In the last episode I've introduced my new motorcycle, a 1987 Yamaha Tenere. This motorcycle is the same age as me! Although... this bike is far from the original version by now. In this video, Moritz will show you the ins and outs of this incredible and unique motorcycle.

Thank you all for the awesome name suggestions! ❤️ I’ve picked a winner 🤩 This name was suggested by several of you and I loved it instantly. Since my 1987 Tenere turned out to be a little Frankenstein (watch this episode 😜), her name is FRANKIE 😍 So here we go, Frankie and I will be conquering the world together 💪🔥

But he has a shop and he builds and fixes stuff So he must know something Don't be jealous You should see what I have I have 12 garages on my property and a machine shop full of tooling to build and create and fix anything and I made a air hardened tool steel basket for a clutch on my kh400 Kawasaki that almost took my life because I ran a red light back in 8-2- 1982 and I went to impound it took a hammer to it and took out my clutch basket and I have it sitting right by my milling machine So again don't be jealous if people are smarter than you God bless

I can't tell you how happy I am to see you back with us. You become a part of my life now. I am a former Rally driver (I am over 70 now) and have never been on motorcycles, because I was always rotten on bicycles and therefore assumed that motorbike is a death trap for me. However, watching you handling motorbikes and thoroughly enjoying them makes me feel that I missed something important in my life. That is the reason why I enjoyed so much in every one of your adventures which I watched two times and some of the episodes even more. One of the brilliant features of 'Itchy Boots Production' is, that you by now have become a professional-standard video producer. The framing during this interview is exactly like a professional video- or film photographer would do it. The mechanical ingeneer is in focus just when needed, the bike parts are in focus just when needed, and the shift is nice and easy. Close-ups and totals vary just as needed. Noraly i don't think you have picked a better or more knowledgeable person than Moritz, he is safe to say the Guru of old Yamaha Tenere motorcycles of all of Europe, this is his passion and lives work, even old engineers from Yamaha do not have his knowledge, he has built redundancy into your bike for all the right reasons, reliability and simplicity of service , the low rpm lugging power for bottom end torque reminds of friends back in the early 70's that raced dirt bikes like this and they were easy to fix in minutes lots of the time or maybe breakout the tool kit and muck around with it a bit and we always got home, that transmission he built a big win for you, this man knows his stuff, too bad your getting rid of that OG fuel tank, I hope the one that you are having painted is the same capacity of 22 litres and is only gravity fed and no fuel pump required another big win for you, the new bag system from Mosko looks almost military designed with the molly panels on the outside of the bags is a bonus to attach gear to , a co worker of mine has a 2 year old Tenere' and really enjoys, his girlfriend is a subscriber to your channel to and rides a bike also like you , Frankie is an awesome name for your bike, I look forward to next episode 👍

Also the way he explains why thye have chosen those chainrings, forks, brakes etc. is just phenomenal...And the many parts they have on stock in that little garage is again amazing, they have everything to fix a bike, with complete engine, and when climbing up to the 1st floor it was just amazing to see more parts. I sure hope that Moritz gives you a complete breakdown of which parts he has used and the years they came from Noraly! Otherwise, it will be difficult for you to find the proper parts during your travels, but then again, he will be a simple text or phone call away. Moritz is a gem of a guy who has specialized upon one particular model of bike that is rare to find anymore. Also keep in mind that a lot of these parts are no longer available to purchase new from the manufacture today, thus the reason he has such a stock stashed inside his shop. I absolutely love that he doubled up on the CDI, Regulator and such. He is surely looking out for you! I am fully on board with the reasoning behind the build and know without a doubt that this is built to last. It just may have you waiting on parts from him to ship to you wherever that it may be that you encounter a mechanical breakdown. And one other thing that I would like to mention to you if it isn't too late, please get a Did 520 ERV chain to put on your bike. It has the highest tensile strength on the market and will not stretch as quickly as other chains, thus giving you longer service intervals for your drivetrain (countershaft sprocket, rear wheel sprocket and chain). Also carry a few spare master links and sections of chain should you need to make a repair. This is a necessity for whatever manufacture of chain you happen to utilize. Every manufacturer of chain has different specs individual to each chain. I share the aforementioned as someone who once was involved within the motorcycle community but left due to an injury. I also would like to thank you for all that you do to bring the world to those unable to venture out like you do. You truly have made me miss my travlin' but I am grateful for yours! Thank you Noraly. Lil' Joe a recovering paraplegic

I was just beaming all the way through this episode. What a great shop and what an ingenious bike engineer you have found! I recently rode a new, mid-sized ADV from California to Tuktoyaktuk and back (7,500 miles) and, true to form, the only failure was indeed the side stand safety switch which caught a flying rock and had to be bypassed (hot wired). Simple and lightweight is definitely the way to go, and it’s great to see how much fun you are having and that your health has returned 😊

I just have to ask a question why does anyone need a safety switch on a side stand when you get on the bike don’t you just automatically flip the stand with your foot?

Way back in 1969, after college, spent a summer in Europe on a 250 Honda Super Hawk. From London to the Med. From the Alps to the North Sea. Thousands of miles of fun in the time of Europe on Five Dollars a Day. Before the Euro. God I wish I’d kept that bike🏍️

I had a 1965 Triumph Tiger 500 many years ago that too didn't have to have the battery to enable it to start on the kickstart. You turned the ignition switch on the side panel to a second position, kick it over to start and then flip the switch back to the regular position. Marvellous. If I was to entrust someone to prepare my bike it would be this guy.

I'm sure you have already thought of this. Having the year make and model of every non standard part with you. And a diagram and explanation of Frankie's custom electrical system. "Just in case". Happy new adventure!!! Can't wait.

Exactly, I have added a comment but it will be probably deleted soon (if not already): they built almost completly custom bike, for a girl who almost completly doesn't have knowledge about mechanics and electrics, for a around-the-world travel. In case there is something to fix, a local mechanic at the end of the world won't even be able to follow the service manual because nothing will match current state of the bike. Brilliant!

When i was 17 I had a DT250 which was a 2 stroke version that Yamaha produced and always fancied getting the XT500 from around 1975 onwards. I sold my RD350LC to go back packing around Europe when I was 21, fast forward 37 years and my next bike was a CRF250Rally, I wanted the Tenere T7 (XT700) but when I sat on it I could barely touch the tips of my toes on the floor (at 5’6” I am too short). All that said the XT has a permanent place in my heart and this guy is the XT guru, with a workshop that is heaven made.

I really love how you chose this old bike as your new travel companion. Showing people that you can have an adventure whatever bike you choose. It doesn’t have to be the newest and fanciest model. I hope you have tons of fun with Yamaha! Also this workshop is so cute! ❤

I have a 1981 XT 500 since 25 years. Super bike. I rode from Italy to Holland last year, and had a lot of rain. The upgrade to 12V worked great and I had no problems at all in the rain. Suspensions are YSS in the rear, stock in front. What a wonderful ride. I actually prefer this to the 2005 GS I also have. Brakes ... well, one has to take care. No electronics. And yes, the electrical system is genius. No battery needed to start and ride the bike.

A one of a kind extraordinary bike for a one of a kind extraordinary rider. Serious respect and admiration for the builders. It's obvious they care as much for Noraly's safety as they do for her success. I'm guessing I'm not the only one who feels better just knowing such thought and consideration went into her safe passage before the next journey has even begun.
