We've gone treeless! (& a mission to find a short girth) / Equestrian VLOG

After several months of back and forth trying to decide what to do about Woody's saddle, I finally made an impulse decision and got him an Easytrek treeless saddle and OMG it's amazing!!! I am genuinely blown away by the amount of freedom it offered him, that trot was just magical 💕
Woody has always been a problem for saddle fitting because he changes shape so often and so dramatically it's hard to keep up. I usually manage it with pads and we do a seasonal saddle swap when he bulks up in the summer, but this year in particular I have noticed that nothing I do puts either of his saddles in the right place for him. About two weeks ago it got to the point that neither of saddles we have for him were useable (yes, he really changes that much that fast ... I blame all the hillwork we have been doing lately!) and having still not heard back from any of the numerous saddle fitters I have contacted I decided to take a chance on a treeless saddle. (TBH, they probably read the description I sent of him and what I was looking for and thought 'hell no!' 😂) . But anyway, things turned out pretty good and I'm very happy with our purchase. Hopefully this will be an end to our constant saddle battle!
Also, I have never ridden in a mono-flap saddle before and got very confused when I tried to adjust my girth after getting on 🤣🤣🤣 Also I clearly have no idea how to measure for a short girth ... An excellent example of how not to equestrian!!

This is so helpful! I'm a US rider who has been eyeing the Easytrek for a couple of years now, but I don't think they're all that common on this side of the pond, and I sure haven't seen anyone give a ridden review. I'm keen to get my hands on one for my growing Arab.

They don't seem overly common over here either tbh, I only know one other person who has used this saddle and I've struggled to find people online or in groups to talk to either! The 'Barefoot' and 'Close contact' brands seem to be the most common and most frequently discussed. But the saddle is absolutely fantastic, ... I'll have to do another review soon as I've been riding in it for a few months now.

I love your new saddle, Woody definitely loves it too. I bought a total contact saddle last year and it was a game changer for my cob, opened her up more and she was a different pony. Although, I had to have a lot of salt baths for a while 😂😂 There are a lot of second hand pages on Facebook that are for treeless saddle pads, might be worth a look. I have heard that talcum podwer can help with squeaks 😁 xx

Salt baths ....yes I can see that. They really let you appreciate the full width of your horse in a whole new way 🤣🤣 how long did it take you to get used to it? Yes good call, I will definitely have to poke around some second hand places ❤️

@@raversmead It has taken me a few months and trying different style saddle pads to get one that suits both of us. I found inspiration from Facebook groups with peoples different set ups. You certainly use different muscels, but the contact you have is amazing. You can feel them tense up before a spook, but on the flip side they can sense when you get anxious 😂 Good luck! I think you are both going to have so much fun xx

It's a very different feel to a traditional treed saddle. In a good way though ... I just need to adjust to it 😂 be interesting to see how he schools in it (if the ground ever dries up)

It's a game changer getting a saddle your both comfy in. I don't like the new saddle /girth set ups, I like to adjust after been on 5 mins, think I'd fall off reaching down there 😂

Saddle looks fab! Glad you and Woody liked it!!! I wanted to get a treeless saddle as I have wonky hips, but was advised not to.
@raversmead
@raversmead 4 месяца назад
Seek further advice and do more research. Were you advised not to because of your hips or for other reasons? Also, a few stretches here and there can do wonders for wonky hips, I'm a bit off myself from when Woody threw me through a fence many years ago 🤣

@@raversmead it was a a while ago, I do remember people suggesting a western or a dressage saddle instead, I've got a GP and a dressage saddle, and managed okay with them. I had hip dysplasia (sp?) When I was a kid, and occasionally one or the other would 'pop' when I was in my teens, but it seems to have settled a lot as I've gotten older, and my muscles built up from years of doing Jane Fonda aerobics videos 😂 The saddle you got looks a lot different to the ones I saw years ago, they were more like a leather coated numnah!
@raversmead
@raversmead 4 месяца назад
@@Siobhan_Shivaun oh that's not fun ... I can just imagine the thrill of a hip popping while out riding 😬 hmm yeah I think the older style ones are the ones people get twitchy about, they were basically what you described, more like a pad. The decent ones are built like an actual saddle, except it's all flexible. Absolutely genius concept and I must say I'm sold on it!

@raversmead you'd have a better chance in the UK but you often have to buy new and they are very expensive.
