Just made the first road trip in my Mach E with a borrowed Tesla adapter (mine is scheduled to arrive in October). It is a game changer! LA and the Bay area have tons more EVs than non Tesla chargers. Getting such waiting is a real possibility. But the number of Tesla chargers is incredible. They always have open slots and the chargers nearly Always work. The adapter erased any anxiety. You can just enjoy your car
This video is great! Everybody else that I've watched, had immediate success. You showed that there was a chance that something could go wrong. You found a solution and helped people understand that even if you didn't have the software update, there were ways around it. Love your work, very informative and you've got a great sense of humor. Thanks!
Don't forget the fees. Started when Magic Dock was released, non-Tesla EV's pay around 23-37% more or you can pay $12.99 per month to get the same pricing as charging a Tesla. - Inside EV's.
@@EVPulse keep us posted. Please. Our truck is at the dealership getting a battery module replaced. Yuck! But I did check and we haven’t received that update yet.
As a fellow EV enthusiast (R1T and Y Performance) I for one, welcome you to the SC (and soon to the RAN) network. I believe you will experience painless road-trip charging. Both networks are very well maintained. Will there be the inevitable initial hick-ups…probably but they will quickly be resolved. Tesla has success charging other vehicles in Europe without difficulty so I believe that success will be manifested here in North America. Will there be Tesla owners who frown or are vocal against non-Teslas using the network…without a doubt. But hopefully this is a rare occurrence. We all want to further the transition so let’s be patient with one another and be understanding if that Chevy Bolt is charging at a snails pace or some vehicle is taking up two spaces. These are first world problems. Kudos to Farley and Musk for having the wisdom to make this happen.
It's funny. Computer professionals / IT folks know better than to try new software on release day. You have to wait at least 24 hours to account for rollout problems, rollbacks and re-rollouts, bug fixes and on and on. EVs are basically computers on wheels.
In this case it is the reviewer’s fault. He should have done his homework how this was supposed to work. Once he discovered his mistake, he should have edited out the beginning of the video, which was not a real fair review.
Don't be too excited as I just found out that non Tesla EV customers will have to shell out almost twice what Tesla customers pay for supercharger .Enjoy 😅
There’s a massive back order on these adapters. The worst part of buying the car is that you have to wait at least six month to get the adapter. It’s a marketing scam.
What needs recognising is that you charge at Superchargers by the goodwill of Tesla / Elon Musk. The only company that has taken responsibility for charging the vehicles they make. This is a genuinely generous gesture which should be recognised as a benefit to society, enabled by Tesla innovation.
Ford owners finally get an update (not over the air though) and it is designed, engineered and manufactured by Tesla. If you don't see the future soon all the refueling stations will be Tesla powered unless you plug in at home Tesla will make a profit on electricity they pay next to nothing for store it in MegaChargers then sell at 4X cost, glad I own stock in Tesla
Great video Craig! Answered all of my questions for charging my F150 Lightning at Tesla superchargers...except WHY my adapter order (from the 29th Feb AM) says it won't be shipped until August 2024!
@@m-khs-1748 I'm waiting for one to arrive from Lectron, as I put a lot of miles on my truck and constantly frustrated by the other charging networks, so looking forward to reducing my 'charging anxiety'.
I don't get how at one time the Magic Dock/Tesla Supercharger would work on any EV and now the Superchargers won't work unless updates on car or chargers happen and a needed NACS x CCS adapter. Wonder if the Magic Dock's still work?
The Mach E is on my short list of evs I'm considering. Tesla is still number 1 but it's so nice that this update allows others to use the tesla charging network. Downside I can see, the tesla chargers will be much more occupied.
The Mach-E is a few years old at this point, and there are better EVs out there today, but it's still an excellent choice. It's remarkable how good the vehicle was right out of the gate. Ford did a great job, and the Mach-E is aging very well. - Craig
Nice video showing the issue with the vehicle before it received the update. Hopefully more out there point it out an propagate it on social media to avoid confusion. But this is absolutely game changing for EV adoption in North America. What are the EV haters going to do after the Tesla network is opened to all CCS vehicles by the end of this year? By the way, what was the charging speed you were getting at 60% SoC?
It's March 2nd and I still do not have the update on my lightning? Actually, that adapter will work on most other EVs right now but not plug and charge on those vehicles
Yes I believe you can. I did it the other day at a magic doc. The Tesla app only showed about four charging stations in the Metro Detroit that are compatible. And the one he's at did not show up there . At first I thought that's what the problem was. You can only charge using that adapter on Generation 3 chargers and above. That's a minimum of 250 KW charger. There are a lot of older generation Chargers out there that it won't work on, hopefully they update the entire network soon.
Great Job! I noticed you had the car powered up when you started the charging process, so is that okay to charge your Mach-E while the car is powered on? I received conflicting information on if your car should be in the off position when charging?
Is there going to be a solution for the short Tesla charging cables? I'm guessing there are several Tesla charging stations that won't allow for plugging into the front left side.
@@EVPulsev1/V2 Superchargers won't work They are still CanBus and not PLC w/iso15118-20 J3400 and CCS are PLC w/iso15118-20 for communication protocols for Plug'n'Charge Same physical connector and different communication protocols.
No. It's only for fast charging at Tesla Superchargers (or other NACS-equipped DC fast chargers). You'll need a level 2 adapter to convert NACS to J-1772 for that.
It's just a date you have to order it by. There's only so many cars on the road right now but they already sold. I think all the new cars are going to ship with an adapter .
As a cloud IT professional, I loved seeing the real-time pros and cons of software updates. I’m more impressed how a Ford rep showed up at the charging station. 😳 … An excellent video! … My interests are what is Ford doing to improve battery tech for the F-150 Lightning and PowerBoost platform? 🙃🍷🛻
No you cannot buy that adapter for the last couple of years. There's only two other companies that are making a similar adapter. And I don't think their shipping yet either. You may be thinking about a level 2 adapter? Those have been out for years. And there are adapters that I've been out for years that allow Tesla's to charge on CCS Chargers. The exact opposite of what this adapter does.
It's not Ford's Tesla adapter but Tesla's NACS adapter which functions now on Ford ev's and later on every NACS adaptor. More customers at 30 percent higher prices and a hefty government reward on top. Easy money. Smart.
