, who I later found out suddenly passed away, while I was on this trip. Malcom was a great guy who left an impression a lot of people with his kindness & positivity. For me personally it brought to the surface a lot of deep thinking and retrospective about the time I spent with him, but also what this taught me about myself & the dichotomy in life & death.
For this reason, and after thinking about it more, I didn’t feel right hosting a premier for this video. There are multiple reasons for this. Firstly, I don’t feel right, promoting myself when so many people who were close to Malcom have been impacted by his passing. Im honoured to have known him and want to express that but there are people who were so much closer to him & deserve more space in this regard. Secondly, there are parts of this video where I speak about things that I feel. Some of these feelings are obviously bright & positive, while others may appear to be more dark, but in either case this required a level of vulnerability that I just don’t think I would be comfortable with in a live premier out of fear of being misunderstood.
The reason I take these trips and tell these stories is to memorialize experiences, some times on the trail other times with things that are happening in my life off the trail but always authentically.
It’s my hope that people will understand this and I can share these experiences & create in a way that’s authentic & genuine for me.
If you enjoy the video, that’s great. I very much appreciate it. Leave a nice comment with your fondest memory of Malcom. If not, that’s ok too. All I ask is that you have respect for the process 🙏
This video is dedicated to the memory of Malcom Conn.
Get outside, it’s free. See you at the top soon Malcom 🫡
