We know so many people who struggled to ditch meat due to their love of bacon. But, being plant-based doesn’t mean you need to miss out on that balcony flavour!

A restaurant here in Toronto (Bloomers) made crispy bacon using sheets of tofu skin from the Asian market. It was delicious on a Caesar salad or in a sandwich. And, there’s a vegan butcher shop here (Yam Chops) that makes bacon using large flake coconut, which is tasty. Thanks for trying out these other foods and the two methods. It was interesting to hear your results.

I LOVEEEEE mushroom bacon!! Shiitake mushrooms naturally have that bacon flavor and it’s amazing! I make it almost every day!

I couldn’t find king oyster mushrooms either so I tried the other giant mushroom and I baked them and looked, tasted and crunched just like bacon. I tried the carrot bacon recipe Tabitha Brown way actually. I also baked it and also looked, crunched and tasted just like bacon

After you marinate the tofu in the microwave to dry them out a little and then fry it. Makes it crispier. I think all of the contenders in a sandwich together would be awesome.

Awesome!!! Thx for trying all options and testing them for us 🥰 I tried the carrots and the mushrooms but I tried a different mushroom because I couldn’t find the king oyster mushroom. I baked both and I like both the same they were both crispy and tasty just like bacon

That was a good bit of testing there! Not too surprised the mushroom bacon won, mushrooms are very easy to adapt too 'meaty' dishes.

Yeah, I think the tofu should be extra firm, pressed, sliced ultra thin, then marinated for at least 4 hours. It is a tricky food. I bet those mushrooms are the bomb!! It’s a must try. Thanks Henry! ♥️🌱♥️

I though rice paper bacon and daikon bacon would be on your top list, they are the best of all I have tried in terms of being the most “bacon like”, highly recommend 👍🏻

Yes, this is the first time anyone said anything about baking tofu sometimes being like a damn cardboard!!! I don't know what's up with that, sometimes it's awesome and sometimes it's inedible!
