We Took the HARD Trail... 2023 Desert 100 Dual Sport Poker Run

For me, the highlight of the 2023 Desert 100 event near Odessa, Washington was the dual sport poker run. This was a fabulous opportunity to get my Honda CRF450L out on some rocky desert singletrack and really put my newest mods, particularly my Honda CRF450L AIM ECU and Graves Full exhaust to the test. Tim and I decided to start the day off with a bang by immediately jumping on the hardest singletrack trail on the route. Things went okay but we got tired out quickly and ended up rescuing another dual sport rider on the 2023 Desert 100 dual sport poker run who was having trouble getting over a cattle guard obstacle.
Thankfully we were there to help and he got on his way successfully. Afterward, a quick stop at the brewery in Odessa for lunch before heading on to the Industrial Park Trail and beyond. This was some of the most difficult Honda CRF450L trail riding I've done, and I struggled more than once with both my lack of skill and my current lack of physical fitness.
All in all, a great day of dual sport trail riding and a well-deserved beverage run at the end.

Rode the poker run in 2019 and dealt with rain and snow most of the day. Most exciting part was the 1.5 hours it took to find our truck in the parking area and realizing why everyone had tall flags attached to their vehicles😁

Those trails are actually created by the local livestock. This is what I grew up riding on farm land, cow trails, except not as many gnarly hills,, and not as much challenging fun. The rain definitely helped y’all out. An ECU flash also helped out the 300 Rally with its jerky throttle too, it’s much better now. Nice ride!

Ben, you may not have the endurance but you can tell your riding has come a long way and impressed… Got my MSF done in the pouring rain and next week get to get my Motorcycle Endorsement… really excited… Gonna get a Himalayan for my first bike… This was a fantastic surprise video after the Mexico trip and that other get together in the desert… Really enjoyed this video.

I been riding the iron man poker run for 20yrs on my 2003 KTM450 EXC. When I learned there was a dual sport course I thought "Im gonna take my africa twin and give the dual sport course a try".. Glad you made this video. After watching, the dual sport course looks better suited for my KTM! Dont think I would want to do it on the big bike. Course looks like it would be a blast a 450!!

I am 99% sure you passed me on my BMW F850GSA on that last trail there with the blue buildings and that crazy steep drop. You said something about good on us for doing it on big ADV bikes as you went by and we were taking a break. It's possible it was someone else, but my friends and I are the ones at Mosko Moto on our bikes about to leave, and then I'm in the tan and green Mosko Suit there as you are getting your first card. I felt you when you mentioned being out of shape, and out of practice, because I felt that way all day long. I may not have been you, but I'm pretty sure it was.

What a great idea for a Poker Run! They're usually dedicated to street bikes only, so this was a treat to watch. Those buttes and rocky lava rock are similar to my neck of the woods - in Butte County, CA (Paradise). Makes me want to buy 100 acres to create my own tracks. You could build your own obstacles on your 13 acres, I'd suspect. BTW, what Alpinestars jacket were you sporting? If you have a chance, test the Halo Drystar. Ryan F9 considers it one of the best all-around jackets.
