I grew up in Australia and in the mid to late 80's friends and family were always having Tupperware parties! My Nana used to buy a lot and her pantry (which was a whole room by its-self) had racks of all sorts of food in Tupperware. It sort of is where I got my love of pantry's and plastic storage containers from. Cant beat going to Nanas and getting a bit of fruitcake from the orange circular Tupperware container with the zig-zig raised lid section!
My late wife was a Tupperware seller holding parties at our home or by friends. Because we moved in 1986 she stopped. We had the complete range of the products. I still use many of them today. They are robust, airtight, and almost indestructible.
I hope you realize that seeing your mum on camera totally explains not only you, but also Chloe. All three of you have the same sense of humour and mannerisms. It makes these videos pretty entertaining and wholesome. More B-mum in your videos please!!
lmao watching you try to sieve flour with a tea strainer that my parents use to this day 😂 To be fair, if I didn't know already I wouldn't have guessed either :D
My oldest sister still has and uses her Tupperware salt and pepper shakers she got as a wedding gift in the early 1970s. Lids for over the openings were lost, probably because of her 5 boys.😂 What you have are for oil and vinegar.
No, they are not. They are for salt and pepper! Just make a quick google surge and you will see. :) My mom had those, and still uses them. For salt and pepper. And as Barry sad, its really good do make it even on the food you seasoning.
Your mum is adorable ❤️ My Mum and Sister had parties. It’s a pyramid selling scene which none of us realised 😂 All of our childhood Tupperware is still at my parents and another fun fact, we went to the Tupperware HQ in Orlando a few years ago, it was brilliant 😂
The pink lidded container of mini tools is also a butter dish and you can deodorize your tupperware by soaking in it in a white vinegar and water solution. I have tupperware that my mother bought in the 1960's and it still works perfectly well. My biggest problem with durability was carelessness by my family.
Your mom is the best! Also to answer the question: I have been in a tupperware party! Though, I think I was like 6 or 7 years old and with my parents of course. Only thing I remember about it that there were lots of plastic things and it was super boring for me :D This happened about 30 years ago.
"Going to a tupperware party" was mum code for going to an Ann Summers party so A) the husband didn't know that's where she was really going and B) the kids didn't ask to go 🤣
My grandma hosted a few tupperware parties when i was growing up and my boyfriends mom hosted a facebook tupperware party this year 🤪 she gave me a bunch of extra pieces she had i love them for the nostalgia
5:20 my mum just to host and go to Tupperware parties back when I was a kid (35 now). Watching you do a tupperware vid with your mum brings back so much nostalgia to be honest
ive still got my mums tupperware burger moulds, still clean and from the 60s. amzing things, you mould them and then can freeze them. mum used to hold tupperware parties in the 60s bless her. miss her. mate your mum is amazing and what a laugh. Regards Mick. my first comment
My mom went to some in the 80s hosted by one of our neighbours - she didn't buy much there but one time she came home with a bright orange colander she won for being the closest in guessing how many holes it has
My parents still use the butter dish my mum got in late 80's or maybe early 90's, it's holding on remarkably well, no discoloration or funky smells - same model as the one you showed, but in teal.
My grandma had loads of tuppaware at her caravan and she had a butter box like that! I was a kind of pale turquoise, though. 😊 I can remember my neighbour coming to our house with tuppaware. Must've been late 70`s to early 80's. 😊 😂 Your Mum's got the best laugh, she set me off too! 🤣🤣🤣
I'm in Ontario, Canada and they still have tupperware parties. My MIL goes and buys things. A coworker of mine used to do tupperware parties. My mom used to go when I was little and our cupboards were filled with it. She'd buy the dollar store stuff to send home with friends/family for leftovers just because she knew either way that plastic dish was not making its way back to our home. I have tupperware, new and old now. I love it. It's so well made. I am always happy to find it at the thrift store too. Though, I now try to avoid most of the stuff made in the 80s cause of the chemicals.
Grew up with Tupperware in the 80s.. loads of it. I had a Tupperware party ( early 90s) still got som bits ..Travel/picnic salt n pepper pot and travel vinegar shaker , a very useful stacking multi gadget ( basically a mini jug with interchangeable tops for grating, egg separator, a pouring lid and a lemon squeezer. Even some kids toys which were super strong, had more stuff but gradually gave them away over time.
I remember as a kid going to tupper parties and playing with the other kids while all the mums were looking at the tupperwear stuff. And we have exactly the same butter box, only in green, and we still love and use it. 😂
Honestly, Barry I have had to of where all my life and I’m almost 60 and I still got a few of the Tupperware from my childhood and I still use it. I just don’t put it in the microwave because I did that once it melted.
I did, both going to a party and helt a party. Back then it was a very good thing to do and the products I use now after 35 years are in a good condition.
Hard cooked eggs: before cooking, tap the egg lightly with a spoon all around until you hear the slight noise that it makes. Cook them and then they will peel like a dream. The tapping separates the membrane from the shell. I was skeptical, but it works wonderfully.
My mum used to go to tupperware parties when I was a kid, never bought much but would always come home with a lill spoon or meassuring cup they got for participating. The sieve-thing is a tea strainer
I live in Sweden. I camp in a caravan every summer at the same campsite. There is a couple there selling Tuppeware every Tuesday and Thursday all summer. I've been and looked a bit at what they sell and they are very friendly and want to show their nice plastic things to everyone who walks by.
This is so wholesome 😂 My roommate actually went to an online tupperware party event recently and got a huge tupperware water bottle as a free gift that she gave me. I actually kind of love it and use it a lot.
Yes, i went to a Tupperware party a couple of years ago. Also it has a lifetime warranty so if it smells or is missing a lid you can contact Tupperware and they will take care of it. ( or so my mother states she had my grandma's replaced. )
Got married in 1976, 18 yrs old, and sold Tupperware to make ends meet. I still have and use my old vintage Tupperware cereal bowls, mixing bowls, storage dishes and salt and pepper shakers. It was fun. Unfortunately can’t afford it now, too expensive for our budget.
My mom sold Tupperware when I was a kid. I got drug to everyone of her party's. I was made to set up her display. To top it off I had to help the person who booked the party serve their food and drinks. I also had to run back and forth to the car to bring in product that people bought. Believe me I absolutely hated it. My wife and I were given a bunch of Tupperware for a wedding gift from someone in her family. It quickly got lost or forgotten about at work. Great video today. Glad to see your mother again in a video. You need to get her and Mrs. B in a internet hack video. Have a great day.
My parents hosted a Tupperware party. To keep us kids busy, they had a kiddie pool with water and chucked tupperware gadgets in the water for us to play with. 😂❤
In the 70'and 80's i grew up with Tupperware party's. At an older age, when i had small kids i gave party's at people's houses. But some little tips, you can soak tupperware in soda, but when its really dirty, trow in a teaspoon of bleach en then was it good. Official you loose guarantee (not the case i guess now) if you put them in the dishwasher they qlso get a good clean. Further the ones you used for the egg and sieve part were used as a party gift , loads of people collected them. The sieve i still use in my kitchen for flued stuff, when a teabag explodes or when i make fresh orange juice. Finally i enjoyed watching as always.
We had a pickle container that had a post in the center attached to a bottom piece when you pulled the post up it lifted the pickles out of the liquid so you didn’t need a fork or get your fingers wet. Genius.
Loooove the Barry Lewis mom moments, she has the best laugh! When she laughs it is contagious. Also, we still have tupperware parties in North America ♥
I still have a Tupperware container like the one you put butter in that I keep my block of cheese in! I have the egg yolk/white separater too. I thought the mystery device was a tomato cutter/separater!
You've now got me questioning everything! at 10:53 that is the "butter dish" that has been in my parents house since i was a child nearly 40 yrs ago. There's is all the one colour, the same as the base, but now i'm wondering if it was never meant to be a butter dish!
Tupperware partied were massive in the 80s & 90s. Good Tupperware shouldn't smell. If it does smell it means the plastic has started to degrade. I'd get rid of those ones. We have so much Tupperware in our house that we still use everyday. All our storage containers (flour, sugar, rice, etc) are a full stackable set. Also all our measuring cups and spoons too. I've never been sure exactly how accurate they are but we've been baking with them for 30+ years and everything always works out perfectly. We also many microwave items. One to poach eggs, one to boil them, etc. The omelette was chewy because you cooked it for way too long. Eggs only really need a minute or two in the microwave.
Ah, Tupperware! I have fond memories of growing up with beautiful matching Tupperware products in my mom’s kitchen. When I got married and we moved from the US to Germany- some of the other Army wives were having Tupperware parties so I bought some beautiful pieces of my own. I only have one of the pieces left but I still use it occasionally. Interestingly, the colors in Europe were different than the colors that were offered in the US.
At a Tupperware party there was always a gift to win. We are still using food tongs (which are metal!!) that my husband's first wife won at a party in the 1960's
I thought the little orange cup with the hole could be for helping to make things like mayonnaise where you need a consistent stream of oil and would let you have your hands free to mix
My Mum was big into Tupperware (70's/80's). Always used it to take food etc on holiday with us as we usually went self catering. We still have a some of it left and use it regularly, it was pretty decent quality back then.
It really was. Today … less so. I happened to overhear a few Tupper ladies who wanted to get out and were selling their remaining stock at a flea market. They didn't have much good to say.
Back then, sure, but today we know in that time period that the colored plastics leaked various chemicals. My parents have the classic yellow measuring cups and they are known for leaking lead and arsenic into your ingredients.
@@rolfs2165 Yeah, I used to hear terrible stories about some of the people that held the parties, very much a case of if you go along you aren't leaving until you've bought something. Thankfully my Mum was never a seller and had other avenues to get the stuff.
@@MrMega200 I've heard about that too over the years. Never been a problem for the things we had, or still have but to be fair what's left isn't really used for food or drink these days. It's a bit too old for that.
We had both the egg slicer and the egg separator for years, but I don't think the ones we had were TupperWare, they just looked exactly the same 😊 I've been to a TupperWare party, about 27-28 years ago. Bought a large bowl type thing with a lid and a removable colaner insert that I don't remember the proper use for, but it's still in use as a serving dish, especially when barbequing (the colander is never in use). Don't like the concept of TupperWare parties, as you feel forced to buy something, and the items are usually pretty expensive.
👋🏾Hello to Barry's mom!!! Now we can see where Barry gets his sense of humor! This brought back memories, *terrible* memories, of someone giving my mom a Tupperware lunch box and her forcing me to take it to school in Jr High in the late 80's. No matter how hard I tried to lose it, it would always turn up.🤦🏾♀️
My mum used to go to lots of Tupperware parties in the 80s. She even hosted a few herself. We certainly had plenty of the stuff in our kitchen. 10:44 is definitely a butter dish, we had one of those in white and pale yellow
I think the thing you believed to be a funnel is a batter measure. The batter should take a certain amount of time to fall through, possibly 5 seconds for the right consistency for a batter mix.
great video, love your mum, she's so funny, and I know the salt and pepper shakers are "closable" if that's a word.. lol, you push the sides of the circle down so it would be like a little dome, or resemble a mushroom now I think about it. that way the holes are closed.
I went to and had Tupperware parties. I still have lots of Tupperware and use it daily. Great storage. I have lots! Even cream/sugar containers and lunchbox kits. A cool tool they made was an orange peeler. One side you could score the peel and the other lift and pull off. I even have the mini sealed bowl keychain (only available as a hostess gift).
I had a Tupperware kid-sized picnic basket with a bunch of little containers in it when I was young. Lost count of the number of Tupperware parties my mom and her friends hosted/visited. They went through a period where they were all having painting parties, where these people came in selling oil paintings. Party everything!
hi Barry I remember my mum going to Tupperware party and the orange thing with the square holes that you put self raising flour in is a tea strainer and my father still use it to this day
I loved Tupperware!! I am old enough to have been to parties, there was always a free gift of some kind, maybe a scraper of some kind, the salt/pepper containers were may favorites!! June Bug, 🇺🇸
I’ve been to Tupperware parties, have had loads of stuff which has diminished over the years (like cereal bowls and plastic cups all with lids, salad crisper etc), I now have 4 pieces that I still use, a salad box for prepared salads, a cake carrying box with handle and two pots that I use for rice storage, all go into the dishwasher, maybe you should have done that with your bits. I’m pretty sure they don’t do it in England anymore but still have it in USA 🤔. ❤ Didn’t realise it’s available on line 😮
Man, I love your mom! she´s like sunshine! :D I´ve heard of Tupperware, just from the tv tho when I was growing up (80s) don´t know if that was a thing in our country too? (Sweden) Gotta call my mom and ask lol
The self restraint you must have to not call this vid "teaching my mum how to blow eggs" is immense! in the nicest possible way, i love that your mums a little crazy, she always livens up a vid!
You can sort of guesstimate the age of tupperware based on color, type of plastic and, to an extent, function. My guess is, the first two are from the early 2000s, the egg thing is from the 80s, the scoops are from the 90s and the omelette maker is from the late 2000s, early 2010s. Most of my tupperware was gifted from my mom's generation getting hostess gifts, leaning heavily into the burgundy red, but I did purchase a silicone brownie pan myself a few years ago. Color of the late 2010s seems to have been purple.
