I would seriously consider fitting One Rowlock in the outboard bar on the stern. Get one long sculling oar. You could then tow the "butty", moor it while the big boat goes through the lock, and then reset the lock, and "scull" the little boat into the lock. Sculling is a simple process moving the oar side to side whilst twisting it to propel the boat at the same time. This could be easier than carrying a small outboard and mounting it each time. Cheaper than an outboard, and no need to carry petrol. You might also need a rudder (which YOU could make) or a chain being dragging in the water, to keep the boat straight whilst towing, but that can be pulled out to scull the boat. You need to test the little boat FIRST, no rudder, or anything else, see how it tows! Set the new boat up in stages to make sure the method of "propulsion" is both ideal and of course, economical. I would avoid an outboard, with mountings (raising and lowering) that will be pricey! Good luck with the project.
Well, with your teaser that you last posted, I was thinking, " a little one" - but I was NOT thinking "little boat"! Congratulations! I'm sure Benny and you will make this little one a beauty to be proud of!
You had us all fooled, I never thought about another boat but it’s a great idea, I can’t wait to see the progress unfold. You guys are great and Alan too, he’s the coolest cat, she didn’t like the flute playing, her face shows all her emotions, she was almost frowning. You dad’s food looks amazing!!!xxxx
… at least my favorite british canal boat channel - discovered only recently . I am living how massively talented Emily & Benny are and how they take everything in stride with good humor and creativity ❤❤❤🎉
A great use of your woodworking skills Benny. What an amazing project! Ideal spot for creating music & beans! ❤️ What will you name your boat of creation? Bingo beans!! 😂 can’t wait for Alan to see it. I think Alan will decide it’s just their boat & want to name it Alan’s Throne! 😂
Don't worry about people wanting to tune out if your content varies. I think I can safely say that unlike some other channels, your viewers just love you guys and want to go along for as much of your journey as you're comfortable sharing. I personally think the new project/expansion boat is awesome and I'd like to see it come together. The difference here (with your channel) is the new boat isn't an effort to create content, it's genuinely just part of your life as it moves forward.
Yes, this is my absolutely favourite narrowboat couple channel. There are other channels with more viewers that I find kind of staged. Emily and Benny are just so natural and living a genuine creative life. It’s inspiring how resourceful they both are. I wouldn’t normally be into DIY, but I actually would be interested to see elements of Benny doing up the new boat. As long as Alan still gets a look in 😅.
First time seeing your channel, and its quite ironic is about one of my top Five ideas to do once a win the lottery and retire part time on the CRT … Buy one narrow boat… and a second smaller one. Dream build a fully diesel electric 50ish ft boat. Diesel electric are diesel generators electric motors … Second boat would be a powered butty with a V notched stern that could be strapped up front… tied alongside, towed behind or even self propelled. Powered butty would have an easily accessible battery bank , could also attach to shore power, or umbilical to main boat. Main boat would also have a charging bank where depleted batteries from the butty would be hooked up for independent charging
Jethro Tull vibes in this one! I’m in the midst of converting a school bus into a housebus - so I know the feeling well of being excited about the project but not quite knowing about the logistics and occasionally wondering if you’ve lost your mind…
Well, well, well...many people thought there was going to be an addition to your family! I guess, in some way, they were right! All the best to you all for this new project. xx
A project worth looking forward to completing. Now family, guest, and ( I have a mum-in-law house in the back of my house) any other use you can think of! Good show!
Hello Ben Emily Alan and your chef LOL, Hope you are all well and coping with this heatwave , What a Great cute little Baby Boat , i love it , such a Great idea , And How exciting your going to renovate your New Baby , Im Looking forward to that , well Thank you for sharing your news , Take care All , 🐈⬛🛥 X X
Congratulations you two! I am excited for you! Benny might this be a great studio for your music, and Emily, a little workshop for your cute little veggies?
You are expanding the fleet! Can’t wait until Cantabelle (sp?) and Roisin Dubh meet for the first time! Will Roisin accept Cantabelle as part of the family? 😂
Hi guys, great little project. Please bare in mind if you intend to use her as a butty you will need a rudder and a bigger one than a powered boat. A outboard will give you no steering when it's not running. Don't want you to black the hull then have to grind it off to weld on rudder / tiller mech. You can tow her on very short ropes in a cross formation but it's not practical everywhere. Good luck. Regards Brad.
The look on Dave's face @5:02 'You've bought me a home.' Priceless! I love the wee boat and all the reasons why you bought her, even if it was just because she's cute. Cheers
What a cute little boat! Canterbury Bell? Adorable name if you keep it. Hmmm, I say paint her baby blue! Because she's a little baby boat named after a flower already, makes sense and it would be so pretty. 🥰
THATS AWESOME!!!! THE HULL IS DONE, THE INSIDE IS READY TO BUILD, AND AN OUTBOARD, EASY, AND YOU CAN TAKE YUR TIME... HOW FUN. ENJOY THE NEW ADVENTURE!! GOD BLESS.😋😋👍👍
How exciting for you two! Honestly you guys COULD make a video of you two taking a piece of wood off the wall for 25 minutes and it would probably be pretty entertaining! 😆 Dave's meals look so good - but I didn't catch what the patatas bravas were made of instead of potatoes?
Never mind! When Dave said "looks the same as a potato" I thought he meant that it was swede or something like that, but I rewatched it and I get it now. Pretty sure I have MASHED potatoes for brains! 😩
Love all your enthusiasm for the little boat! It's contagious!! Your Dad is a star Emily, cooking lovely food for you in the van or on your boat!! Looking forward to seeing your boaty adventures!!
It always rains in Wales!! - we had ten caravan holidays on the bounce in and around Wales and every year suffered days of rain, and when it rains in Wales it really pours down!! You get absolutely soaked. But the beautiful scenery just keeps on drawing you back. 😊
This is such an incredible suprise! So excited that you have got another boat. I've been looking at Wilderness Boats recently. UK based and they sell the vintage mini boats. So lovely. Have lots of fun doing it up and can't wait to see the adventure. Benny, have you ever considered a YT channel of your music? ❤
@@BenandEmilyYeah 24ft! 😁 about the same internal space as mine has an inboard engine. I accepted Benny’s request to a certain tiny boat group so I thought I might see something like this soon! So excited for you both, I’ve got a real soft spot for smaller Narrowboats.
Must agree with other comments, your channel is the best out there! Thank you so much for giving us great entertainment and we are looking forward to seeing how the new boat progresses 😊
Today, you have literally taken me back to my hippy days in 1971!! I am not sure if the new small boat is to replace the bigger boat but if it is, I do not think it is a good idea.....
Best of luck with your new project and should you need any advice (I doubt you will) that boat yard is where Nanny & Grandad (From RU-vid) are building their narrowboat. They are both very talented and i'm sure they will help if you ever get stuck. Good luck and thanks for sharing this with us.
