Out of all the things I could have gotten into this quarantine, jump rope was not the thing I could have ever imagined. LEt alone find a whole channel dedicated to it lmao.
i loled at this channel existing. i also got into gym rings because im too broke to buy enough weights. ive lifted weights for a long time, gym rings are way harder than they look. if you want to build muscle at home, look into them.
i buy my rope for around 6-7usd (100k rupiah indonesia here).. use it almost 3 years and no sign of breaking.. kettler brand, use it on wooden floor in my house, and going strong.. even if it breaks, im willing to buy another one again.. i mean less than 10 for 3-4 years is amazing bargain
Super Saiyan 3 £2.99 everlast jump rope from sports direct. I’ve just started so I’m just trying to learn the technique. Never skipped in my life 36 years old. Hope I pick it up ASAP
The heavy rope, because it gives you a muscular working, will cause your body to transform and burn fat during that transformation. The magic happens in the recovery.
john doe Not working out after your workout is basically recovery as well, muscle development is during your recovery not workout. Sleep is also considered recovery
You guys give me so much motivation please keep the videos up I’ve been taking this serious for about 2 and a half weeks and I’ve seen the scale go down !
Doesn't seem fair to the speed rope. I think you could have gone harder with the speed rope but you couldn't with the heavy rope. Great video, though. Regards
I think it's six of one half dozen of the other. While you can go faster w the speed rope you gotta factor in the afterburn calories for the heavy one bc you'll def be doing some burning in recovery
arlanta1 I definitely agree. I compare a speed rope to sprinting across a football field and the heavy rope to pushing a football sled a quarter of the way down the field. This test was basically sprinting a quarter of the field rather than the whole thing.
If you guys haven't already, I feel it would be interesting if you did a comparison of the ropes doing what each is designed for, and then looking at the results. Seems like the heavy rope was used how it's designed to, but the speed rope wasn't used to its full potential. Anyway, interesting video nontheless 👍
@jumpropedudes, ignoring the calorie count, don't forget that building muscle (which you were doing with the 1lb rope) means you burn more calories throughout the day regardless as your muscles develop, because more lean muscle mass burns more calories - even if you're tied to a bed and not able to move!
In both the treadmill video and this video, I respect the fact that they tell the truth! In both vids they could've edited in a way that would favor their prediction. RESPECT
435 cal vs 396 cal is only a 10% increase in calories burned. However, it's important to recognize that your body is burning calories even when you are resting just to maintain a core temp of 98.6F. Therefore, to get a true comparison between each rope, you need to remove that base calorie burn which for 30 mins might be as much as 50 cal and the increase becomes 13%.
I never knew they had such a difference. I always used a heavy rope for cardio and before I even got tired my forearms would ache and after I switched to a speed rope like 1 month in it felt amazing no fore arm pain , easier to jump over etc
Thanks for being the guinea pig, Dan! It's good info to know. As I thought (on IG), not a incredible difference in calories burned, but shows they each have their purposes.
I’m wondering how much the heavy rope cuts into your weight training recovery capacity compared to using a speed rope. But if I was gym-less on vacation and could only do one exercise it would probably be a heavy rope. It does two things decently well - cardio and resistance training- at the same time. But doesn’t specialize at either one. If you have access to a gym or weights(and most people do), it might be better to go crazy with the speed rope for maximum cardio benefits, and hit the heavy weights for your resistance training. Just my .02👍 As always if you have good genetics and good joints, and are on “gear” (a professional athlete with big $ on the line) you can train as hard as you like and still get away with it.
You are aware that the only way to tell the difference with 100% accuracy is if this workout experiment was done in a lab in a period of 48 hours! That's too expensive so expensive that you would be rich with those money!
In my jumping rope first day I started with a 3 pound rope and it was really one hard workout. This channel is such an inspiration, keep it going guys !!!
I can do roughly 2.5 times the rpm with my speed rope vs my weighted rope when doing these short interval routines. The strength development benefits of weighted ropes are real, but I don't think it comes close to a cardio workout when done with high intensity as the speed rope. I also don't want to train my shoulder muscles during my cardio as I have dedicated workouts for those, and the weighted rope is not at all a substitute for a comprehensive shoulder workout.
Dude, since you have worked out with a heavy jumprope, you had a muscular workout. So you will be burning more calories when you will be on rest. So Heavy jumprope is better bro. Keep making awesome content guys. Lots of love from India. #DoTheThing
Maybe, if you are not working out right after, muscle fatigue might come into play, otherwise just a speedrope would do just fine. Also double unders for HIIT.
@@eliascorrea8573 I really respect and appreciate your thoughts. Follow me on instagram @jothiathlete369 so I can give you back a follow. I guess we can be friends. After all those who respond towards my comments, as most people don't; do have value in my life. Much love. 🤗♥️ .
Yeah I literally busted out laughing in my car when I saw the price. Like no way am I paying 100+ for a rope lol. I was thinking maybe they'd jack it up to $35 or $50. But 100+ is hilarious
Laughing since I've using the 1 pound rope for about a week now. Thought it was just me that thought it was crazy hard. In my opinion it feels closer to doing a ser of burpees than an interval with a speed rope.
This is for the newbies. I bought a rope that detaches and you can add an indoor rope which is simply an 18 inch rope with a ball on the end ($18 Amazon). It is incredible because i don't have the coordination with not tripping over a real rope thus i get a more constant jump and workout. You can also add large nuts(insert joke) to the indoor rope to add more weight.
I tested 1/2 Lb vs 1 Lb today. I am beginner, 5th session for me. My subjective impression: with 1/2Lb, since it is light, it forces me to jump faster and not so high, I can fast jump 50 times. With 1Lb, it is harder to rotate it at the similar fast speed, and it forces me to slow down and *to jump higher*. And in general, upper body has excellent workout. My legs have workout comparable to heavy weight squats (feeling after session). I typically prefer 1Lb but today I decided to do both and compare. I loved 1/2Lb too, I can jump perhaps twice more in same amount of time. In general: heavier rope forces to rotate slower and jump higher.
Honestly, I hate heavy rope bc it is slow, but you will definitely get a workout. Both have their benefits speed rope for quick feet and heavy rope for endurance. Incorporate both for speed and power.
It wouldn't be bad to work up to first wearing just vest without weights inside.. add a bit of weight week after week to the vest. People thinking bad on your joints are just not thinking very hard.
Yeah, the watch you were using doesn't take into account all the muscles you activate while using the heavy rope, which burns way more calories than the workout you got from the speed rope. It's only able to estimate calories burned from the motion and your heart rate, so since you are used to the heavy rope, your heart rate may not change that much between the two workouts, hence the similar results. Also, you're going to continue to burn calories after you're done with the heavy rope because of the muscle activity more so than the speed rope.
Weighted ropes definitely burn way more calories than speed ropes. Weighted ropes literally feel like suicide, whereas the speed ropes are way more fun.
Some of those speed ropes have the option to add weights to the grips. So they still have the low weight rope but the grips weight goes up to 100g each. Isnt it then going more into the direction of a heavy rope with the actual work of a speed rope? The heavy ropes seems for me more like a slow skipping rope and the speed rope like it name suggests for faster skipping combined with the option to add more weight to the wrist movement it could be more effective when you used like intended. But i am starting skipping just now only interested in whats a better start heavy rope or customizable speed rope and which one i should buy.
I got ~345 cal. burned with the Buddy Lee rope-master in 30” and I’m 145 lbs., 5’8”. Pretty comparable to your speed rope results. 👍(results with Apple Watch 5 on high intensity interval training setting)
Finally making the big push on the heavy ropes. Hopefully you make more videos on the heavy ropes. Some of us got the bundle and we would like to know a circuit incorporating all 4 ropes.
It is normal that by going at the same jump speed, the heavy rope is stronger than the speed rope. The fast rope allows you to make many more jumps, because it is less expensive at the muscle level. Alternating the use of both is great, the heavy rope can in fact give the necessary strength to give greater explosiveness and intensity when jumping with the fast rope
Got my crossrope set 3 days ago... The 1lb rope is unbelievable. Veins were popping on my arms like I had been lifting weights. I can't imagine what the 2lb rope feels like... I'll unpack and try it in at least a months time only. 😂😂😂
i only have a speed rope because crossrope switched up their handles and dont sell the 1st generation ones.. Welp thats what i get for supporting them before their come up ins
The speed rope is better because they almost burned the same amount of calories but he was really tired after the heavy rope so he can't do it as often whereas with the speed rope he can do it more often as his muscles aren't as fatigued. So over time with the speed rope he will burn more
Remember that the heavy rope gives you extra calories burnt after in repairing the muscles vs the lighter rope which is almost pure cardio. But best thing to do........both. do some fast speed rope to get the heart up and keep it up , do the heavy to train your muscular endurance
To intensifie you can try my training. 30 sec jump rope 10 sec break (1: normal bounce 3: double under 5: high knee 7: running bounce). On every 2;4 etc you do some abs for 30 sec. I'm doing it since 2 weeks it kills me every time
Maybe a calorie test to reps rather than time could show some interesting results. Like 90% effort to hit 1000 jumps on each rope and see the difference in calories and also how much longer or quicker it could be to reach 1000 jumps etc.
These measurement devices approximate calorie burns calculation based on research, statistics, your age, weight, and heartbeat. And modern devices may measure oxygen level. Considering your heartbeat using heavy rope was only 10% more, they will show 440 calories instead of 400. So, there is error. Consider you activated 30% more muscle groups with heavy rope; then it will be 400+30% = 520.
*Heavy Jump Rope increases muscle mass and burns more. The downside is that it aches your muscles and increases the chance in muscle testing or pulling a muscle which takes longer recovery. In the end it’s really up to you..*
Still a noob, and in dire need to lose weight and get to ninja or samurai status. Just starting out with the Get Lean set, and the 1/4 & 1/2 lbs ropes are already challenging for me, but since I received them last week, be doing the thing everyday so far. Love your guys channel, and always look forward to your tutorials and workouts, much respect and love from the 670.
Heavy ropes, all the way. The great thing about the heavy versus speed rope is that the heavy rope builds muscle, which will continue to burn calories day/night. That just won't happen with the super-light speed rope.
@fotojak The afterburn effect is a little overhyped, it doesn't actually burn a million extra calories like everyone thinks. It's really only like 30-50 extra calories. Source: Greg Doucette is literally my doctor.
He addressed the reason why he wasn't pushing the speed rope to its calorie burning limits, saying that he wanted to do the same thing with the speed rope as he did with the weighted. Upon that comparison, the weighted rope easily burns more, just as a heavier weight would build more muscle. Im a huge fan of speed ropes, but i use them high intensity and there and integral, and fun part of my weight loss regimen, not the only part though. Weighted ropes for me personally become a little boring, as your movement with them seems more limited, but this could be do to my experience level with weighted ropes. I do know that Almost any type of cardio done intensely enough will burn a good deal of calories and eventually fat. The cool thing about weighted ropes is you can do less, in terms of movement and speed, while still achieving as much, if not more
Based on the theory of the repeated bout effect, the second day is technically a little easier due to the same movement and the way to get more accurate results is for other people to have started with the 1 lbs rope and then do the lighter rope second that way we can get a general comparison between the two groups across multiple participants. Therefore I think its possible that the heavy rope really could have burnt even more calories than what was achieved in this video. By how much? Idk but like you also said, it's not all about the calories when it comes to the heavier rope. We are also not taking into account how sore you will be from the heavy rope vs the light rope which will burn even more calories and fat post workout.
I’m new to jumping so the heavier ropes definitely benefit me in learning to jump as it’s easier to get a good rhythm. I use the 1/2 pound and one pound and alternate between the 2 ropes during a work out. Usually 5minnof each at the end of my training sessions. The heavy rope kills my deltoids like nothing else! They were so sore I slept on my back! Next day back at it. Tracking calories is fine, but it’s just a generalized number on these machines. If you want an accurate read of calories per intensity, you need to do a MaxVO2 test in a lab. I trained professional athletes for years Sinai had access to testing and tested many athletes. This is how you truly set exercise intensity via heart rate. It is your own human body dyno test. We’re all different. I can still get my HR up to 174 and I’m 61. 220-my age is significantly less than that. Bottom line heavy ropes equal killer workouts!
@@JumpRopeDudes If you go to a good lab your MaxVO2 is your MaxVO2. The only way it changes is with fitness level. Don’t train it goes down, do a little red line training and drop body fat it goes up. When you do the same type of training all the time your body acclimates to that exercise. You become in essence more efficient. Jumping with a heavier rope taxes your upper body muscles more which does raise HR. If your legs are well conditioned upper body strength and endurance is the limiting factor. So Just Do The Thing, Heavy or Light, Just Do The Thing! 😁👊
Just before I saw this video I just ordered a 700g/1.5 lb rope that comes with extra weights >.< I've skipped about 3 days in my life... If he finds it hard I'm going to die. You will burn more calories over the next 48 hours as your muscles repair, than you would initially with a speed rope. It just takes longer to show.
Just as an FYI, the more muscles are included and the heavier they are worked, the more afterburning will happen. You burn more in the next hour or so, because your muscles are recovering from the workout, and that needs energy even if passive. So, as you said you felt, you burn more than 435 cals with the heavy rope in the end.
Another big difference is that with the heavy rope you're gonna burn calories afterwards with muscle repair, whereas you're not really getting that with the light rope
It depends what you expect "significant" difference to be: 39cals with heavy rope equated to 9.8% more; and average heart rate was 6% higher - that's actually quite significant. I agree he could just push the steps per minute on speed rope to get a similar workout. I'd be interested to see a comparison of less sets but much higher intensity on both!
So if I’m going to incorporate jumping rope into my workout, which already involves weightlifting, would it be better to go with the speed rope for just cardio or to get a little muscle building boost with the heavier rope?
Well every time I do my train with 1/4 and 1/2 lb I'm out of breath. Especially when I do double under ,high knee and running in place with some abs between. On my next pay, I would consider try the heaviest jump rope. I'm curious about the sensation. #dothethingss
Robin Mumu - imo the 1/4lb & 1/2lb ropes are the best bang for 30-60 min of fun cardio. Not too light that you don't feel the resistance but not too heavy that you can't do tricks. 10 (1min rds) of 1lb and my forearms, shoulders, and upper back are on fire. The 1 lb is very challenging and next level.
The chronometer cannot take into account things such as muscular exertion due to added weights. It is only making a best guess based off of the pulse rate you sustain.
I got the *get fit 2020* pack which includes the *get lean 2020* pack with two speed ropes and the *get strong 2020* pack whit two weighted skipping ropes. I received a massive discount at checkout of 20% (all for £240) I started to follow you guys right after I gave birth to my first child two years ago and in the meantime we had another baby (5months old). I have a lot of skipping ropes but this time I wanted an upgrade for my routine workout. I must say that I gifted all my old skipping ropes and I only use #crossrope from now on. I'm so happy with the purchase Keep up the good work. 💪👍😘
My guess is that the heavy rope provides more of an AFTERBURN effect than the speed rope. In other words, the extra amount of calories burn that happen while using the heavy rope might not be that significant at firs glance ((when compared to the speed rope) but it lats longer.
