In this slightly odd video we head over to France and Germany to meet GAP Diagnostics and also pop in to see Vera and Christian from LR Time - check out their excellent channel below :- / @vera_and_christian
Hello Simon…I watched some of the video by Christian and Vera on changing the engine in D4….and guess what, my friends ultra reliable D4 with 112,000 totally trouble free motorway miles, self destructed the next day. The crankshaft and bearings broke up and the engine is scrap. An engine swap is quoted at £13350 so the poor car is headed to CoPart as a spares or repair job. Seeing them start by taking the body off made the scrap idea quickly attractive! 😬😬😀😀😀😀Richard.
A short block from Land Rover is only about £4-5K but then there is all that labour ! I am sure someone will steal a D4 to get an engine to fix this ! The D4 is a great vehicle - one of Mrs Powerfuls favourite car for a France trip... and it towed the digger to France really well....
@@L663 It has been a wonderful friend without problems other than a replaced brake caliper but the metal bits filled the filter and sump when they drained the oil. The fear is that it has minced up the top half and the turbo as well….hence they wanted £6800+vat for a rebuild plus £2800+vat to get it fitted and running. A second hand engine thought to be on 47000 miles was £6199 + vat fitted but plus all ancillaries if they were affected or thought not good enough and those along were guessed at cost plus fitting at c£1000 +vat on top. The risks are high hence today it is off to Copart and looks fine but has a dark secret of course! 😬😬🫢🫢🫢Richard.
Maybe talk to GAP iid about possibility to independently set/calibrate height for high, normal and low. Not sure it possible, but would very convinient for entering the garage...
It was probably very wise not to stay too long at Christian and Vera's place. A few more minutes and they would have had The Stig up on their ramp and the engine pulled out within an hour. Christian was already looking for problems by declaring that the engine warning light was on. They are hilarious and very talented, capable mechanics too!
Not sure Christian is a Petrol engine fan... although after problems with the latest D4 he may be thinking a petrol is less trouble ! It was really nice to meet them and share stories over cake and a cup of tea !
I'm sure that was very interesting to meet Christian & Vera creators of lr time nobody has been very well detailed on taking a land rover apart, body off ,rebuild engine, and put it back together and it runs this takes skills and knowledge and patience there a lot that gose on not recorded to show every nut and bolt location most land rover owner do light repairs we just want to drive our rovers , engines are somewhat easy to rebuild but transmission takes skills and knowledge both youtube channels are well produced content
If the touchscreen functions fail to operate correctly, i.e., after a software update, a system reset can be performed. To perform a System reset: 1 Select Park (P). 2 Hold the phone button down. See STEERING WHEEL PHONE CONTROLS. 3 Continue to hold the phone button down, until the touchscreen goes blank, followed by the brand logo screen being displayed. 4 Release the phone button. 5 The greetings start-up screen is then displayed, indicating the system reset is complete.
Thanks for this i will try this next time. shame it cannot be done as you drive.... on the tesla i think you can hold bother steering wheel butons down - but not sure if you can do this driving !
Absolute waste of time, money & power having a P300 Hybrid… (if it is). I’ve just completed 1600 miles to France & back & achieved 36mpg out of my 90 D300.. Brilliant I thought especially, as it’s only managing 28 round town at home. The 1st tank before we left the UK showed a range of 520 miles & my aim was to hit 600 miles on a tank bearing in mind, it was mainly motorway driving to The Tunnel & in France so I was amazed & really pleased to see that our 18.5 gallon tank eventually showed 660 miles for the final tank home of 400 miles!! What brilliant mpg for a brick shaped 4x4 .. Couldn’t fault the 90 in anyway & what a commanding view. It dwarfs 4x4 Mercs & X5s ✅
Your lucky Simon , we had a 2k mile trip to France planned, took my Defender to the dealers for a Key/security update and the the dealer managed to virtually brick my car. They lost all the camera functionality and all of the parking sensors too . Plus the battery now drains itself in no time at all . We ended up doing the journey in the wife’s panda 🙄 The panda never missed a beat and the defender won’t start now we got home 😡 As luck would have it, I’ve traded it for a new V8 so it’s the dealers problem from tomorrow.
Well that comment sent me on an emotional roller coaster.... sadness at the mess up on the Defender.... amusement of the Panda stand in.... then a bit envious of your new V8....but i have put my name down for an Octa..... but not sure if Land Rover will sell me one ! I have to take the stig in for this update... I have been putting it off....
A big happy land rover family, really. Thanks for that, great to see you all getting along and getting out and about. Looking forward to seeing what you get up to with the new Gap Tool too, should be very interesting.
Pivi loves to die as soon as you get 8 minutes onto the motorway on a long journey. They need to fix that glitch. Its my only problem that pops up from time to time. I found before pulling over a random combo of hitting multiple audio /carplay dropdown menus it sometimes reconnects.
@@L663 i wish you can do it without selecting Park. Still seems to be the same as the hold audio power button down. Will give it a go. Cant hurt right.
I saw you guys earlier on LRTime 👍🏻 You travelled for a few kilometres and visited two countries. If we travel the same distance, we’re still in Oz. 🤓🤣🙏👍🏻🦘
