I've never had an expensive Pu-erh, but I can relate to your "musty" comments. I use a lot of Ayurvedic herbs (amla, henna, etc.), and, when mixed with water, the mixture has what I like to call the "old house" smell. For me, it's reminiscent of my grandmother's house. Sounds strange, but glad I'm not the only one to favor it. Side-note, but...Ms. Carla, I love your lipstick! Nice shade on you.

It is interesting that herbs can also have the smell. I am a sucker for a red-orange lipstick.

Lao ban zhan is one of my favourite puer. I find it leathery and wood barky.

For $200.00, if you buy a sheng cake, the chances are you will have to wait a quarter of a century before the astringency subsides so you can enjoy what the manufacturer intended the tea to be. You can get a decent shou cake for $200.00 that the bitterness is gone with the age.

It's a very nice video! And a very unique channel 😇 Hmm, I had an ambitious sheng puer from wild trees just yesterday - it was interesting - raspberries, black currant, overripe apples, almost cider-like aroma 🤔

Enjoyable to see you two having ripe puerh for the first time! Laobanzhang tea for 200$ sounds way too cheap to be true, it normally goes for around 2'50-3$/gram and always go with a trusted vendor that has very good reputation. It'd be interesting to see you trying some Chawangshu raw puerh. Give it a go if you can!

Our tastes seem to be fairly cheap, but we do enjoy trying more expensive teas. We got a box of tea about a year ago with lots of very interesting teas. I think we reviewed most of them here on RU-vid. Our most used vendor is teavivre, and we always get good teas with them (we occasionally buy tea from Amazon but it's mostly for videos). Typically we prefer ripe puerh, but we'll have to investigate Chawangshu!

I have a magnificent sheng pu erh from the late 1980s. An iron cake,I have 3 of them. 800 bux each. Would you like to try a sample? I’m sure it could be arranged. Just let me know,as I have one broken up,it needs a few weeks to sit in a caddy,to let the outer rind and inner core to marry.
