I advise buying an out house for the thunder box. They fold flat and small and auto erect with a twist. A lightweight nylon privy with plastic hoops that form a frame. Your battery electric screw driver with a socket drive can be used to screw pegs into and out of the ground. Great to secure a tent, awning or ground sheet. I would carry a portable easy erect sun shade with 4 legs. They come with a pyramid roof and are popular at markets. They can be bought with zip on insect screens. FLY free food in the shade and out of hot desert sun. Worth the 10 minute set up and pack up. Cream for ant and insect bites. Don't forget the Aeroguard, Sun Screen, and hat. Slop, Slop, Slap!

As you have a good amount of space and going remote could I suggest taking a cheap lightweight stick welder and a small quantity of scrap steel plate and angle. Just in case of breakage. Cheers.

I did it on a motor bike so you’ve got a better chance of seeing everything and not crashing! Track was in good condition but you’ll need to sort tyre pressures for sand and for the rocky part heading towards Dalhousie ruins. Mt Dare was flooded out, but is open now so that’s helpful. There’s a tip either side of Dalhousie Springs so get rid of your rubbish there rather than cart it across. Use the chicken tracks and don’t go the old lines over the dunes if you can avoid them. There are big wombat holes on the eastern side of most dunes, some are 1.5m deep and have chicken tracks around which you’ll need. A bike tour truck was like yours and they sat on 40 and were doing it easy but I’d go slower with the boys in the back. We took 3 nights to cross but we all regret not doing one more night out there. There’s a shower and flushing toilet at purnie bore but you can’t swim there, too hot. Go the right track on big red as it’s the easy option and that all depends on time of day/traffic etc. it is not fun to reverse down the dune! Eyre Creek bypass is tight especially for the truck and just cruise, only cross a couple of dunes as you run north. Changes it up a bit. That’s the French line then qaa after poepell cnr. Good camping about 15km east of the cnr with tree cover and better firewood about (you are meant to take your own). When camped get the boys to stay well away from the track as motor bikes go fast and you don’t often hear them. Fuel is about $3 a litre at Mt Dare and Birdsville. There’s an awesome cafe at Birdsville behind the hotel near the power station which is worth a look as it uses thermal water. Not the cafe I mean! Channel 10 is the main coms for calling but you’ll be fine being so high and stuck the flag above the roof top tent somehow. Bikes don’t have flags and don’t usually have coms so watch out for them. 50km prior to poepell cnr was the worst for us as lots of wind drift sand and really soft. Hard to even find the tracks too at times. Hema works a treat there. Two of us had iPhone 14 and that turns into a sat phone on sos situations so your epirb should not be necessary, touch wood of course. We used close to double normal fuel as did our support vehicles, one towing a small trailer with fuel. Trailer was crazy as it goes everywhere and check all your bolts on shackles (don’t know if it has springs) and hitch as we had two bolts nearly go on us at the hitch. The trailer shouldn’t push you much down dunes and remember that momentum really helps there to get steering while not getting bogged in the soft stuff. My drone “wigged” out over at the lead up to the river/swamp and this seemed to be when a light plane took off. It was if the airport punch out a signal to interfere with drones but I was outside the no fly radius at sunrise. Great footage of it turning toward me then flying off. Nearly two hours of searching and I think it went into the drink. Great viewing of the wetlands and saw many brolgas etc. Check out some of the stocking rate signage out there as there was one I saw that said you could have one head of cattle for 15 hectares. The rates were crazy and the stock numbers are high as it’s so wet/green now. Watch for stock sleeping on the track/tar. It’s a great trip and you’ll love it. Leave all your Melbourne “fun” behind. We did the Simpson 4 weeks ago and loved it. If it’s an iPhone 14 you can get emergency sat signal out there to text 000. You’ll have a ball and so will the boys playing spot the dingo or camel. Love the nugget.

Nice setup your recovery kit could use more clevisses and a snachblock yes I saw the "wheel " your tires repair kit is minimal get 3 tire irons so you can get the tire of the rim patches you got power so get a makita die grinder with a few bits and rough stones glue of cause couple more fuel filters in remote places you could hit a bad batch of fuel get a small electric fuel transfer pump have the ability to be able to refill with water get a UV light and filter system for clean water here in canada it's about 300bucks for that system I don't know if the engine got a skidplate for protection but carry enough oil for a full refill and some JB weld kit in case a rock puncture the oil pan JB WELD can be a life saver work on rads too now they made of aluminum Didn't see no duct tape haywire zip tights You travel in the desert I was in northern Canada in the eighties working in the oilpatch then wasn't much out there you had to be prepared in 30/40 below your ass sometimes could have been on line now it's different we got cell service not every where but help will come I'm still out my last hurrah winter coming been out 40 years I'm done but my truck is a 5500 dodge still fully equipped got enough onboard for 5 days at 40 below lol ya don't take anything for granted on top you got a full family counting on you so ya think twice about every little details Enjoy take care be safe

Well you two are such a surprise packet, but we know you will love it out there, we did and would love to do it all again but old age comes to all of us which is quite restrictive. Emptying the poo bucket in the dump point be interesting on the Simpson, last time we were there DPs were few and far between. You can cheat with that Thunder bucket. Get a bin liner or even your plastic shopping bags hang it over the top then put the toilet seat lock it all in and when you're finished take it out try the top part up and your bucket is always clean & fresh and if there is no toilet dumps your plastic bag with your waist you can throw in the bin

Just a little tip on the poopa If you don’t mix your number 1’s with number 2’s you don’t have to look for dump points. Easy with the boys they can just wee on a tree but if the bin just has poo and paper you can put it in a bin like a nappy or dog poo bag 👌

I carry a 1700nm rattle gun as well. Your wheels are set to 700nm and that little rattle gun won’t loosen or tighten your wheels. So the larger rattle gun is set to low and will do 650nm. Any bolt wheel nut will come undone with ease.

Does the truck have a compressor, if so just install a fitting and use it to save carrying extra equipment

An EPIRB is designed to float upright in the water and has a minimum battery life of at least 48 hours. A PLB will float (but not upright, is primarily designed for land use) and will last (I think) minimum 24 hours.
