Thank you for the video on the mini-Washer. My wife and I ordered one, used it today for the first time, and LOVE it. Awesome little machine! We are apartment dwellers in our late 60's. We used your setup example, elevated on a storage container. The only difference is that we found it easier to hook the supplied hose to the input and screw it to the bathroom faucet in place of the faucet aerator. Works great, and my wife was amazed how clean and nearly dry everything was. We have an 8' x 17' screened-in balcony on which I installed four 17' long retractable clotheslines. First use saved us $9.00 that would have been spent on someone else's machines. This will quickly pay for itself. Thanks again!

I absolutely loved this tidbit of your life! I'm Canadian and own a stacked 3-story duplex in the Rockies. A 75 year old tenant lives above me and doesn't like going to the basement to due laundry, specially in winter, so I bought him one of these units. The unit you have requires $120 import fees for me to buy so I went with a similar unit that was much cheaper. It looks identical and I imagine works just the same. It is great! And my Tenant is very happy ... a win/win as far as I'm concerned.

I have used this machine and loved it. It was located in my Econ’s bathroom in a very expensive apartment in Denver. It saved me lots of money and washed the clothes better than the laundry facilities available on my floor. I was 20 stories up. I gave mine to a neighbor and promptly bought another as a back up when I moved out of state.

These little washers are actually amazing. I know of quite a few people that use them and they have no complaints. My nephew got my sister-in-law one when their washer went on the brink and had to wait over a week for the guy to get the part in and with so many in the family, well big families know you can't go a week without washing or it piles up like crazy, and she loves that little washer. She still even uses it for certain thing's even though she has her regular washer.

I have a similar unit is my apartment for the last 3 months. When i do laundry, i simply place it in the tub and use the hand held shower head to fill the unit that drain it into the tub outlet. I was embarrassed how dirty the water was when i first drained it... The only downside is that my cloth still has a lot of lint. Great little washer/spinner unit for apartments, rvs and homesteads. I love the washing machine, it brings back good memories. As a child my mom had a very similar but larger machine. She too would run them through the ringer before rinsing. We had a washer like this when I was growing up. I vividly remember my mother with her foot on the washer while it was spinning to keep the washer from moving all around and her finger in the middle of the plastic lid on the spinner to help keep it balanced. It's amazing she didn't lose a finger. Even with it quirks it worked very well. However, she was very relieved when she could finally afford a regular washer.

Great video! Pro tip for that ball valve on the well, always leave it half open/half closed. That way you’ve got the possibility to crank it both ways if it freezes, gives you some leeway. We do that all winter with our ball valves in the diving/subsea industry.
@dryroasted5599
@dryroasted5599 2 года назад
Hey, pro tip for you; that's not a ball valve, it's a gate valve with a solid disc that screws down against a seat. Probably best to leave it wide open, unless you'd lose your prime from the pump. It'll still freeze either way though.

The washing session brought back memories of my childhood. We had one of those same washing machines, which in my country are considered "inexpensive" and "low standard", mainly because they are not automatic and therefore low in price. However, they have some peculiarities that common washers do not incorporate. And it is that it can be washed and centrifuged at the same time with the same machine. The other thing is that they use little water and the water can be reused as you do. Finally, I see that it is not so simple to live in Alaska, where all the comfort that exists in the urban environment does not exist there and life is better lived. That is if you like living in extreme cold. Congratulations from Chile.

Glad to see you’re using the lint catcher and took advice of people mentioning to spin after each cycle. I did notice your clothes in the video were looking a lot nicer than a few years back when I started watching your videos. One more advice for your portable laundry machine. If you keep your washer and spin cycle lids open for a few days at least, you can prevent mold and mildew developing inside the machine. You can’t see them from outside, but inside mold and mildews are there if you keep lid closed like that. You can also use Oxyclean for stubborn stains and also it keeps your machine clean. If you want to remove smell or sweat stains, use hot water with Oxyclean added. I use all powder pure soap with washing soda and Oxyclean. Then citric acid powder as softener at the final rinse cycle (as I don’t like the vinegar smell in my clothes).

@KittenBowl1 2 года назад
@@williambremner9022 Yeah in where I live it’s extremely dry too like single digit humidity % but if you keep lids closed water would be trapped. That’s just no brainer. It’s actually in my washer machine instructions too that not to keep the lids closed to prevent mold and mildews inside. There’re some videos of people putting washer machine cleaner, and if you use certain cleaner you can see mold and mildews come out visibly like seaweed floating in water, really gross stuff coming out. If you want your machine to last, it’s always recommended to keep lids open at all time.
@KittenBowl1
@KittenBowl1 2 года назад
@@SimpleLivingAlaska Yes, I also live in single digit humidity environment in winter especially because of heater. But if you keep lids closed, moisture can’t escape. It’s also in my washing machine instructions saying keep lids open to prevent mold and mildews. Your machine is made of plastic inside mostly with only few stainless parts. Plastic is perfect for trapping moisture. I’ve seen videos of people showing mold and mildews behind the drum in washing machine. It can get very gross there.

On the subject of garden hoses. We are similar , our well is 250ft away from the tank. I recently purchased some new hoses from Home Depot . The brand is called Aqua Joe . They are a 100ft 5/8" hose that rolls flat , rated to -60 as well. They are so much nicer to use due to their weight. They way roughly half of a regular hose of a similar size. And roll up really nice as well. Some food for thought.

You two are a great hard working team. You get things done even in the most untamed temperatures of -17!

Watching from NZ (as usual) your machine reminds me of my old "HoverMatic 3301" washing machine I used here in NZ in the 1980's - was a 60's / 70's machine - A slightly bigger size / version of what you have but identical mechanically - a great machine for a tiny house with limited space and great on resources!

I've been using this washer spin dryer for 3 years. I love it and I'm so glad you guys got one. Washing clothes with the plunger/agitator did not look fun.

Best portable washer ever! I love mine. I use the 1 minute spinner and clothes are dry in no time! Great video!

Oh the memories you brought back to me: I was doing this as little as maybe 5 years or so ago - very similar unit in fact. Before that I was using a number of buckets and wash days was a 4-5 or more day affair! My twin tub was different in one very important way, after less than a year of blissful wash days like yours mine was recalled by the store and a full refund issued due to safety issues, just the particular brand and model in question. I had to start the long haul of saving for something more conventional for these times. I got it and don't enjoy using it at all, I really miss having one like you have! :o( Nice unexpected extra video, thanks for it. Have a good week, be well. :o)

Happy to hear that it is still working well and remember when you first bought it. Also the reason for stiff line dried clothes is not using fabric softener. Love using the solar dryer and definitely use fabric softener here or the clothes can stand up by themselves. Take care and have a blessed evening. ❤️🍀

I finally broke down and bought one of those(tired if freezing my fingers in the winter). Mine has blue doors and an attached lint trap in the washer. I have a shower stall in my cabin and it fits perfectly in there where I can drain directly, I also use my shower head to fill. I use rain collection for all my water so to conserve water I use my rinse water for my next wash load. I also hang my clothes in the loft to dry. I agree it's great!!! I still wash outside when it's warm in a tub with a wash board and wringer.

I really do get to live vicariously through you guys, I was a huge outdoorsy person most of my life until I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at 20, a lot has changed for me at just 21 years old and there are things I won’t be able to do in this life like move far outside of the city (because I need to be close by to the hospital and whatnot) and I don’t have the physical ability to do the work you do, but I try and do small things that help me feel a little more self sufficient! This year I bought seeds for the first time ever and I’m going to try my hand at growing some of my own food which has been a dream of mine for ages! Love from southern Ontario, Canada! I can only dream of winters like yours. I’m very much Canadian in that sense, love the cold and the snow ❄️

I so admire how you have thoughtfully chosen specific technology to save you effort while still living simply. This small portable washer spinner is a perfect example. My other favorite is the machine that cuts downed tree trunks into slabs of lumber. You must have done considerable internet research before you moved to have chosen so well. Good for you!

I’ve been watching your channel since your first video up here in Alaska! My inspiration to start my own channel. Just got the same washer and will fly it out when this hitch at sea is over in a few weeks. Can’t wait to use it and put the washboard and galvanized tub away!

We live in the woods in rural Canada and use a similar machine to yours and love it - Saves having to go into a city 30 miles away and mingle with the crowds at the laundromat during these C-19 times - Thanks for sharing....

I bought this washer after seeing you use it last year. Nothing but praise for it. Makes laundry easy and I no longer have to haul dirty clothes out to the laundromat. Thanks for the demo.
