WE THE SOUTH | MANUKAU ROVERS DOCUMENTARY 

We The South is the stirring underdog story of the 2022 Gallaher Shield winning Manukau Rovers rugby team.
Rovers had hit rock bottom. They were a South Auckland club struggling to compete with the glamour sides of Auckland’s Senior men’s rugby competition. After copping a 99 point hiding to University in 2021, passionate club members felt it was time for an overhaul.
Enter Doug Sanft. The popular mentor of their junior programme was tasked with more than coaching the seniors. He was asked to bring local talent back home and build a culture authentic to the players and Mangere.
The result is the story of a working-class community standing up to be counted, as Rovers became a revelation.
