We Try Seafoam - We Come Away Shocked

We gave the completely clogged carbs on the Suzuki a quick going through just to get the thing running, and that worked, but left us with a lean stumble and surge.
After treating 2 tank fills of gas and running about 200 miles, the stumble and surge is gone!
#misfire #carburetor #leancondition
Definitely worth taking a chance with it if you're ever in a similar situation.

I have used it many times. It will work on minor stuff, a little varnish, a tiny bit of water contamination, but it has limits. It will not take those carbs from how they were at the beginning to running fine. Your cleaning is what made the seafoam work.

Not true. I had a motor with a rod through the block and the piston bent the valves. It still ran though. Put two cans in the tank cause I knew it was bad and filled it up. Started it and went to work. When I got home it was out of gas but the oil leak stopped. Next day put 2 cans in the crank and did the same. When I got home it ran better then new. It even restored the plug wires.

I'm 49 years old now. Back in the day when I was 10 years old, my uncle was an aviation mechanic and he recommended using Sea foam on our dirtbikes; it actually worked wonders! The main thing was to actually get it circulating into the systems of any combustion motor including lawnmowers, and it would regulate a smoother idle! Take care uncle Tony, and enjoy!🌄👍

I can't believe you're just learning this. I've used this every time I have a carb that's completely clogged. I put about a quarter of it in the tank with a full tank of gas. I let it sit for about a day then I start it with starting fluid to get it to run for a little then let it sit for another day. Throughout the week I start it and run it each day. By the end of the week it runs like a brand new motor. And, that's without ever pulling and cleaning the carb. I love this shit!

I believe you're preclean helped it along immensely... it's a good cleaner, no doubt, but if those carbs need a rebuild, they just need a rebuild... just went through this with a Honda 4 wheeler... finally just pulled the carb & did a full rebuild, not one issue... I did run some Seafoam through it again after I rebuilt it, just for a little extra cleaning during the break in, but one of those jets was hopelessly clogged & wasn't having the Seafoam fix, so I just had to pull it... I am gonna start running some through my vehicles at least once a year though, because it does help when the issues aren't serious...

I haven't used Seafoam, but I used to use Gumout on my kid's dirt bikes (20 years ago). Fed it directly into the fuel line while the engine was running, it would run rough using 100% Gumout for fuel.... but after a few minutes all the passages on the inside of the carb would be cleaned out. Hook the fuel line back up to the petcock and it would be good to go.

Red Line Fuel cleaner actually has a tad more detergent. I had the same experience on a Suzuki DR200 that would barely start. Got it "running" and hobbled around the block three times to warm up the engine. Shutting down overnight let the heat soak into the carb which helps the detergent act on the "boogers." Next morning, ran like new.

That's exactly what it's for! Personally I use it all the time when I don't want to remove my throttlebody or intake manifold to clean 'em properly on modern fuel injected systems (it's a hassle). I think of it as a basic quality cleaning, it's better than nothing! I've compared it after taking off my throttle and I can see it works for cleaning, not magic fixes like people advertise and expect. Also I've never noticed a difference for it cleaning the inside of the cylinder. I prefer to use it through the air intake as direct injection doesn't care if you put it in the gas. I use it mainly on modern Cars with direct injection after an oil change or if I notice stumbling and I'm feeling lazy. If you suspect it's just carbon or varnish buildup due to modern gas, it's always worth trying this $8 fix before taking stuff apart.

I also proved t to myself by using it on a skid loader that wasn't running very good. It had a terrible idle and almost stalled. I had a 50,000 mile CB700SC that had heavy deposits on the intake valves causing low compression on a couple of cylinders. Fogged the intake until it stalled on a hot engine, let it cook for fifteen minutes or so and then ran it hard for some mosquito control. Repeat the process twice more and the compression numbers came back into spec. A lot of what is claimed by Seafoam is bull, but in this particular instance it actually worked really well.

A few tablespoons of STP gas treatement or Gumout fuel injector cleaner will work as well. Seafoam can be added to the oil as well. But caution, it can loosen an otherwise tight fitting PCV hose, and cause it to pop right off while you are driving, thus spraying oil all over your engine compartment.

i have added an entire can of seafoam to 10 litres of 91 octane fuel , and ran it through my old craftsman snowblower , with in 30 minutes of using the snowblower , the surging and hesitation stopped , i continuously used the mixture , the engine ran like a top , 2 cranks of the starter and the engine fired right up ,even after 6 to 7 months of summer storage , it is also a fuel stabilizer

In Germany we use two stroke oil (add 1% to the fuel) for cleaning and preventing corrosion in ICE engines.

I love this stuff. If a vehicle has been sitting for a month or two and is running a little rough I pour it in the gas tank and the problem is gone.

Italian tuneup: manually open the carb or throttle body (while running) and slowly pour the contents of one bottle of Sea Foam or B12 Chemtool into the intake. Cleans carbon from valves.

It works. I have seen Seafoam extend the life of more than one industrial engine when used as a crankcase additive (Caterpillar G398, G379). Frees sticking rings and valves. These were engines with 80k-100k hours. Hours, not miles. Takes a lot of Seafoam to treat a 50-gallon sump...

My dad has swore by sea foam for years. I also use it and have no complaints, though I’m skeptical of putting it in the crank case oil like it says you can do also. I run 91 octane non oxygenated with a dose of sea foam in all my 4 wheelers and dirt bikes and lawn mowers and all other small gas engines and I never have any problems with things starting after sitting for extended periods. I just pulled my garden tiller out of the shed after sitting for a year and it started on the second pull with last years gas even. I’m not a chemist just a poor country boy but it seems to me the stuff works 👍

I've owned multiple Suzuki GS's and belong to the GS resources fourm where many of the members swear by Seafoam. I believe in cleaning the carbs but I do use seafoam over the winter when I'm not riding. Cears for the video!

In 1967 my grandfather taught me to use Marvel Mystery Oil(MMO). We poured 1/2 of the pint can down the R1 on my Pontiac. I couldn't tell if it really ran better. Three years later I bought a 1964 Chevelle 300 2 door for $50, pulled the 6 cylinder engine and sold it for $25. I was given a 1963 Impala with a 283 but it didn't run. I replaced the timing chain and gears and found the cylinders to be very carboned up. I got the engine running and warmed up. I poured a pint of MMO down the R2 carb and shut it down. It smoked like a Uniroyal stack. I waited several days until it was raining and started the engine. I ran it a little above idle until it stopped smoking and then did a few revs. Pulled the car into the garage, pulled the heads, and found that the heads and piston tops were fairly clean. I overhauled the engine, put it in my Chevelle and had my G Stock drag racer for under $200. Over the years, I found that putting MMO in the gas of older cars tends to make the engines run better. I picked up an 89 Mini van with a weak compression cylinder. I tuned it and used it as my daily commuter. On construction site you really don't want to bring a nice vehicle. After 3 months on MMO in the gas with every fueling it was running better. At 6 months I did a compression check and all cylinders were good. I think that the MMO can get into the piston ring grooves and free up the rings that get stuck in carbon build up. I know that MMO helps prevent corrosion in small engine fuel systems but I'm not sure how much it helps automotive fuel systems. All of my engines are 20+ years old so, I use it in all of my gas. Its a wasted day if you don't learn something new. Good Luck, Rick

I've used seaform for everything. I had snowmobile that sat outside for 3 years. Injectors were clogged. Ran a clear tube on each injector and filled it with seafoam...set my compressor regulator to the fuel PSI, 9V battery to pulse the injectors open/closed and blasted seafoam through them at the same time. Ran like brand new after that.

I use it all the time as a preventive maintenance type deal on my small engines. I add a few ounce to a 5 gallon can everytime I fill it up. Ever since I started using it my small engine run like new. My 2 stroke leaf blower used to be a pain in the ass to start but after 1 or 2 fill ups of the treated gas they start with in 1 or 2 pulls. It used to take 10 or 15 trys before using seafoam. The aerosol cans work great also. I've used the aerosol cans on a few high mileage cars with great reault. I highly recommend it.

The best thing to do is vacuum some seafoam down a vacuum line. Techron does a better job of cleaning fuel systems. Techron is a high PEA cleaner, so you could use some other high PEA cleaner. Companies that specialize in racing engine make stuff just for carbs. It might outperform Seafoam or Berryman B12. After all, how many street driven carb engines are you going to encounter? It's a kind of specialty.

Over the years, I've bought 8 bikes that had been sitting for various lengths of time( several years on average). Buy a battery, drain old gas from tank (NOT the carbs) fill with fresh gas mixed with Berrymans B12 and 104+ octane booster. Crank until they start to run. Ride bike through 2 or more tanks of the same mixture. Results were that EVERY bike ran smooth, would idle and perform to expectations. Some were smaller twin cylinders some were 4 cylinders. All 4 stroke. The only one I pulled carbs on was a Suzuki GS450E to drill out the main jets. Inside was as good as new. NO further cleaning necessary. It had been sitting out behind someones house with a couple of small rugs on top of it for "weather protection". I wouldn't even change the plugs, just clean the tips with my plug cleaner. Sometimes I'd let it sit about 15 minutes between cranking, so as to not burn up starter.

Got a old tractor that had a cylinder down to 50 psi, thought it might be froze piston rings. So poured an once down s plug hole and bump it a couple times over the next couple hours. Tested it before I even started it and was up to76 psi, did it again. After the second time I was within 5 psi of the other cylinders. Its better fuel stabilizer than stable by a long ways.

I have used it for years , it's not a miracle worker but if your your fuel system is a bit sluggish yes . I put a cap or two in my tank every fill up ( honda vlx 600) . Runs like dream . Keeps it clean. Scotty says its bunk , and I know he is a very good mechanic. But I don't care it works.

I have a 67' mustang, Bought it 20 years ago and was a show winner. Gave it to a family member who helped me pay for an auto accident I had at the time. Car overheated and he parked it outside behind the garage for 11 years. Several years ago he called and told me come get it or it was going to the junk yard. Fixed the overheating issue (clogged radiator), new gas tank and a can of seafoam and it fired up and I could even drive it as is. I have a few short videos on my profile page of me getting the car running. I'm planning on a full drive through of it soon. I've been using that stuff for 20 years and can't say enough good about seafoam!

One of the few cleaners (solvents) on the market that actually works. I've used it just over 40yrs - tried others but came right back to it. My cars - both diesel and gas - see it in the fuel system 4 times a year, my pickup the same, w/one can per oil change to keep the AFM free - so far 200k on my AFM 5.3 LS Silverado. When I had the shop I bought it by the case, used it to 'de-glue' all manner of carbs from snowmobiles to early 1900s motorcycles. It made a good way to decarbon the Aluminum heads on the All-Pro & NASCAR truck engines before jet washing. Does exactly what it claims - a rare product these days.

My first bike was a 20 year old kawasaki 550 . Got from a friend. Spent cash on a shop cleaning the carbs but it still wasn't right. Kawasaki forum post suggested seafoam. And it work like a charm. Been using it since instead of Stabil over the winter and usually once a season . Works on Fuel injection too.

Been wrenching on motorcycles since I was a kid, worked in various shops throughout my years and will definitely tell you seafoam, Berrymanns and marvel mystery oil Do work in my experience provided the carbs are not in need of seals. I tell everyone who runs vintage bikes to put a couple ounces in every fill up and add marvel oil to the gas aswell as to the crank case.

Been using Sea Foam in my equipment, vehicles, and Harleys for decades. When you can't run the fuel system dry for storage add S/F and run the engine until you are sure that mixed fuel is in the system before storing.

A double strength dose of seafoam, techron, or lucas fuel system cleaner is standard practice for me after the bike has been sitting over the winter or similar situation. Obviously, the use of stabil or similar conditioner is a good idea when you know something will be sitting awhile, but sometimes that doesn't get done. My lawnmowers all get techron powersports continually, and they can sit all winter and fire right up, no surging or stumbles.

On carbureted stuff seafoam is great. I like to drain the floats and fill the bowl with it, start it, rev it WOT and then choke it until it stalls. Let it sit like that over night. Drain and refill with gas.

Carb cleaners work by soaking & dissolving obstructions/blockages. A good way to clean a carb is with sort drives & park overnight then repeat. This gives the cleaning agent time to soak & desolve any dirt/crud & short trip driving will flush out & replace the cleaning agent so the process can repeat.
