I cracked up when you commented on how fast el fenix was. I’ve eaten at that el fenix by downtown numerous times on weekdays at lunch with the place packed full of people. Even if you show up with a party of 12 who all want customized orders, somehow the food comes out in under 10 minutes. I don’t know what their magic is but it’s amazing! It’s not gourmet, but it’s good, classic Tex mex at a good price. Sometimes that’s the kind of Mexican food I’m in the mood for.

Texas is known for queso that your cheese enchilada was covered in from El Fenix and everyone has their own version of it. Being from Dallas I was sort of bummed out at the list that eater put together. Some of those spots I've been going to since the early '70s (guessing before y'all were born lol) so it was fun to see you eat there even if you didn't like it.

OMG....I freaking love BBQ...I have to admit, the Fenix food didn't look so good to me. Cheese sauce on cheese enchiladas is illegal! LOL...That beef rib at the end had my mouth watering like crazy. Being from Texas myself, Whataburger was our place to be. We had one right by our high school and we would always go there on Friday's. Interesting fact, there is one coming to Vegas soon near the Aria. I haven't had one in so long! Next time you are in Vegas, try Rollin Smokes. I know Josh doesn't like beans but I swear, they are absolutely ridiculous with tons of meat in them....Good video as usual...So jealous of this one!
@JoshRachael
@JoshRachael 7 месяцев назад
Yea that Cheese sauce on Cheese enchilada did not work for us. The last two BBQ spots were so good, so glad we left them for the last couple spots! We just walked by the Whataburger site on Sunday, should be interesting to see how it does. We have still not done much BBQ in Las Vegas, probably due one of these days and if a place has a Beef Rib it is right up our alley. Thank you as always Johnny

@@JoshRachael I guess this one was left off the list because their limited number of space on the list. It's is Mama's Daughter. It's about a mile north of Keller's. It is home cooking. I live not far from that Keller's, I waited tables in that El Fenix and I sat at that table in Sonny's. You needed to get a hotel right off of the DART Rail. $2 all day and Everyone of those places Downtown are stops for the Dart Rail. I went to the State Fair today to get my Corney Dog using the DART rail. I got on the Train about half a mile from Keller's looking to the other side of Keller's you can see the Rail line.

9:25 Williams Chicken is hood chicken. (What does that mean?) it’s low priced chicken mostly found in lower income areas. Not that it’s a bad thing to support lower income area businesses… but the chicken, location, and place are sub-par. You’re better off going to Babe’s or Mike’s for good, fried chicken.

great video, that was a lot of work. As a Dallas resident, those places are all super spread out! Joe T Garcias is a must next trip, thats in Fort Worth. Best frozen margarita around. The “enchilada with Chile con queso on top” isn’t an enchilada; It is a Dallas Original Tex Mex dish called a “Soft Cheese Taco”. IMO El Felix isn’t as good as it once was. They were known for their unique chips and Chile con queso, THEY CHANGED BOTH!! C’MON EL FENIX!! BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL CHIPS AND QUESO!!

You have to understand Sonny's, El Fenix and Keller's if you to ask where you have to go to a life long Dallasites. These are places that you have to try to get the real Dallas experience. If you were born in the 60's, 70's, and 80's this were the place everyone know about and are still are around. Most of the other places are newer About Keller's it is a great burger it was the best burger in town since I was a child. Also it's an experience to go there in your car. People will drive up and get their lawn chairs out and hang out all day because the beer is cheap. It is a Dallas Experience. What they missed about El Fenix it is the original Tex-Mex restaurant. It defined what is a Tex-Mex restaurant. You go to any Tex-Mex kitchen they are all set-up like the El Fenix Kitchen. Once again if you have to come to Dallas and want the Dallas experience you have go to El Fenix. If you go to LA you have to go to Tommy's to get a burger. It's not the best burger but you want the experience. Now what most people don't know is the original family that owned El Fenix sold it to a holding company in 2009. Many of the recipes have changed. So you are not getting the what it use to be food wise. If you wanted the place that first put chill on your Enchilada then El Fenix is where you go. It's like going to the place that had the first frozen margarita. That El Fenix is Store #1. Sonny's is the place George Bush would order from every time Air Force One landed in Dallas. I have a friend who has foreign guest come into town all the time. That is the first place he will take them right as they are coming from the air port. While they are eating the BBQ he tells them about George Bush. They get very impress that they are eating where a US President ate at.

Texas Chili first came with beans, beans are a poor mans staple and I bet you beef is a luxury item in the poor mans house. Chili was served on cattle drives of 1800's and mainly poor people would prepare Chili to feed their families! I have been eating Texas Chili for maybe 60 years and Chili always has beans in it.

Come to San Antonio next on your Texas travels! Dallas is not, I’m sorry all… considered great Texas food and hospitality. Once you get to Austin and lower, you have another thing goingon!!! Glad y’all enjoyed yourself 🤠

We would love to make it to San Antonio. We picked Dallas for a concert on Rachael’s Birthday, unfortunately it got cancelled 3 hours before 😢

What about Velvet Taco? 🤷🏻‍♂️. All the tacos are great! Must have the Elote and finish with the Red Velvet cake with caramel sauce. You will love it for sure.

Sonny Bryan’s is just old. It’s not good. Terry Blacks. Pecan Lodge. Hutchins BBQ is where it’s at.

Uhhhh guys... Sonny Bryans is probably one of the worst BBQ places in DFW. No hate intended towards them, but it's like going to Taco Bell and saying you've had authentic Mexican food.

We definitely got better later in the trip but to be fair we didn’t make the list we just went to the places and ate

Go to FW on west exchange ave in the stockyard area and you must try Hookers Cafe. You will not regret it and it will be one of your favorites… guaranteed! 👍🏻
