Why is this movie called "COCO"?? The name of the old lady who's cosplaying as a raisin and was in the movie for a total of 5 minutes? Nahhhh fam. This movie should be named after a long list of people before Coco...like the main character Miguel, or the great great great great great great great great great grandfather Hector, or the ball sack skin dog Sacko, or the giant prehistoric flying panther Pepita (imo a silly name for a murder cat, but whatever)...or even the grandmother who's only line in the movie stuck on repeat is "NO MUSIC". She means well, if you ignore the blatant bigotry towards musicians and her child labor shoe making sweat shop and her abusive destruction of her grandson's homemade guitar....you know what, lets not name the movie after her. Think of a better name in the comments down below (look at that, i get to be creative without even thinking of a new title myself and I get to take all the credit for your answers...thnx luv u)

Those "napkins" at the beginning of the movie are actually Papel Picado lol. They are just cut up paper that is hung up for decoration😌
@ladamadelarcoiris9554
@ladamadelarcoiris9554 Год назад
Okay some of the answers to your questions or doubts: Papel picado is a decoration made out of paper, it's not a napkin. Dante is a xolo dog, a mexican dog with a thousand years of existence and it has no hair and in mexica culture it's a guardian and guide to the souls in the underworld. The Orange bridge si maade out of petals. Cempasúchil is the name of the flower. It's one of the many things used in the ritual and symbolizes the warmth and color of the sun, it's a beacon. The pit of water comes from the Mayan culture an it's a *senote* a sinkhole full of water sometimes connected to an underground river. They believe senotes where doors to the underworld. Mama Coco or mamá it's a title too. Instead of calling her grandmother, great-grand mother it's just mamá. Symbolizes that she is your elder in a specific way and also makes it less impersonal, if that makes sense. It's like making them par of your core family, not just siblings and mom or dad. Oh and mom, o mamá without a name, it's for mother. La llorona, it's a legend and a song but not about the same. And that it's too long to punt here. And in lack of photos always go to the sources. Yes the bones. The sugar skulls are what conquistadores where comfortable with. But in some places they still do the original ritual.
@ZelinkSupporter
@ZelinkSupporter Год назад
In this scenario, the song La Llorona is actually based off of a tragic love story between a soldier and his wife. The soldier was drafted to war. They both knew he wasn't coming back and as a result, his wife was crying. The soldier gave his wife one last dance and he playfully called her "Llorona" as in "crybaby". The song is also a reference to the fact that Hector left with Ernesto and never came back

Hector didn’t leave against his will, he made the willing choice to leave. Even if he tried to come back after the fact, the damage is done. He demonstrated at that moment that he was willing to give up his family and responsibility at a whim. I think mama Imelda is valid on how she is feeling. At the end of the day, she had to raise coco alone.

@@jwhite-1471 But Imelda didn't know that. As far as she knew, he left and never came back. She didn't know he had died and didn't know he was trying to come home. Even in the afterlife, she likely didn't give him chance to speak to her - and he probably didn't try to speak to her, either, because of guilt. Even in the afterlife she wouldn't know he died that young, she probably thought he lived a long life away from his family. What Nick & Cory are forgetting here is that Hector didn't know he'd been poisoned. Hector thought he got food poisoning. So as far as Hector knew he left his family and died through bad luck and left Imelda to raise Coco alone.

When this movie came out I watched it with my Grandmother who had dementia but she remembered every word of remember me. She was a singer and I’m a singer so it was huge thing for us to able to bind over that. My uncle in law took his kids to see this movie to get them used to the idea of death because he had less that a year to live (he was in his 40s). It did help the younger kids get their heads around it. So this movie had a huge impact on my life and my families lives.

41:07 Pepita was Imelda's cat when Imelda was alive, in her true form she's the spirit guide representing Imelda - a mother, the provider of her family, the leader of the family, the one who holds everything together, strong and determined.

First of all, Hector himself did not know that he was murdered. He thought it was food poisoning. So he couldn't have told Imelda, if she had even given him any chance to talk-- which she didn't _"(How many times must I turn you away?"_ she asks). Secondly, yes he was trying to come back and he was killed, but he did choose to walk out the door in the first place. That hurt her deeply. That was what she could not forgive right away- even if he changed his mind afterwards.

I don't know if someone mention it yet, but the name of the movie was going to be "Día de los Muertos", but Disney wanted to have the rights of the holiday's name, so they had a pretty big scandal. Later, when the movie artists came to Mexico to investigate the country and the holiday, they realized a lot of grandmas are called Coco (nickname of Socorro... And I can verified it because it's my case also XD, by 2). And because she's an important character in this story, the one all of this revolved around, they decided to named the movie "Coco".

Aaaa I loved this video!!! As for some context over the dog cause it was kinda funny to see you confused about it: that dog breed is called “Xoloitzcuintle” and yup, it doesn’t have any hair. It’s believed in Mexican culture that xoloitzcuintle’s are the only animals who can go across worlds between the living and the dead and that’s why the dog was with Miguel all the time😄😄. Alsoo!! That Altar that Miguel had is normal in mexican culture for Day of the Dead. We normally set up altars for a bunch of people or only one person and we place items there that have to do with them, their favorite food, their favorite clothes or whatever, it’s fun.

We hear about it in Chile too - mostly in relation to the Mapuche people's lore where she's called La Pucullén and is visible to those close to death and will lure you to die/unalive yourself, so I knew the story growing up in the U.S. One night when I was a very young teenager, my mom and I were driving through a piece of our city with no streetlights and it was about 1AM and we saw the woman in white in the distance. I gasped, clutched my mom's arm, and begged her to run the woman over or we would die and omg...it was just some lady walking her dog in a white robe at 1AM. Still weird but glad we didn't run her over lmaooo I will never forget the fear that struck my heart.

Sometimes known as the Mexican Hairless dog, the Xoloitzcuintli, gets its name from two words in the language of the Aztecs: Xolotl, the god of lightning and death, and itzcuintli, dog. The raze is a 3,000-year-old, the ancient Aztec dog of the gods :) PS: I love how Nick Pronounced ¨Día de Los muertos¨ and Cory ¨La Policia!¨ pretty well!

Wow, when even the cold, dead heart of Cory is moved by Coco, you know you have a great movie. The biggest plot hole for me in this movie is that when Imelda died, why didn't Coco just remove all the music restrictions? She obviously liked music and loved her dad. She could have put him back in the ofreta and explained how he was a good dad and a musician. It seems weird that she would raise her daughter to be equally hateful of music. But I do love this movie, because it is just a beautiful film and does a great job of displaying Mexican culture.

My grandma is 91. She looks just like Coco, except she's totally healthy and functional. She most certainly will die after 100

You are NEVER meant to drink sake as a shot. You take sips to enjoy its flavour, if you take shots you just get drunk.

34:41 The song Llorona (the weeping woman) is a different storyline to the Mexican folk lore figure La Llorona (the weeping woman). Int he song someone is singing to a weeping woman saying that 'I'll never stop loving you', in the folklore she's a woman who murdered her children after her husband left her for a younger woman and now spends her time weeping and wailing by the river 'oh my children, where are my children', taking any child she might see in her search for her real ones
