There is some confusion at 0:40 and 1:00 between Wiser, and a Smart Meter, and then an incorrect description of what a Smart Meter is. Wiser is NOT a Smart Meter, it is a smart heating controller, whereas a Smart Meter measures how much gas and/or electricity you are using at any particular time. But I love your enthusiasm for this system and your tips.

Hmmm, I think maybe you had your old electricity/gas meters changed at some point to new Smart Meters supplied by your energy provider, but the meter doesn't actually control your heating system. For the benefit of other folk I'd like to set some things straight, otherwise some might think their smart meter will do all this! The Drayton Wiser Heat app on your phone (Android or Apple) is the thing used to setup and control your heating system (via the Wiser Hub which replaces any old central heating programmer and room stats to control your boiler and new thermostatic rad valves=TRVs). I'm sure you meant to say that "the Insights+ feature in the Drayton Wiser Heat app works with the energy usage data that it reads from your gas/electric smart meters to help you analyse where you are spending your money on energy, so you can impose tighter controls over the areas of your house that you heat through careful use of schedules and accurate control of temperatures in different rooms when controlled by the Drayton Wiser Room Stats and/or Wiser Radiator Thermostats (aka smart TRV's)". [BTW its a "meter" not a "metre" (length)]. When you mentioned using Smart Plugs it has to be the ones supplied by Drayton, not just any other make of smart plugs. Your washing machine uses electricity to heat the water, not your boiler, and its Eco mode takes longer because it uses a lower temperature, and less high speed spin cycles, so as its using less electricity. But the point you made is a good one! I wonder how many of those lovely old radiators are in your lovely home? Pity you can't use the Smart TRVs on them as they really are a key part of making the Wiser system save money, seeing as they come supplied with adaptors to fit them onto 90% of TRV bodies. Maybe you've been able to use some on any modern rads in your home? Because the key savings come from being able to use smart TRVs to control EVERY radiator in the house (plus there's another good technical reason why which I won't go into right now). Although granted there is an initial expense involved, but you can start with a few and add more as can afford. I reckon you could get a plumber to change the pipework slightly to fit TRVs to your old rads, although I agree I wouldn't want to spoil those gorgeous antique brass valves, nice job there by the way. Just a note on positioning of the Wiser Room Thermostat, we have a log burner and found that the Wiser Smart TRV on our living room radiator (being low down - heat rises) didn't detect the heat from the log burner until quite a while after it was lit, so the radiator would come on as well, wasting gas energy and overheating the room. This was remedied by adding the Wiser Room Thermostat (included in our kit) into the room at a higher level (on a shelf). This overrides the TRV to give a faster more accurate measurement of the temperature, which ensured the radiator would supply heat if the fire was not lit/cold room, but prevent it heating by closing the TRV if the room was already cozy. Anyway enough of my old geezer ramblings, lol. As you've guessed by now I've got the Wiser system too and I've been extolling its virtues to friends and family as well. Actually Jess you're doing fine, don't change anything on my account, I get it :o) Like Paul below I also love your enthusiasm and excitement, even if a little muddled, because Wiser is one of the better smart heating systems available, more reliable and cheaper than most of them, and also often easier for confident DIY folk to install themselves. It is after all - a bit like magic! Best wishes to you, your fella and your awesome dawg. Jim

Sorry Jess you lost me at paid partnership. I think you meant smart thermostat, not smart meter. A smart meter is a screen simply giving you your current, daily and weekly usage - not controlling the temperature from an app. You have a beautiful home and I look forward to future videos hopefully without reviewing a paid sponsor.

Very interesting, thanks Jess. Going to explore this. We are also having an eco stove installed in our fireplace to back up in case we have electricity cuts this winter.
